how come no one likes Welcome TTRS

After reading posts for a year now Ive come to the conclusion that alot of people dont like welcome to the room sara.I have always really liked this song and am curious why the dislike.

wondergirl9847 06-15-2004 08:30 PM

Not me

I like the song. Sure, it's no Rhiannon, Storms or Landslide, but it's okay. I like singing it. :)

The thing that saves it (for me at least) is those incredible vocal games between the three singers. I do listen to it just because of that.

Song of the moment - Get Like You Used To Be

diamondsnake 06-15-2004 10:48 PM

I love this song! I started a thread last year asking the same question and a bunch of people seemed to like the song. I also asked if anyone liked Paper Doll and a bunch of people said yes even though no one ever talks about that song!

I really like this song, and love singing along too. I think the lyrics are great- about Stevie's rehab at Betty Ford. I especially love "This is a dream- right? Deja Vu..." and the lyrics from Blue Lamp. Like wondergirl said, its no Rhiannon, but as far as songs go, I think its great.

I'll support the song... I like it. It makes me think of her time in Betty Ford and what that must have been like being famous and in there.

I like it a lot, especially the Blue Lamp lyrics thrown in and the way her voice sounds in the Deja-vu and Aw-aw lines.

Reading through the positives in this thread, I see that everyone likes the words because of the personal nature of that experience for Stevie.

I don't really love the song because I think the arrangement & instrumentation are essentially hookless & the lead vocal is screechy. I also think a lot of those words are really dumb.

dissention 06-16-2004 07:48 AM

I don't like it because it's just a jumbled mess and none of it works or stands out. There is no hook whatsoever and the music is quite cheesy and half-baked. If this was written when she was in Betty Ford, you can certainly tell, the lyrics are a mess. Very sloppy and ill-conceived. Play it for a casual fan and you'll get a look of sheer confusion. The cryptic references to her management is what really puts me over the edge of despising this song. And the stolen lyrics from Blue Lamp.

Johnny Stew will explain just why he thinks the song is greatness.
Then CarneVaca and Gaius will say how useless Stevie was in the mid 80s.
Then a debate will start up on who is better, Stevie or Lindsey and 40 pages later nothing will be resolved!
Let’s just say a lot of people don’t like this song, but there are plenty of people who do.
Different strokes for different folks and all that.
Okay?
:)

Short answer: THE SONG SUCKS!

golddustwoman77 06-16-2004 09:36 AM

Personally, I like the lyrics to this song. It really tells the story about where she was at that point in her life. I don't like the music and the tempo of the song. The song has this really draggy tempo. I think that just pulls the song down. It is like the lyrics are trying to move forward, but the tempo keeps pulling them back. The music, tempo, and lyrics don't even match up in my opinion. The song would be much better, if it had different music with a different beat/tempo. Of course, to each his own.

Oh well, those two are the most maligned songs on Tango,

You're forgetting Family Man.

Tango in the Night is such a mixed album. I love Big Love. I love Seven Wonders. I love the title song. I love Little Lies. I love Isn't It Midnight . I like You and I Part II ,I even love When I See You Again.

But then I HATE Family Man, I HATE Caroline, I HATE Mystified and I HATE WTTRS. It's like these songs were just thrown together half-assed and put on the album because they had nothing else. I know the whole story and it's no wonder these songs got on but I just never had an album where some songs are my absolute FAV and some I hate the most. Oh well.

WTTRS would be better if something was different, like some organization of the music, lyrics and everything else that's going on. It just doesn't sound right at all. It's a mess.

I know I forgot Everywhere but I don't have any opinion of that song.
