Lindsey's Stones addiction

I've been thinking (insert punchline). Do you suppose Lindsey has bought any more Stones albums? After all, he kind of got stuck on 1965's December's Children for a while, and recorded three songs from that album -- Gotta Get Away, The Singer Not the Song, Blue Turns to Gray.

To be fair, he seems to also have been listening to Aftermath (1966), where he got I Am Waiting, which by the way, is a rather uninteresting song in my humble opinion. Then he seems to have gotten into Between the Buttons (1967) and picked up She Smiled Sweetly, a wonderful tune.

Now, do you think with the next batch of songs we'll get "Lindsey Raids the Stones Catalogue, 1968-1971?"

If so, here's what I hope he steals:

No Expectations (Beggars Banquet, 1968)
She's a Rainbow (Through the Past, Darkly, 1968, originally released in Their Satanic Majesties' Request, 1967)
Monkey Man (Let It Bleed, 1969)
Let It Bleed (ibid)
Dead Flowers (Sticky Fingers, 1971)

What say ye?

Monkey Man. Wow, good choice.
I'd like him to take a shot at You Can't Always Get What You Want.

Dead Flowers could be something, but I'd have to say he needs duetting with Stevie on that one.

"Wild Horses"...as a duet with Stevie.

"Wi-i-i-i-ld Hor-r-rses...couldn't drag me ay-wayyyyy"

Monkey Man, without a doubt. He could do a killer version that song.

I've always wanted him to do Neil Young's "I've Been Waiting For You," but I doubt that'll ever happen.

That would be super pretty, judging from BC, and well, everything.

Nice idea, Chili, but I don't see Lindsey picking that one. He tends to go for the more obscure numbers.

Lindsey only gets his rocks off when he's sleeping.

Allow me to remember the "Here Comes The Sun" debacle right now. :wavey:

Oh, you were talking about Rolling Stones tunes, right, sorry. :sorry:

It was fabulous. We all have a right to our opinions. I really think it was the opposite of a debacle.

No one will ever persuade me that performance was anything short of brilliant. If you'd never heard the song before, you might think so also.

George would be happy that Lindsey took a fresh approach to it. I know, he talks to me in dreams. ;)

How about Love In Vain? I can hear Lindsey trying that one out. Or Torn And Frayed? Or Under My Thumb! hehe

I might have agreed with the sleaze thing before Come. Now, I'd say Lindsey could probably pull it off. I know a lot of people like that song, but it grates on me a little, and not just for the lyrics. Musically it kind of pounds you over the head and it is somewhat repetitive. Lyrically, well, it's typical Mick. Perhaps one of these days one of his daughter's boyfriends will sing it to him.

Lindsey already stole from Torn and Frayed, no? Steal your heart away. Steal your heart away. I bet he'd been listening to Exile too. Anyway, he must have been listening to Exile when he wrote the music to Gift of Screws, that song is a strangely appealing beast -- Emily Dickinson meets the Stones.

I do believe we are talking about different performances and audio clips. There is one mp3 floating around in an extreme crappy bootleg quality. You hear audience noise and everything. Lindseys singing sounds totally off there and the whole thing seems to be awful bordering on being ridiculous. Was it on some charity concert back then? I don't recall exactly. Then there is another clip floating around. I saw it maybe 2 weeks ago on Nancy`s site. It is a TV appearance from 31.12.01 and the audio and video quality is quite good. That performance is very fine and I am sure everyone criticizing his version of HCTS has heard the same crappy sound quality clip I first heard. Please go check the TV show clip, although it is a pretty large file- it`s worth it and I am sure you change your mind after that.

CarneVaca 07-16-2004 08:53 AM

Stefan, as far as I know, what you are talking about is two files of the same performance. Unless I missed it somehow, Lindsey performed that song in public only once.

I have a very decent-sounding file of the ABC appearance. It was a New Year's Eve show, and he almost was barred from performing when the producers discovered how different Lindsey's arrangement of the song was. This is what caused the guitar-tossing incident in a New York hotel room. When you look at the video, you can see a hole on the bottom side of the guitar.

You make an interesting point: Perhaps some people hate it so much because of the poor quality of the file they have. I know that won't be the case for someone like ChiliD, though, who starts to have convulsions every time this topic comes up. ;) It might explain the reaction of some others, though.

My 2 cents...

Here Comes the Sun was BRILLIANT!! The emotion he had in his strained voice was anger and sadness. Looking at his face at the end of the song, there's no question his feelings about the ABC cats.
