Keep your fingers crossed...
Okay, so now the release dates for the "expanded and remastered" versions of Fleetwood Mac (1975), Rumours, and Tusk are set for November 4th.
Now since Rumours is going to be expanded to 2 discs (along with Tusk), I've been wondering...What are they going to include to extract two-discs worth of material out of an originally 11-track set? I mean, it is safe to assume that "Silver Springs" is going to be included. But it also leaves question as to what else is going to be on it. That's a bunch of extra room to fill up. Tusk, on the other hand, is going to have twenty songs that are going to make up the majority of the set. The only thing we can really assume here is that "Sara" is going to be reinstated to the original album version, and that's it. And these questions also can make one wonder what on earth is going to be on the white album's extra space. It's not going to be much, but there's enough for three to five extra songs! All I know, is along with these demos and outtakes, there better be an extended/live/alternate/remix or something of "Brown Eyes." :D |
Only Dreaming...
I'd love the piano/demo version of SOTM on the re-issued Tusk but of course it won't be on there. I'd also love to have the original "Sara" in it's entirety nestled in somewhere on the album.

This is a scan I posted from a thread regarding the remasters content that was around a few months ago of Rhino's remastered "Loaded" CD by The Velvet Underground. You don't really have to know anything about their music to get the idea of the format they took with this, I'd imagine the Mac remasters will be something similar to this:
http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/attach...&postid=102242 ...but who knows, it can't be long before we find out what the extras are now, hopefully they'll be good though dissention has a point about how if it's messed up, it'll be because of FM and not Rhino (as it's FM who have to agree to the extra content at the end of the day). We can hope though. :) John |
When Warner Bros. remastered and re-released Madonna's first three albums a couple of years ago, they each contained only two additional tracks (extended remixes).
Trust me, Madonna has a TON of material they could have added... extended versions, alternate video mixes, single/radio edits, etc. They could have easily expanded these discs to two CDs apiece, or even added at least two more extended versions each, while leaving them as single-disc releases. So... my thinking is, that Rhino won't just be throwing four or five songs onto the second discs for 'Rumours' and 'Tusk.' It seems to me that the second discs will definitely be worthwhile. Though it's most likely that the additional material will be "merely" alternate takes & mixes, and/or live cuts... and not demos, or previously unreleased tracks (ie: "The Dealer"). |

If there isn't anything worthwhile on the remasters for extras, I won't be forking over the cash for 'em. I have all the albums, why do I need more copies? I can't hear a difference in sound anyway. |

I will take...
the "wait & see" approach before I spend money of remasters/expanded editions/reissues...They always seem somewhat of a letdown to me personally.

White album
The 1975 album is supposed to be reissued as well on the same day, according to Amazon, though it doesn't indicate if it will contain any additional material.
It'd be nice if Warner would remaster some of the early 70s catalog too. I've been waiting for clean crisp copies of Bare Trees and Mystery to Me for years. Daniel |
I agree w/Brian. I dont mind buying it again if it has something I really want. But if its another SYW 2 CD "extra" probably not. I only got that cause I wanted the inside poster.

I don't know now. I always assumed that I would buy these re-issues. I just assumed that the second discs from Rumours & Tusk would be loaded with unreleased & live stuff. It never occurred to me that this would be just a couple of extra tracks on the second disc. I will definitely wait to see the track listing before I order anything, as well as waiting to see if they lower the price. Right now, the prices of these discs on Amazon are pretty steep.

Well, Jason T. has a good title for this thread in "Keep your fingers crossed" as that's all we can really do at this point.
I think most of us can agree on the idea of waiting until we know the tracklisting before we buy so hopefully it'll come soon. As many of us seem to have gotten the 2 CD SYW for a reasonable price, I'm optimistic that this will be a case of "getting what we pay for" (i.e. 2 CD SYW not having much extras = pay less, Rhino remasters have lots of extras = pay more). Naturally, it'd be the coolest if we got all kinds of extras and didn't have to pay much for them but heck, given the choice, IF there's a bunch of extras on the Rhino's, I won't mind paying that little bit more. :) Like Jason says, we'll just have to wait and hope I guess. :) John |
