Has Anyone Ever Written Anything...

For Stevie?

and if so, by whom? Since Stevie's written so many songs about people (famous or not) I'm wondering: what songs out there are about, or dedicated to her? I can't think of one, oh, and Lindsey doesn't count!

Will you settle for one about Stevie and Lindsey?

During one of The Penguin's Q&A's, Gary "Hoppy" Hodges suggested that one of Don Henley's songs (Life In The Fast Lane) was written about Stevie and Lindsey. That was quite a surprise. I don't think he would have offered up that info unless he was fairly certain of it. Too bad we can't ask Don about it! He was certainly outspoken about Stevie in the past.

There is some debate on this, but the Brian Wilson song "Stevie" is supposed to be about our beloved Stevie or Stevie Wonder. Here is a site where you can listen to the outtake.

I've heard that too but it doesn't make much sense to me, especially the parts that are supposed to be about Lindsey, "he had a nasty reputation as a cruel dude, said he was ruthless said he was crude"...that doesn't sound like Lindsey at all! Or, "they had one thing in common, they were dirty and bad" I mean, does this sound like them at all?

If you really listen to the lyrics, yes, it sounds like them completely. And it's "they had one thing in common, they were good in bed" ;)

actuallyI always thought Life in The Fast Lane sounded more like Stevie and DON but I guess the timing is off.

Of course there is the lovely ballad..... Stevie Nicks Sit on My Face, by the Rotters
But seriously folks......

Here are the lyrics to Life in the Fast Lane. I don't know when this song was written but it sure fits!!!!

He was a hard-headed man, he was brutally handsome
And she was terminally pretty
She held him up and he held her for ransom
In the heart of the cold, cold city
He had a nasty reputation as a cruel dude
They said he was ruthless said he was crude
They had one thing in common, they were good in bed
She said, "Faster, faster, the lights are turnin' red"

Life in the fast lane
Surely make you lose your mind
Life in the fast lane

Are you with me so far

Eager for action, hot for the game
The coming attraction, the drop of the name
They knew all the right people, they took all the right pills
They threw outrageous parties, they paid heavenly bills
There were lines on the mirror, lines on her face
She pretended not to notice she was caught up in the race
Out every evening until it was light
He was too tired to make it, she was too tired to fight about it

Life in the fast lane
Surely make you lose your mind
Life in the fast lane
Life in the fast lane
Everything all the time
Life in the fast lane

Blowing and burnin', blinded by thirst
They didn't see the stop sign, took a turn for the worst
She said, "Listen baby, you can hear the engine ring
We've been up and down this highway, haven't seen a goddamn thing"
He said, "Call the doctor, I think I'm gonna crash"
"The doctor say he's coming but you gotta pay in cash"
They went rushing down that freeway, messed around and got lost
They didn't care they were just dying to get off, and it was

Life in the fast lane
Surely make you lose your mind
Life in the fast lane
Life in the fast lane
Everything all the time
Life in the fast lane

Life in the fast lane
Life in the fast lane

Wow, I really had it wrong all these years!!

Which makes me wonder, how would Henley know that Lindsey is good in bed?

I think there's a quote out there from one of her former boyfriends (can't remember if it was Henley..I don't think it was) that Stevie had a habit of comparing her relationships to the one she had with Lindsey. Of course, even thought they "broke up" or were "dating other people," my spidey sense tells me that the physical relationship probably didn't end right away. They were familiar with one another so hey...they kept going back to one another. Of course, I could be totally wrong

Not at all. The song was recorded & released in 1976, which is the year Stevie & Don dated.

Personally, I don't see much connection between those lyrics & Stevie or Lindsey. Thematically, it's sort of a precursor to Lindsey's Mary Lee Jones.

Oh, I thought maybe it was from personal experience. Kidding of course...
