Tammy Faye

She was on Larry King and announced that she has been diagnosed with lung cancer and it's inoperable. :(

As I've said many times before, I'm not a religious person, but I think of Tammy Faye as an inspiration to others and have the deepest respect for such a great woman. She'll be in my thoughts.

Yes, this is so sad. She has gone through so much in her life.
Her poor kids. I hope they can do something for her.
May God pour his love and grace on her.

I was heartbroken for her. I really like her and the way she is so comfortable in being herself. Frigging cancer.

Larry King is on right now in my area, so I'm catching it. Funny the clip they show her in the van jiving to Vanilla Ice.

Sorry to hear this.
Forgive my ignorance on the subject, but isn't lung cancer quite unusual for a non-smoker her age? I can't imagine she was a smoker. Not that it would be less tragic if she were, but I'm just surprised that she would have lung cancer, of all things.

My grandmother never smoked a cigarette a day in her life, but she developed lung cancer at 60 years of age, and died from it a few years later.

My grandfather, however, had been a heavy smoker before his passing, so my grandmother was exposed to second-hand smoke for many years.

Smoking cigarettes not only can kill you, but the people around you too.
Now if only smokers would really consider that every time they light up... especially smokers who have small children.

Anyway, off my soapbox now.

Smoking killed my father's father, as I've posted before, so no arguments here.
I'm still thinking it's odd for Tammy Faye to have it. Do you imagine she had smokers around her? She said she never danced until last year, so I'm thinking her life has been pretty clean in this regard. Then again, who knows what was going on in her life thirty years ago when everybody and his mother seemed to be smoking.

This is quite sad. She is first of all a hoot, and certainly an inspiration.
I hope she gets a second opinion or five. A dear friend of mine was diagnosed the same way over a year ago. They gave her three months. She went to three other doctors, and finally found one who would operate on her. All the other doctors had misdiagnosed the cancer type. This surgeon literally cracked her in half at the chest, got everything out, put her on chemo, and she is healthy and cancer free today. At her "going away party" last summer, we all thought we were saying goodbye. The next week, her last ditch effort with a young crackerjack surgeon hit the jackpot.
I hope Tammy Faye is similarly tenacious and lucky.

This is sad news. :(

I always get a kick out of Tammy Faye....in spite of everything, I find her very genuine and kind...I didn't see all of the "Surreal Life"...the show she was on with various "celebrities"...Vanilla Ice, Erik Estrada, one girl from the real world, Tracy Bingham (I think that's her name)...Tammy Faye and Ron Jeremy...whom I STILL have a hard time believe is a porn star!??!...ewww.

In any case, Tammy seemed to have really bonded with the porn guy...laughing and dancing with him and he really seemed to treat her with the utmost respect....like a mom. And of course, she was touched by his kindness...and it showed. She said she loved all of them and they all brought her happiness and showed her so much and she had fun with them all.

She does seem very sweet. I'll hope for the best.

What a story, Sparky.

Tammy Faye...

This is HORRIBLE news. :( I hope she DOES get a second and third opinion because my uncle was diagnosed with cancer about 4-5 years ago. They gave him 6 months at the most. He went to Vegas with my aunt and had a fun time. They prepared for his death. He's STILL here. Doctors make me sick.

She is a terrifc person!! She has come through all the muck and crap and still comes out looking good!! I watched the Surreal Life and it was very interesting to see her and Ron become close friends. I think he kind of looked out for her and she did see the kindness in him. She makes Christians look good, because God knows (literally. LOL) how many times I've heard "hypocrite" in regards to Christians. She doesn't judge and she treats everyone kind.

I believe Andy Kauffman died of lung cancer...am I right on this? He was a non-smoker too, I think.

She said that her doctors told her it might be due to her colon cancer, that maybe it spread somehow.

I feel awful for her because she loves to sing and the cancer has effected her vocal chords so that she can't sing and her voice cracks when she talks.

I think I'm going to send her a letter with my well wishes for her. Such a class act, she is.

Lung & colon cancers often go hand in hand, sorry to say.

I'd forgotten her other cancer experience, back in her talk show days. '96, I think.

I was very saddened to hear about Tammy Faye. :(

She is a very kind lady who visits our restaurant a lot with her husband and family (I am from Charlotte and she lives here). I will be praying for her and her family. She is a very strong woman spiritually and I know she will get through this with God on her side. It's just a shame to hear about this after she's turned her life around so much after dumping Jim Bakker.
