Star Struck Again!

I don't know if any of you on here know this but I'm a big fan of the old musicals, particularly Judy Garlands. Through my admiration of Judy I have come to admire her daughter Lorna who isn't as well known as Liza but is amazing. I went to see her in London today in her West End show 'Songs My Mother Taught Me'. It was fantastic. And I got to meet her after the show! I knew from her website that she meets with people at the backstage door but wasn't sure if that would happen here. We went round there all the same and sure enough she came out... in her dressing gown and slippers! She is so down to earth! And so nice! We were told she was feeling ill and wouldn't talk much yet she still came out. So I got her to sign my program and had a picture with her and them walked away with Mike as others were waiting. Well I had this urge to go back and I took a few more pictures and when she had signed the last thing I went up to talk to her. On her website she has a 'lorna Uncensored' thing.. like the extinct 'ask Stevie' and a few times I had submitted questions and she had answered them and obviously become familiar with some of the names. So I went up to her and said' I just wanted to come back and thank you as many times on your website I have asked when you will be coming over here. I wanted to thank you for coming' And then I said ' My names Pip' And she had this look of recognition on her face and said 'Oh Pip!' and she turned to this guys (floppy hair, to her right in picture 4) and said 'Shane this is Pip'.. and turned to me and said..'This is Shane' (he runs the website so I was totally familiar with the name) And he recognised my name too! LOL! It was an unreal moment for me! I thanked her again and said the show was wonderful and she said 'You're welcome sweetheart' and I told her I was coming again in August and would remember tissues next time as some parts of the show had made me cry! Then she gave me a hug and I left! I can't believe I didn't take her a gift or a card so I will plan something for next time. Apparently she comes out to see fans after every show..even if it's raining. Someone held up a program and pen at the end of the show and she mouthed 'stage door' ... I was nervous and excited at the thought of meeting her but when I did she seemed so normal, so down to earth. I admire her in her own right but then a small part of me was thinking , Holy ****.. this is Judy Garlands daughter! LOL! It's amazing to look at how Liza has turned out and then to look at Lorna. There is no way Liza would have come out and mingled like this. It was great! I'm still smiling!

That's wonderful Pip, I'm so happy for you. I saw her on TV a few weeks ago cause they were playing a show called hundred greatest movie songs or something, and of course Judy was all over it (including number one, Over the Rainbow, of course!) and Lorna was the one talking a lot about her mom. She seemed nice, and very reverent of her mom. Not to be rude, but she may be different than Liza cause: She's not as big a star. She's not as pretty. Her dad wasn't a famous director. She is a younger child and may have been raised better because of it. :D She sounds great and I wish more stars were like that. Although they may be in danger if they were, I dunno.

I agree with you aout her not being such a big star but not about the pretty part...lol. I don't think she was raised better necessarily.. you should read her book. But she certainly is more grounded which is refreshing for someone in the public eye

That is so cool, Pip. I loved Judy Garland, her old movies, especially the Wizard of Oz. That's great that you got to meet her daughter.

Lee :)

Congratulations! :blob2:

Sadly, the only exposure to Lorna Luft I have was seeing her as Paulette in "Grease 2." How sad is that?!?!

The pics were great. Thanks for sharing your story!

If you loved Judy then I would recommend you try to see Lorna's show. It is a touching tribute to her mother
