Come Live and the Album Version
 

Hello all!

I have been listening to 'Come' recently and wondered whether Stevie or Lindsey sings the loud part of the song? When I saw FM live in Birmingham, Stevie didnt sing 'her' part, if she does sing it on the album, why doesnt she sing it live?

She doesn't sing on it on the album either. Lindsey apparently asked her to sing on it and she didn't want to.

Really? It does sound like her, so who does sing it?

I'm sure the voice belongs to Lindsey. He does little voice manipulations things and loves to layer vocals in songs.

I was recently debating with my uncle about this. I don't think it sounds like Stevie on the chorus, but he does. He's been a fan longer than I have, but I'm the bigger one, so I've not sure who to believe...

I think she sang part of the chourus on the album, but she didn't want to do it live... it sure sounds like her.

I don't know David, from what Lindsey said, she's not on the album:

"Stevie sees herself as being defined within a certain set of boundaries, outside of which things probably don't ring true to her, or to the people who listen to what she does," Buckingham theorizes. "But at the same time, I think she's intrigued by the idea of pushing the envelope, especially on this album. She never wants to go too far with it, though. For example, I asked her to sing on the song 'Come' and she wouldn't. I think she thought it was dirty. That tells you something about someone who has been a rock icon but in some ways is still quite a conservative person. And I don't see her as someone who has lived her life very conservatively. There defo seems to be a womans voice in the chorus parts, but you can clearly hear Lindsey when he goes wild at the end in the chorus.

There is only one singer on "Come" i.e. Lindsey.

The high parts in the chorus that sound "female/Stevie-esque" are Lindsey's voice put through a vocal pitch-shifter - exactly the same technology used to create the alternating "male/female love grunts" at the end of the studio version of "Big Love".

Lindsey is lying for Stevie... I don't believe him, Stevie just doesn't want anyone to know she did come with Lindsey.

Anyhoo, after listening to "Come" again on the dvd-audio, yeah it is all Lindsey. Stevie doesn't sing that way, but Lindsey sure does. I think he wanted his voice to sound "Stevie-ish" on that part.

On Lindsey's Gift of Screws demo of Come, there are a lot of vocal effects, and during the chorus there is a slight female effect.
