New Tour Date - Chumash Casino Grand Opening 7/18

Just recieved this info from a friend... has anyone heard anything about this? Fleetwood Mac playing a casino opening sounds ridiculous, but I checked out the links and it appears to be legit?!

Front row tickets are $500. WTF?

tynan88 06-26-2004 06:49 AM

I would think that's a real shame, I mean no one has ever suggested the Mac don't like making money, but Damn, opening a Casino????

How low can FM go? :( Santa Ynez is not even a major city so I really don't know how many people would be willing to pay so much money for tickets especially when FM have just played Southern California.

I am sure Fleetwood Mac is getting a huge upfront GT to play this gig.

With that said, I think there is a little bit of missing the reality of the situation going on here.

How many times has Fleetwood Mac played the MGM is Las Vegas? It is a casino.

Casinos in Connecticut and Mississippi have had such major acts as Buffett, Aerosmith, Carole King, Shania, The Eagles all play them. The fact is in the US concert market Casino venues are becoming a player.

This seems a little different because it is part of an opening, making it a little more of a corporate gig, but on the other hand so was the MTV thing in New York this spring. Samething with some of Stevie;s corporate gigs for Microsoft and others...It is part of the business.

about FM having played at Casino's before & this show being a corporate performance type of thing, But knowing how most Indian owned casino's (Especially those here in Oklahoma) do not generate large amounts of money I would find it shocking if the Chumash Tribe offered a large GT to FM...Maybe they made a deal where FM could take a large percentage of the gate for the show? (Most shows here at casino's have a ticket price under $30)

Usually the type of musical artists who play the Indian casino's around this area are either those who are up and coming (ie-Trace Adkins, Kelley Coffee) or those whose careers are a shadow of their former selves (ie-David Lee Roth) because they are more economical to book for performances/appearances than those considered as "major acts".

That's what I thought too. But from what I understand the venue only holds 1,300 people.

True. But the MGM Grand is a big-name fancy joint in Las Vegas with a massive arena that is the size of a typical concert venue. I had never even heard of Santa Ynez (and I live in southern California), nor any hype about the opening of this place. I'm picturing a small obscure casino, which is why I found it hard to believe at first.

Isn't that where Michael Jackson lives, or the area?? Name sounds like I've heard it before.

Maybe that's the casino's way of keeping out the fanbase riffraff. The casino probably wants to reward its high rollers with front-row seats to a major concert, so maybe it's hoping that the extra-high ticket prices keep fans of the band away. A casino can easily fill a 1,200-seat theater with casino visitors on a weekend.

Casinos usually comp most of the great tickets for their high rollers.

OR has to pay off a debt

ewww! A Casino opening?

Is Fleetwood Mac going the way of George W. Bush?!

They should know better than that - supporting a casino -

and when they have played Vegas and Atlantic City for the last 25 years what do you think they are doing? MGM, Trump, the Alladin, or wherever does not give that money to charity - it goes to the casino

BTW - what does George W. Bush have to do with casinos? Certainly people from all political backgrounds gamble

OK I just bought myself a 95.00 ticket for the Saturday night show. They must be comp tickets because all of the first 4 price levels were sold out. I got the first row Y of the level 5 tickets.

Hey at least I am going. I don't know if I can go to the Sunday show yet because I don't know if I can get Monday off to fly home. I am also flat broke and need to start saving again.

Hey I won't be bored just broke!
