Rumours rehearsal (2-26-77?)
 

I was wondering if the date on this bootleg is a discrepancy...It seems odd that they would have played Nassau Colliseum on 2-24 and then have a full rehearsal on 2-26. Doesn't make sense to me. Did they think they sucked at Nassau and decided they needed to rehearse again??? :laugh:

Maybe it was earlier in the month and when the bootleg got circulated it was mislabeled. I do remember Mick mentioned in his book that they rehearsed in February (but we all know how questionable his "facts" are in that book...however, i think the inaccuracies relate more to the personal stories rather than the dates).

Anyway, maybe they DIDN'T play at Nassau on the 24th and that bootleg is mislabeled.

Oh well, a boring thread. Was just wondering this since i got the cd a few weeks ago.

The date of the rehearsal is correct -- it was two nights before they opened in Berkeley on the 28th. They played Nassau on March 24. Here's a Billboard review:

A capacity crowd of approximately 15,000, mostly teens, turned out to see rock's success story of the year here March 24. And from the way Fleetwood Mac is progressing, it could be the success story of the 70's. The concert was barely advertised, but strong FM support pulled fans immediately.

Stevie Nicks has moved squarely into the limelight, fronting Fleetwood Mac in concert with mesmerizing charm and graceful, haunting moves. She's a gypsy in black veils and boots, fluid and dreamy, undulating at times in silhouette as Mick Fleetwood, the quintet's founding father, hammers away on the drums, his gaze rarely straying from her path.

The group plays so well together, with the additional factor of each member being extremely talented and capable of fronting the group themselves. Christine McVie, for example, has a following of her own, but she seems perfectly content to play impeccable keyboards and step out only twice to sing a song of her own composition, which are classics from the two current Fleetwood Mac LP's on Warner Bros.

John McVie, her ex-husband, stays close to her, inventing imaginatively powerful bass lines. Lindsey Buckingham, once linked romantically to Nicks, has become one of rock's most admired guitarists, always inventive, always tasty.

The group offers the audience approximately 90 minutes of music drawn solely from these smash albums, with no reference to Mick Fleetwood's earlier bands. [David's Note: Actually, FM played a number of older hits at this show, including "Station Man," "Why," "The Green Manalishi" & "Hypnotized."] Everyone gets a turn up front during the 10 or 12 songs served, but it is Stevie Nicks who, on account of the number of contributions she has made to the band's repertoire, seems to dominate. If the others don't mind, and they don't seem to, this is fine. The audience deserves more of Christine McVie, however.

Opening act was Atlantic's Firefall, which offers a solid 45-minute set of recognizable tunes from its year-old gold LP, including "You Are The Woman" and "Livin' Ain't Livin'," about eight songs in all.

It was a well-done concert, with a little magic and a lot of melody, diligently applied.

The Nassau bootleg sounds rather awful, But the "Rehearsal" seems of a very great quality...I wonder what else from that period may pop into circulation.

Too bad they wouldnt think the same now an rehearse...:laugh:

thanks David...i guess that explains it. i do actually have that Nassau show....Brian, i just got that from you not too long ago (along with the rehearsal AND Zep stuff)....i haven't listened to the whole thing...the quality is not that great for an audience quality but i'll eat anything up from those earlier years. it's taken a long time for bootlegs (soundboards, for example) to surface from this period. i'm anxiously awaiting more....i wish a decent soundboard would surface from one of the '76 shows. i actually have one from Cleveland but it's several generations away from the master and the equalization is way off...it's got decent bass and but the 1-4khz level is way too high so i have to lower it all the way on my system and it's still too much. it's definately a soundboard though.

the rehearsal is awesome...love "oh daddy" with Stevie and Lindsey's backing harmonies....it's a shame they didn't follow through after the rehearsals...and i love the (sort of) segue into "gold dust woman".

i wish the full San Diego show would surface...

ChiliD taped that one (as well as the Los Angeles 1977 tape). Maybe he can track down the rest of it. I'd love to have the final show in Hawaii from the Rumours tour. I'd also love to have soundboards of some of the August 1980 shows, like Los Angeles or Birmingham ("Angel" & "Monday Morning" are available from Birmingham). Maybe Frank Harding will sleep with someone else & leak some more soundboards.

If you have a soundboard of a '76 show, you should post it. I have Cleveland '76 on tape, but it's an audience recording.

i didn't know they ended the tour in Hawaii....oh, yeah, i'd love to have some late Tusk tour shows too...i wonder why only a few songs only surface (i have "angel" and "monday morning" too)...i think eventually the whole show will surface.

It's got to be the same Cleveland show...but this really sounds like a soundboard to me...everything is very upfront and the audience noise is very low. Let me see if i can post it...

Who's Frank Harding? Should i know this?

i only have "rhiannon"....it sounds slow and i think the audio levels were too high when i dumped it into the computer...
