Best Stevie/Tom Petty Song?

I think Stop Draggin My Heart Around (got me hooked on Tom in the first place) and The Apartment Song (even though it was just a demo, Stevie's background vocals are awesome!)

My favorite collaboration between Tom and Stevie is definitely "Insider." It's such a beautiful song and Stevie's harmonies are absolutely amazing...especially on the live version.

I've only hear a couple, and I'm a little burnt out on SDMHA...but I love the Apartment Song...we did it as a cover in a band I was in a year ago...it was a blast...

Insider.... without a doubt. I love that song

I am right there with you!!! I just cannot choose between the Live version or the studio one. I think Stevie's vocals on the live version are just incredible, esp. when you consider that was, I think, the RAL era, an era when she was not known for giving the best vocals for a variety of possible reasons.

Tom's words are just gorgeous:

Insider

You've got a dangerous background
And everything you've dreamed of
Yeah you're the Dark Angel
It don't show when you break up
And I'm the one who oughta know
I'm the one left in the dust
Yeah I'm the broken hearted fool
Who was never quite enough

Chorus
I'm an insider, I've been burned by the fire
And I've had to live with some hard promises
I've crawled through the briars--I'm an insider

It's a circle of deception
It's a hall of strangers
It's a cage without a key
You can feel the danger

Repeat Chorus

I'll bet you're his masterpiece
I'll bet you're his self-control
Yeah you'll become his legacy
His quiet world of white and gold

And I'm the one who oughta know
I'm the one you left to rust
Not one of your twisted friends
I'm the one you couldn't love

Repeat chorus

Just beautiful!!!!!!! I remember hearing this (the live version) for the first time in like 1986 and thinking how wonderful it would be to have a "quiet world of white and gold."

Needles and Pins; I adore it! Just shows Stevie and Tom having a blast and singing an awesome song. The best in my book!

I also love You Can Still Change Your Mind! :D

I have to go with Insider.:)

My vote is Apartment Song.

On another subj tho, I love Stevie singing "Free Fallin" on Enchanted.

I love her:

"I gonna leave this WOOOORRRRLLLLDDDD for awhile!!!:

She certainly can "get up on it" when she takes a notion!!

Stevie's vocal on the "Pack Up the Plantation" version of "Insider" is one of her best live vocals ever. I'm with ya. It's actually not an '86 performance, though -- it's from the '81 Heartbreaker shows at the Los Angeles Forum. It was a powerful couple of nights for Stevie. Aren't we lucky that Petty taped them?

No question - INSIDER!!!!

Love the vocals on the live version.

"Insider". And the live version of it, too. That's a fantastic song, really.

Song of the moment - One Together

Insider--one of my all time favorite songs ever by anyone!

Insider has to be one of best duets ever. But you're forgetting about "I Will Run to You". I love that song!
