Hanson did it!!

I was watching some special on Hanson last night (I think it was either MTV or VH-1) and these boys got the Lindsey Buckingham Special...aka The Runaround from their Record Company. They wrote 80 songs, the record company said they ALL were unusable. So, the boys formed their own record label and BAM, their first single from that album debuted at #2 on the Billboard Hot 200!!

Now, my question goes along with Carne's thread in asking, WHY can't Lindsey start his own label? If Hanson can do it....yeah. I realize he likes to make money and he loves being artistic, and this way, he could sign other artists to his label and when FM stops recording/touring (NEVER!!! LOL), then, he could help other artists.

Clint Black did the SAME thing, started a label giving his artists FREEDOM to make their music without people saying, "This won't sell."

Anyone ever heard of a record company called "Apple"?

The Beatles did it way back in 1968.

Ain't a new concept.

Didn't Apple went bankrupt?

Maybe Lindsey is afraid to do this because he has family now and he can risk a big financial failure if it doesn't work.

Didn't Mick Fleetwood...TWICE?!?

Apple Records is still alive & well and being run by Neil Aspinall. Bankruptcy doesn't ALWAYS mean "out of business". All things "Beatles" are still released under the Apple label.

Actually, Prince did the same thing, too. He has complete artistic freedom now. (hence, his return to the name "Prince" and finally dropping that stupid "artist formerly known as" crap).

If I am not mistaken, Stevie formed her own label? Wan't it Mod[e]rn Records? SHe was not the only artist in it. Eventually, she sold it to Atlantic. I could be wrong though as that was a long time ago.

Also, Madonna formed Maverick didn't she. AND - she "found" Alanis Morisette on Meverick.

Stevie didn't actually form her own label, so much as a label was formed around her.

Modern was created for her, and she was their first signed artist (and ultimately their most successful), and the collateral they used to get a distribution deal with Atlantic. :)

Thanks for the info.

Btw, the whole point I was trying to make is that IF artists like the beatles or others do this and are not succesful. Other artists might not want to risk it. Lets used LB as an example, he may want to do it but the fact that he has family now, he might not want to take that risk. JMHO.

Good gravy

I didn't say it hadn't been done before, I was just saying that if HANSON can do it, so can Lindsey.

Yes he could, but what I'm saying he might not want to since he has family now and it would be a big risk financially to do what hanson did (IMO).

Saradorna, I don't think Chili was yelling at you. After reading that twice, he was just going with the flow of the thread:)

Just wanted to ease your mind...I think everyone would agree:)
