Beware the flu!

Okay, I'm sure I'm not the only one in the world who rarely gets sick, and therefore feels immune to epidemic illnesses. So, I do have this advice to offer those types of people, BEWARE THIS FLU! I haven't had the flu in well over four years, but with it flying around and dealing with the public, I ended up catching it, and it is the worst flu I've ever had. I still doubt the effectiveness of getting a flu shot, but I do suggest getting as much Vitamin C as possible, washing hands regularly, etc. I'm one of those who believe that the more you try to avoid illness with healthiness, the more likely you'll get sick. But, I suggest to take any precautions to at least help dull the flu.

Like I said, it's not fun to get. The worst thing is the immense chills you get, plus the utter lack of any strength. Yesterday I tried pouring milk out of an almost full gallon into the cat's bowl and ended up just spilling it everywhere. It's not the vomiting type of flu...the only positive point. But after taking a class in science communication and realizing how untrusting the public can be about science (especially myself), I thought maybe I'd give you all fair warning...they're RIGHT this time!

I know... I've been having the symptoms of the damned thing for over two weeks now... I just want to get it and get it over with. My throat's killing me, I'm paler than usual (Which is as white as a ghost... believe me), and I can't taste anything... Augh. Thank you for the advice :D

I'm not clear: Did you get the flu shot this year?
I was sick when they offered it at work, but I'm trying to get it as soon as I can.
One of the worst things about teaching is that if you get sick, your workload doesn't decrease. Preparing for a sub is a big pain.

I woke up with it yesturday, I felt like someone had drugged me, in a bad way.
I took a remidy called oscillococcinum its a homeopathic medicine, it has helped a lot.

Yes, this flu bug is totally terrible. I had it for 2 weeks (over Christmas :distress: ). It completely kicked my ass! I could barely get out of bed.

I have not been that sick is over 10 years. I even lost my voice for about 3 days. I couldn't drive home for Christmas, so my father had to drive to pick me up.

I didn't get a flu shot, but I will FOR SURE next year.

I've been really really lucky this year...I ALWAYS get sick for my b-day and Christmas...but serioulsy, since I've started working out regularly (this past summer) I have not gotten sick at all, I also take a vitamin supplement...and I've never felt better...

I also have never had a flu shot, everyone always says they only get the flu after they've had the shot! So I'm wary...

Of course now that I've said all of this I will probably end up sick lol...I'll let you know :D

No, I never get a flu shot because as Deanna said, I always hear people complaining of not feeling well after they get the shot. Plus, this flu is different, so the flu shot for this year won't help it because it's for last year's flu strain. At least that's what my friend (who is a nurse) told me.

I feel your pain about work not decreasing when you get sick. Now, just think of how a student like me feels when he has four professors adding work each class...I'm just happy that (for some reason) I'm pretty resilient with illness. Now if I could just get rid of the anxiety disorder, I'd be ok to go.

I believe, though I may be mistaken, that the foam in the corner is incorrect. I was always told that the green beans were to be parallel at all times. Of course, you must take into account my lifestyle. I was no match for three tissues, let alone one.

Last night there was a movie on Canadian television called "Plague City". It was all about the Sars crisis here in Toronto. Very, very scary.....how diseases can be spread so easily just by coughing or sneezing. Especially something as deadly as SARS!

I was wondering why my upper ear felt so shamed. But rest assured, I can eat 100% raw pig's blood, just not the rest of the pig.

I never had a flu shot...does it work?

I have gotten the flu many times. Last time was in January this year. I got it the day we got 18 inches of snow. I woke up and could NOT swallow or talk or move. I still had to come into work. The next day, I had to work a open to close and by the end of the night, I couldn't even move or talk. In a couple of days, I had no voice. That took about 3-4 weeks to totally get rid of.

I hope all who have this strain of flu get better soon. Eat well, sleep alot!
