Smile at You - NON-angry version

I am listening to the demo of SAY, the non-angry version and THIS is the version that Lindsey built on. It's got the "ahhhh" in it, sounding like the SYW version, and that tambo (?) sound shaking throughout the song is like the ticking sound in the new version. Also, the pacing is similar, so I'm wondering if Miss Stevie even GAVE him the angry version to listen to, or if she only gave him this one. Perhaps, she felt the angry one was where she DID NOT want to go because of their obvious, strong friendship now? Who knows? Also, SYW is a non-angry type of album really, it may not have fit in with her screaming "FLAMING, FLAMING, FLAMING!!!!" Too harsh perhaps.

Now, I love ALL versions of this song, it's one of her BEST of the BEST, IMO. I just happened to notice this just now taking a listen to it.

This is also the version with the "I should have turned around and ran fast as I can" line, so, yeah, I too have wondered if this was the basis for the SYW version.

I was listening to the Angry version of Smile at You, and I have to say as much as I love Stevie's energy in the vocals, it's not a good cut as a song. It really has no flow at all, and to me sounds more of just a jam session. It's like, Stevie sings a verse then they jam on the instruments for a while, then Stevie chimes in again, and so on. So I'm glad they chose a more structured format for the song.

well maybe, but now why didn't they use that extra really awesome verse in the angry one "Now you feel the noise (crazy vibratto! I LOVE IT!!!) Its the only one I listen to when I'm feeling intense, although I guess that goes without saying. And they could have used the "my heart! my heart! was broooken!"... not overly maniacal, although probably out of her range... i dunno. angry is my fave, hands down.

Well since the angry flaming version comes from the Mirage sessions, Lindsey would definitely know about it.

Perhaps the "screeching songs" are only Lindsey's domain now ? :)
