QUEEN questions

1. Were you a QUEEN fan? Do you like them at least?
2. If so, did you also liked their post-1981 (post GH vol1) songs?

I was a Queen fan, I truly liked them. Of course Bohemian Rhapsdoy is a beautiful, as Spread your Wings, Love of my Life, Prophet song, We are the Champions, and Mustapha are, too, among others.

But after they released Great Hits in 1981, they tried the funky/synthethyzers/wave style, maybe inspired in the "Another one bites the dust" success.

But the Hot Space Album (Body Language, Staying Power, etc) was not the best move. And they lost lot of fans, me included.
Their attempt to survive from the "dinosaur" label was not so good.

However their latest works were really good. Songs like "I'm going slightly mad", "The Miracle", "Innuendo" or "A kind of magic" are very nice songs.

A guy in my fraternity used to blast their music when I was trying to sleep, but I like some of it anyway. Maybe 50% of what I've heard. I will say that I never cared for the Flash Gordon soundtrack that everybody else adores.

I was a big fan of the earlier Queen stuff. I saw them in concert back in 1979 and they were GREAT! Freddie was quite the entertainer and had the crowd in the palm of his hand. And Brian May is a great guitarist. I never much got into their later stuff, but I always loved Freddie. I cried the day he died.

Queen...

was and is one of my favorite bands ever...I have yet to hear a single track by Queen that I dislike, Which is the ONLY artist I can say that about!

I have worn out multiple copies of Innuendo, The title track "Innuendo" followed by "I'm Going Slightly Mad" make a great opening pair of tracks (Plus the video for "I'm Going..." is hilarious, Especially Brian May's interaction with a penguin, While dressed as a penguin himself...John McVie had to be proud, LOL!!!)

I recommend the "Live At Wembley Stadium" DVD set, That IS the best sounding concert I have EVER heard...Thank God the DVD was the complete show since the original release of "Wembley '86" on video was about 3/4th the shows. I get goosebumps each time I watch this concert.

For ya Brian May fans I recommend the "Radio Innuendos" bootleg, He plays the guitar live in the studio (During various interviews across the US during the promotional tour he did for "Innuendo" during 1991) to the original Queen studio tracks, A really great & cool idea...Plus hearing him slam "Vanilla Ice" for ripping off "Under Pressure" is frikkin classic!!!!!!

What I wouldve gave to have seen the Queen/Thin Lizzy double bill that toured back in 78/79...In a word WOW!!!

Brian j.

ps-Btw, Freddie was and IS my favorite singer of all time...As he would say "Isnt that interesting...Dar-ling" RIP Freddie, We still miss you!

They are one of my favorite bands!! I had to learn to play "Another One Bites The Dust" on my flute back in 1980 and I had their greatest hits on cassette which I wore out.
I love many of their songs from all the eras of their career, but my favorite is the Kind Of Magic album which features many of the songs that were in the Highlander movie.

is "A Kind Of Magic", I recommend it to anyone.

My favorite ballad of all time is from both "Highlander" & AKOM, "Who Wants To Live Forever"...I loved Queen's association with the "Highlander" movie so much that I purchased the "Immortal Edition" of the movie on DVD just to get the video for "Princes Of The Universe", Where Freddie has a brief sword match against Christopher Lambert (Though Freddie used his ever trusty microphone stand).

Kinda cool that Russell Mulcahy did both "Highlander" & the Fleetwood Mac video for "Gypsy"!!!

Brian "...It's a Kind Of Magic" j.

Never liked Queen. "Another One Bites the Dust" is particularly atrocious. I always put them in the same boat with Foreigner and Loverboy. I hate all that '70s arena rock stuff. I stick with Jackson Browne and Linda Ronstadt. :)

For my junior high marching band! I thought it was pretty cool but I would rather have done "TUSK" as it was around that time frame.

although some of their songs ARE irresistible, overall i think Queen are the second most overrated act ever, and that aiming towards overly dramatic hollowed stadium hymns was their primary goal 90% of the time.
i worked as a musical programmer too closely to a queen-fetishist for more than 4 years (god, that station sounded like Mac vs. Queen for ages  ) and let me just say that these were real hard times audibly. sometimes i wake up in cold sweat fearing a zombie-mercury is still out to get me in my sleep

Forgive me, but both seem like odd choices for the flute. ;)

Wow, that took me a while (I'm slow today). Well, my mother is a huge fan. I like their music. Freddie Mercury's voice is awesome. One of the bests.

I love Queen. I have a few of the older albums and all the CD except Flash Gordon, which I hate. I love the stuff up to about 1985 and Inneundo. I have been to the U.S. fan club convention which is a ton of fun but not to the one in England. I have some older out of print tapes of Queen which I watch alot, the Magic concert tape, Budapest concert tape and a few others. I have them at LiveAid somewhere in the house and the tribute concert from 1992. Freddie was the best, I can't believe he has been gone for 13 years.

Cool. Like I said, I thought I was alone in feeling this way.
