Professionally recording concerts -- popularity of fad growing
 

Has anyone seen the thread about concert soundboards over at Neil's forum (FleetwoodMac-UK.com)?

Kind of a shame that FLEETWOOD MAC isn't listed!!

I don't think FM would EVER do anything like that. I can just imagine Stevie fretting about missing a note and having it immortalized (not that that hasn't stopped us :laugh: ), or Lindsey fudging up on his guitar or mumbling the lyrics too much. He wouldn't be able to repeat the same line over and over and over and over in the studio. ;)

We already have Live In Boston! Plus, they do the same set every night, so there'd be no reason to buy more than one anyways.

I think this type of thing is just growing in popularity as groups see that there IS a market out there for selling their live recordings - and the cost of delivery dwindles.... I know Metallica has a website you can go to... and although I'm not a Metallica fan - I found it really cool that you could by each and every show of their tour if you wanted to - and only a few days after each show, they were available... It's by download either mp3 or the lossless formats like flac or shn...

Whether Fleetwood Mac would do something like this, who knows... But I would hope that in the future some of the shows would be available. I'd buy some!!

I went to the Peter Gabriel concert on 1st June 2004 in Birmingham, UK. I ordered that very gig from this site and it arrived about 10 days ago.

The quality is excellent and the CDs and packaging are great. Its a double album and direct from the soundboard with the first and last tracks faded in/out.

If only Fleetwood Mac did something like this it would be awesome. All the gigs are soundboard recorded anyway so they might as well use them for financial gain and please us at the same time.

Unless of course they are worried about hitting the odd bum note and don't want it released..

I'm sure Peter Gabriel isn't bothered by such trivial things.

Even Jimmy Buffett has his shows out on CD. I saw this just last week at a local music store. I was there thinking why can't the Mac do the same thing. I also checked the set list for Jimmy Buffett and the shows had the same set list. I guess that if he has a market for them the Mac could have one as well.

We know that all of the shows are filmed too. Now that would be awesome to have a DVD of a show that you have gone to. Wishful thinking.

I know... It killed me to read Cory's diary's where she said they were watching the show from that night on the bus to the next city!!!

CENTURIES (!!!!) Fleetwood Mac will finally realize that alot of fans would be willing to part with their $$$$ for a keepsake professional recording of the show they have attended.

Barenaked Ladies is another group that makes its shows available. I bought a download of a BNL show I saw earlier this year. The quality of the recording was awesome. They give an option of downloading the tracks as mp3 files and artwork so you can make labels and inserts or you can order CDs for a couple of dollars more. I hope that more artists will start doing this - it's great getting a high quality recording of the actual show you attended.

I also saw Peter Gabriel at Birmingham in June as well as in Newcastle. I bought the Encore CD's for both concerts and already have 2 Encore CD's from the previous US tour. I love the fact that you can get a professional recording of a concert you've been too and happily paid the $25 for each double CD set.

Like you said the sound quality for all the concerts is excellent. Another good thing is that PG varies his sets so it is worth getting at least a couple of concerts to get all the songs. It's also nice to hear that PG doesn't seem bothered that he's being recorded. At the 5 FM concerts I went to last year Stevie and lindsey always said the same things between songs. PG sort of says the same things but does vary them a bit and even messes them up. In the Newcastle concert he gets the intro to Red Rain wrong and admits that he has f***ed up. Later in the concert during the band intros he pauses to tie up his shoe lace which he describes in full detail.

It would be great if FM would release recordings of all their concerts. I can't believe it is expensive to do and would be a real money spinner.

I think $25 is too much. Total production cost on both discs couldn't be more than a buck! Money whores. JMO :p

There would be plenty of reason..the very reason many of us fans download bootlegs for all these shows, even though the set list is the same...I would buy it...people like to buy the show that they ATTENDED themselves, as well....plus Live in Boston is good...but there's a good bit of overdub and polish work, many ppl like it real..
