OMG! You did have inflation....

Hi
I'm back from the States (Miami), short vacations. First time in a long time I stay for vacations (recently I went just for training or doing scales,), so I rented a car, stayed at hotels, did some shopping, etc.

So now I did realized there has been a big inflation. First of all gasoline!!! YEEK!!!!
I realized also about books, calendars and all that stuff you find at bookstores. Not sure about food, I felt it was almost the same prices.

And liquor!!!!! I remember when Vodka Absoult was (1 lt) $13 or $15, not it's around $20!!!!

Now I miss the 90s!!!

amber 09-30-2004 06:46 PM

Yep! Hope you had a good vacation anyways - Miami, you lucky dog! But yeah, sorry about that! :wavey:

Well...

as of this moment the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded is $1.89...It is expected to climb to easily over $2.00 within the next 2 weeks.

Thank GOD I live in the state with the lowest gasoline prices in the US: $1.73-$1.83 a gallon.

You guys don't know the meaning of expensive petrol until you live in the UK!

Vianna 10-01-2004 06:25 AM

gasoline..

Villavic, the gas prices have risen sharply since last winter I guess.

I am paying around $2.00 per gallon here in DC. I have to wonder who is fleecing their pockets on this.

With oil at $50 a barrel, the Saudi's are

Seriously, do not expect the price to come down anytime soon, even if oil drops to $30 a barrell. Notice how the prices never really come down   Still, $2.00 a gallon is not bad when compared to the rest of the world and that price point equates to about $30 a month more than what was the norm for the last decade or so. For example and on average (some will have more some will have less depending on how much they drive and what they drive), three tanks a month at 20 gallons per tank is 60 gallons, which at $2 a gallon is $120 - at $1.50 a gallon it is $90) - for some, which I submit is few - that is a HUGE stretch on their budget, esp. if they drive for a living, etc. To most, however, that is not. The oil companies know this. Thus, the prices are sticky downward.

NOTE: I am not condoning this - I am just speculating as to the reason, etc. Also, I get that $30 a month is alot of monry to alot of people. I am just saying on average, it is not or at least it is not to the point that it cannot be "found" by saving in other areas. But, yes, for the truly poor that have a car or are effected in other ways by high fuel costs (power, bus fare, etc.) - that need to make every dollar count, it sucks and I hate it.

And I had to tax my car today. £91 for 6 months ( that's around $164) Livia tells me you guys call that registration. I can never afford to do a whole year of car tax

Yeah, i used to look forward to registration with dread. Although, i don't think we can pay it in increments, we have to do it all at once...But i think our registration for a whole year was around the same price as your six months. And of course, if you don't get it, you may be paying for tickets, too.

I am procrastinating registering my car in NY. I'm not happy because when I registered my car in NM - I paid for two years....so I am basically throwing 30 bucks out the window (it was cheaper to do two years than one). It sucks- and then I have to pay for an emissions test, registration and a new licesnce...such a pain...and on public radio's salary let just say I'm not raking in the dough over here....plus I''m till trying to catch up with myself after the move (which was quite expensive...). So yeah - Im not liking the high price of gas and such...

Ludicrous! I pay about $50 for 2 years registration in NY.

Gas around here has been ranging from $1.91 - $2.00 for months. Thanks goodness I got a job close to home - boyfriend is spending $40-$50 every WEEK on gas, mainly since his work is farther away.

Wished...

we didnt have to drive 80 miles round-trip for work (ie-Non jobs in this area, unless ya count those DAMNED 1,000,000 Wal-Mart jobs Shrub 'helped' to create!), It may change for me though very soon...A Dollar General is opening here and I plan to apply for Assistant Manager (Hell, I wasted all the money to go to college and yet I seem best suited for retail) and it is only a 10 minute walk from home.

Btw, When Deb was doing Radiation treatments in 'the City' (aka OKC for us Ok-li-Homans) we were spending , on average, $15 a day for gas for each day she went for the treatments (Which took 30 daily treatments to complete & a daily 200 mile roundtrip!), Thank God gas was $1.50-$1.60 a gallon while this occurred!

Hey strangey - I don't mean this in any bad way, but, why do you still live in OK? I mean, just curious because you put it down a lot, and you seem to have a lot of skills and education - you could probably get a high paying job here in nothing flat! And i'm not sure about the whole landscape and all, but i've heard it's flat and dusty  So, what's the real deal? family and friends and all that? Of course, you don't have to tell me, I was just really curious...
