Lyrics only Stevie can get away with (and we LOVE her for it)!

"And she'll go FAST like a jetplane
And then FAST like a starstream"
(Sister Honey)

"She says, 'The sky is crying'
He says, 'The sky is blue'
Can you get into that?"
(Juliet)

LOVE-IT! :blob1:

Others?

wondergirl9847 04-18-2004 12:38 AM

Hmmm....

Sorcerer
Who is the master
Man and woman on a star stream
In the middle of a snow dream
Sorcerer
Show me the high life
Come over
Let me put you on ice

And as all arch angels do to you
And as all arch enemies will finally do to you, too

But I like some kind of TIME/LIFE edition,
Tradition, competition...

"some carry a stiletto in their garter along with everything else....that they carry."

so, that's what she's got going on behind those layers of chiffon?

i'm sure there's some kind of poetic meaning to this but when i first heard it thought "what the hell does that mean? she's stuffing things in her panty hose now?

was the "been caught stealin" video (jane's addiction) loosely based on Stevie?

laurie816 04-18-2004 08:23 AM

Let's see here...

Some of the ones that make me go HUH??

"Here I am dramatic"
"Here I am not waiting"
"Here I am not listening"

...I picture Stevie with a slide projector telling us where she is

"I understand your position, I withdraw my decision...well, i've got no more information for you"...Spy Girl Stevie??

"Children of the world, the forgotten chimpanzee"...just to hear Stevie sing chimpanzee in a song is priceless

"ooh, and you're consistent HEY and that's good!"...is it Stevie or Tony Robbins Motivational Speaker (or is it Roberts??)

"When you lose your sight and there's nothing to see"...kinda redundant kinda redundant

"Everything all around me is electric now, but I haven't burned a candle in a real long time"...Yes, I'm sure (like Joe said in the previous post) that there is some poetic meaning, but my response is always WTF ;)

So I walked on down the line away from you
Maybe my attention was more than you could do
One man, well he would not call
He asked me for too much, that was all
Stand back stand back, in the middle of my room I did not hear from you

Lollipop (no wait, make that a degree in linguistics) for anyone who can explain this to me!

Somebody said last year that the line is the aisle she walked down for her wedding.
I think the guy who asked for too much & came nowhere near that wedding is Lindsey.
A chocolate tootsie pop better be here shortly. I don't need no friggin' talk dergree.

I don't think that's redundant. She might mean you're blind and there's nothing out there to see anyway.

"Wassamaddababay" is just too easy to point out.

"I know everybody loves it, but the tear falling to the floor line in Love Is makes me cringe.

These are baffling but sound good:

"And black moons in those eyes of hers made more sense to me"

"And the guardian of your challenge does not cry"

"So about the moon and her sisters/How dare he take them prisoner/Well, if she had flung out her heart against him, then in all her wisdom/Oooh, that was a mystery"

"But his eyes want for her much more/That's not so different from the way that he says/Don't hide behind your hair that way, baby/Don't hide behind your hair/It's a bit of gold and braid/Easy come the tears"
(I'm picturing Stevie with her hair brushed like Cousin It, though I don't understand how you can hide your eyes behind just a bit of gold and braid anyway. Maybe she Bo Dereked her hair and then pinned the braids across her face? My tears would come easy, too.

Her other candle references deal with stress/healing, i.e., Illume, Candlebright or with artistic expression/life, i.e., Lady From The Mountain.

Or maybe the candle here is a euphemism for drugs? My life is electric but I'm not reaching for the drugs like I used to?

Anyway, every time I hear her sing the word Electric I think of the horrible vibrating neon that is the Paper Doll video.

"You fill the room with the wind and the rain and the water."
"There was a light that lighted the way to the chamber where they spent all their time."
"They take a limousine because everything else is taken care of."
"The clouds never expect it when it rains by the sea." (Casual listeners don't get this song at all.)

Johnny Stew 04-18-2004 02:49 PM

"I am a cliff-dweller from the old school."

"In silence she says, 'Excalibur.'"

"Her horse is like a dragonfly, and she is just a fool."

I can't imagine any other vocalist making lines like those sound so moving and profound... but then, that's part of Stevie's genius, isn't it? :D

I've often wondered if this was somehow a reference to John, whose boat was named "The Challenge."

If not, then it seems that John is the only member of the 'Rumours'-era Mac that Stevie hasn't written a song for/about!

Did he call it "the challenge" because he thinks that he is the challenge on christine's mind from the song "the challenge" on her solo record? :D

"You can ride hide atop your pony, I know you won't fall, cause the whole thing's phoney" What a way to begin the first song on her first record? LOL

"Better run for your life said the mad hatter, alright said Alice, I'm going back, to the other side of the mirror!" Who else would have the nerve to put this fairytale to music?

Actually, John named his boat "The Challenge," back in 1978 (I believe it was)... Christine's song wasn't released until 1984.

So one wouldn't be too far off base, to assume that perhaps her song was written with John in mind. :)
