Help Please - The Chain
 

DOES ANYONE HAVE THE PROPER GUITAR TABS/CHORDS FOR "THE CHAIN?"

I HAVE TRIED DOWNLOADING THEM OFF THE INTERNET BUT THEY DON'T SEEM THE RIGHT CHORDS. WOULD APPRECIATE IF ANYONE CAN HELP WITH THE CORRECT ONES.

The chords are rather inexact, & differ slightly from one published source to another, & even from one tour to another. But approximately they are:

[Em no 3] Listen to the wind blow [A]

[A7] Watch the sun [D6] rise [C6] [Em no 3]

[same for all verses]

And if [Am7] you don't love me now
You will never love me again
I can [Em] still hear [Em11] you [C6] saying
You would [D add9] never break, never break the [Em no 3] chain.

[same for all choruses]

Tag: [Am] [C] [G] [Em]
(Chain, keep us together) etc.

Note that the band dropped it down a whole step (to D) in more recent years, but they used to perform it in E, as shown.

There are tabs in the "Rumours Off The Record" folio as well as some of the guitar magazines published since the reunion.

You're in luck! I am a genius at guitar parts for FM songs. Right now, I only have the intro to the Chain (Dance version) tabbed out, but I will finish the rest later.

If you need help with the guitar parts for any FM songs, please let me know. I don't know every single song off every single album, but if I know it, then I can definitely help you.

Unfortunately, unlike our friend above, Lindsey Buckingham has yet to honour me with the coveted status of "Genius of Fleetwood Mac guitar parts", but nevertheless I hope this helps you.

If you want to play "The Chain" as it is played by Lindsey, there is a perfect note-for-note transcription of how Lindsey plays it on "The Dance" here on The Penguin. (It is, for all intents and purposes, also identical to the way he plays it now on the SYW Tour).

The album version (and live versions from 1977 to 1980, plus LB's 1993 solo tour) are all variations of that same riff, only a capo is placed on the 2nd fret, shifting the key of the song up one whole step from D to E. Again, an idea of how the original riff differs from the '97 one is given on that same link (if you look lower down).

If you want to, however, just strum along to the song, I agree 100% with the chords David has given above.

(All other versions of tabs or chords I've seen for that song contain anything from a few to countless errors.)
