John B. Sail

Did anyone here create a "John B. Sail" sign & take it to the opening night show at the Arrowhead Pond?

I saw that sign & thought it was so cool! I think members of the band saw it, too, & were kind of surprised by it.

Uh

Slap me and call me stupid but what is the signifigance of John B. Sail?? Is it a person??? Enlighten me please!! lol...

The opening line of the Beach Boys' tune "Sloop John B"

"Hoist up the John B.'s sail..."

I know about the John B Sail!

Yes that was my friend blackcat's sign! She hoisted the John B Sail during the band's final bow. Lindsey saw it and pointed, with a huge grin on his face, then ran over to tell Mick. Then Mick pointed it out to John and John waved over at blackcat.

After the band had exited, one of the roadies came out looking for the person with the John McVie sign. blackcat said it was her sign and the roadie asked to see it. She handed it to him and he said that John wanted the sign and he would trade her for some guitar picks. blackcat thought this was a fair trade, so she is now the proud owner of the guitar picks of John McVie, Carlos Rios and Neale Heywood. :)

A fan tried to get blackcat to give him the picks, saying he had been a fan "for 20 years". Sorry guy, not happenin'.

So just to clarify - the Beach Boys wrote that about John McVie?

Blackcat rules for having love for Short Shorts Johnny.

Sarah said so!

Haha Sarah, you have 420 posts! ;)

I think Patti's friend blackcat had the sign because John McVie likes to sail and his name is John and Lindsey (maybe other members) are/were friends with the Beach Boys (Lindsey's hero is Brian, Chris dated Dennis, etc.).

A few things connected between FM and that song! :)

Thanks for the info :) I was like wtf??? Makes sense now though:)

Actually...

I can see why you assumed the sign said "John B Sail". What it actually said was "John McVie" with a smiley face. blackcat, in her review of her experiences at the Philly show, refers to that sign as the John B. Sail.

Pretty amazing that particular sign made it all the way from Philly to CA before being confiscated by the man himself, no? :)

It was truly great fun to see Lindsey light up on the stage and get such a kick out of some recognition for his bandmate. It was doubly cool to see John get such a kick out of it!!!!

John and his shorts rock! :)

Wait, so it didn't say John B. Sail? It said John McVie :) ?

I wasn't there, obviously, but I would like to know what the letters looked like, because I'm trying to wonder how John McVie :) could look like John B. Sail....

I saw that too! I couldn't quite read the sign from the back, but I knew it said something about John. The first thing I noticed was how much of a kick Lindsey got out of it, and then his attempts to get John's attention. Mick's and John's responses when they finally saw it were great!

What a great story.

If I'd known that was you guys up there, I would have loved to have said hello! Was it you who got a little teary when you first got there and saw how close your seats were? I saw a woman laughing through tears at her GREAT seat and I thought it was really lovely.

I nominate Les as Most Observant Ledgie.

Patti 07-21-2003 10:21 AM

Wow Les...

You really ARE observant AND clairvoyant! Yes that was me crying like a sap when I saw we were sitting right in front of the gap where Lindsey comes down during GYOW. I had a goal that night, to play Lindsey's guitar, and when I saw where our seats were, at that moment I knew it was going to happen and I flipped out!

They were indeed happy tears....and I did accomplish my goal! THAT was fun--Lindsey and I performing together for y'all! ;)

Are you going to be here in Phoenix tonight?

Patti
