I posted the Thrown Down remix (aka wall-of-sound version) to my site. Remember to save bandwidth for others, to download the file only once (after that, just play it from the folder where your computer downloaded the file). It will be up until Wednesday.

I really love this version, it's more compelling than the album version, IMHO. Stevie's higher harmonies are so rich and refreshing to hear. And when was the last time Lindsey conveyed so much emotion in one of HER songs? Sweet.

I think they should've released THIS version as a single (BEFORE the album came out), then when people would eventually realize that the album version is different, they'd end up buying both. Marketing, marketing, marketing!! ;)

I, too, think this is the superior version. Better harmonies, better guitar, better pacing ("compelling" is a great way to put it!). It has an urgency that the album version lacks. And Lindsey's harmonies at the end are just delicious! :nod:

The Wall of Sound version blows the album version out of the water. This version has such an impassioned vocal from Stevie and the *best* vocals Lindsey has ever added to anothers song. The song does have a little REM thing going on that I like, too. I'm in love with it.

The album version...ugh. I can't bring myself to listen to that drivel. The first verse has an *atrocious* vocal from Stevie and Lindsey's vocals throughout the song are just so monotonal and boring. It feels very rushed and it actually feels cold, as if they don't mean what they're singing. The opposite is true for the other version.

I wonder if they thought this version was too intense for the record because the album version is the complete opposite -- pleasant, bright and non-threatening. I think some fans early on described it as having a quality that of Gypsy...a mellow, nice song rather than a powerhouse of lovers' emotions.

Or maybe Stevie wanted to sing the song in a more comfortable range in the event that the song became a hit and would have to be sung live. The vocal on the album version would probably be easier to reproduce than the other.

I actually like them both. I like the opening riff on the album cut, but, I like the chorus on the Wall of Sound better. Maybe someone should combine them and see what we get!!!!! :laugh:

to me there is NO competition, the album version is MUCH better, perfection. It's the perfect example of Lindsey turning a very average stevie song into perfection. I listen to the WOS version now and think how can that guitar part NOT be in the chourus, it's just so perfect. And no "Shaking th Faith at Me" are you kidding. And that annoying woman in the background. I much perfer Lindsey's "Together Together Together Together)

That sure was a nice change! Thanks for sharing that! I do like both versions. The remix is almost too fast for Stevie's Tempo now. Good to hear something different. Yeah that would be hard to repoduce for the tour......

I think that if they would have included the Wall of Sound version with the extra verse (shaken your faith...) then it would have been perfect.

I was secretly disappointed when I came back from holidays December last year to find this 'leaked SYW song'.
The instrumentation is too dense (hence the epithet 'wall of sound') and the vocals too strained/affected.

Give me the SYW version any day, but it's great to have the alt. version.

I don't think I have listened to the WOS version since the album came out, partly cuz i DO like it so much better, cuz it just rocks more... more my style (THANKS again Chili for sending it to me back when..!!:wavey: )
The ONLY thing is - I do love the 'shaking the faith' verse...
and I love the song period, either way..

Very refreshing! Has that real Gypsy-Mirage ala Buckingham feel. Really like the guitar work.

The album version is so much better, it sounds more "open". I really like the 'shakin the faith' verse. Overall the Say You Will version is better. I actually don't care for the wall of sound version at all.

Each has its strong points - I love Lindsey's vocal on the WOS version and it feels more urgent....

But for me the SYW version definitely wins. I think the more understated instrumentaion fits the tenor of the song more, and NO OVERPOWERING BACKUP SINGERS. Of course, as seveal people mentioned, what puts it over the top is the "shaking the faith" verse with adds more variance to a demo that was plodding and repetitive.

Lindsey definitely scored on his arrangement of this one.
