We Are The World

I know that Lindsey got to do this song, but why not Stevie? Was she just not invited? (If so, I wonder why) or was she invited and she turned them down?

I believe she was on tour, recording, etc. But, that was a long time ago - maybe someone with a better memory can clarify if I am wrong.

I believe, if my memory serves me well, that was in 1984. At that time Lindsey was in his "Go Insane" period. Since th group itself was on hiatus it would have been very atypical for the two of them to do anything together outside of the group context. I don't think Stevie suffered any for not being a part of that!

Off topic from the subject of the thread, but I've always found it quite funny that Lindsey is probably the only artist in that video who didn't have a solo singing part (you only see him in the group shots), and yet his signature on that board at the beginning (with the sigs. of all the participating artists) is the biggest and dead centre, going right across the whole board. Good for him!:D

I think that Lindsey got into this session because of his management, Michael Brokaw who was affiliated with Kragen and Company who managed Kim Carnes, Kenny Rogers, etc. as you could see they were there as well so that is my take on it.

Do you think they let LB get on the production staff and then said you are so talented but "this needs to be out by Christmas"

I remember on POP UP VIDEO they said the American Music Awards were the same night. Im sure he was at those and was one of the few who came from that. I'm sure his management told him it would be good.

Back then he was doing everything to promote that record!!!! Going to movie premieres and all. I couldn't imagine him doing that now, even though Im sure he'd still be called to do it.
:)

Interesting

I saw the Pop-Up Video thing and I do remember about the American Music Awards factoid.

Also, I didn't even notice Lindsey was there in general!

That was until last year, I think, they were showing the upper row and saw him. I said, "He looks a lot like Lindsey Buckingham."

I looked closer and said, "Wait... that is Lindsey Buckingham!!"

Actually, they ALL came directly from the AMAs to the studio.

Prince opted out, some say due to 1) his "rivalry" with Jacko and 2) he wasn't invited (probably due to #1).

Even in the name of "fellow man" & "common good", petty rivalries & jealousies reign.
