PBS Hilarity: "Live in Boston" in Houston
I had suspected that the "Live in Boston" broadcast in Houston would be a PBS pledge drive, but I didn't know for sure when I tuned in last night. Sure enough, the concert was interrupted every 15 minutes or so with a 20- to 30-minute pledge drive. Highlights of the evening:
- After Lindsey's solo during "Come", the camera quickly switched to the pledge drive, and one of the ladies hosting practically yelled (with a big smile on her face): "THAT MICK FLEETWOOD SURE CAN PLAY GUITAR!!!!" This is the same lady who, earlier in the broadcast, called the band "Fleetwood Max". On the next pledge drive interruption, she came back onscreen saying something like: "Oh, so it's Lindsey Buckingham, not Mick Fleetwood. Thanks to all of you who called in to correct me. I stand corrected. Stay tuned to the rest of the broadcast, as I guarantee I'll be making more mistakes. But maybe you could call in with a pledge instead of just to correct me?!?!" - Several times during the pledge portion of the broadcast, they played Christine tunes in the background, including "Everywhere" from The Dance. After one such interlude, a guy came on and metioned that Christine had a solo album that was just released and was no longer in the band. Then, he looked around and yelled to the crew, "Hey, does anyone know if John and Christine McVie are still married? I know they used to be married, but are they still married?" He repeated the question over the next 2 pledge breaks, baiting the viewers with comments like: "For those of you who knew Lindsey Buckingham, not Mick Fleetwood, is the guitarist, we're still waiting for an answer on the McVie marriage situation." I wanted to call in and say, "Gee, stupid, pick up any article about Fleetwood Mac from the last 30 years. The answer is in EVERY freakin' one..." |
But at least they're showing it in your area...my local PBS station has no plans to broadcast it. |
I had to record the PBS special and then go back and fast forward thru the pledge drive.

You left out where the guy asked people to call in again because nobody knew if the McVies were divorced in '76 or '79.
He also said that Chris has been working steadily as a solo artist for years and years. Have you guys been holding out on me?  - Jake |
Bwa haha! That doesnt surprise me. Those PBS hosts arent always the brightest. I can just hear them saying "Fleetwood Max" and calling Lindsey "Mick Fleetwood." Ugh...I would've just rolled my eyes.

Yeah..
The lady last night on my PBS station got a couple of things wrong too, and I had to endure the whole "Remember, in 1975 when they were on the radio. I love Rumours, don't you? I was in high school..."
SHUT UP!! LOL |

And Carolina Girl, I feel for you. Houston is blessed with a good PBS station, for sure, despite their occasional faux pas on pledge drives. At least the concert is being released on DVD, so you'll still be able to enjoy it, sans the "give us money!" interruptions... |
Lmao!
I love Reno 911, but missed it last night, as I was recording the Boston show. Is it wrong that I find Thomas Lennon kinda hot? :o His short shorts crack me up!!

QUOTE] Before we get to proud of our city, remember last night's lady said that Houston has the nation's oldest PBS station, but that in most cities 1/9 of PBS viewers are members; in Houston the number is 1/20. - Jake |

Go to FM photos. I took some photos off my TV last night of the Boston show...I will probably take more later. My tape ran out at the beginning of Don't Stop so I didn't get that or Goodbye Baby. :( Ah well....gotta get that DVD. |

As for the PBS idoicy.... Maybe I should be glad Nova Cable decided that PBS is not necessary to their customers. |
