THE DANCE remastered?
 

Does anyone know if THE DANCE will be remastered and reissued in Rhino's ongoing plans to update the Mac catalog??

I would like to see THE DANCE disc expanded into two to include everything left off the original CD, like "Gold Dust Woman", "Go Insane", etc.

Secondly, were any other songs rehearsed for THE DANCE tour that didn't make the set list?

There were other songs rehearsed that didn't make it. 3 new ones: "Where Were You", "Forbidden", and "Shadows of Love".

Plus "Twisted", "Brown Eyes", and "Little Lies" were also rehearsed.

This is according the the book "Fletwood Mac: The complete recording sessions. 1967-1997" by Peter Lewry.

Of the new songs, "Shadows of Love" is listed as being written by Stevie. The other two are "unknown" probably one Lindsey, and one Christine.

I have that book and was told that this information was not credible. I think if they actually existed we would have them by now.

They rehearsed Little Lies in Hartford, but dropped it. I remember it specifically because I had read an article in the Hartford Courant about them rehearsing in Hartford for a few days before opening night and Stevie had mentioned Little Lies. However, it wasn't meant to be. They couldn't pull it off well enough live, she said. :(

Well, I have to agree there if it sounded anything like the TITN live version on VHS, which I have always not liked because the three part echo thing in "tell me lies" sounded unprofessional IMO. Having said that, I like the song and wish they could have gotten it together enough to sing it.

Note: it is this kind of, IMO, lack of discipline that drives me nuts about FM. Another example of this is SN not wanting to open the TISL live set with Bella Donna because it was "too hard" yet in the current tour she nails Beautiful child which has somewhat similar harmonies. I mean PUUULLEEEEZZE :rolleyes:

The information on the 'Dance' rehearsal setlist, that was published in Lewry's book, was taken from what a fan posted on the internet back in 1997.

He stated that he attended one of the rehearsals, and even snagged one of the setlist "cheat-sheets" off the floor (the ones the band glances down at sometimes, if they can't remember which song is next).

So basically the info on the rehearsal setlist, and those "new songs," is only as credible/reliable as whomever posted it... so it may be one of those things that everyone should just take with a grain of salt.

The thing that bothers me about FM (hey maybe I should post that under the pet peeves thread, haha) is that while they are great songwriters and musicians, they do not take care of their voices. Besides her work with Robin in the late 70's, Stevie hadn't taken a voice lesson until the period after Street Angel. She always just belted things out--any singer knows that is bad. You need to warm up your cords just like you would your body if you were a runner. She's said now that she regrets not doing more exercises and said that when she'd be sounding so bad, it was because she was screaming out the notes, or else she couldn't sing at all. This is horrible! Lindsey--same thing--people are saying his vocals are getting weaker as the tour progresses. They can do great harmonies, only they have to really practice hard. That is what I love most about singing--working really hard to nail a harmony and then getting it and it's like WHOA, I did it and it sounds great!

Well, I/we suggested to Rhino that they do this with "The dance" CD but don't know if they will or not (as that would push it to 2 CD's and unless they have more material than we think from the "Dance tapes" so to speak then I don't think they would but who knows, here's hoping though). :) I think we were lucky to get the info out of them that they would be doing "all the WB/Reprise FM albums at some point starting with the BN era ones" so I guess we can draw our own conclusions from that as to which ones will come after "Tusk", "Rumours" & FM (1975). Hope that's of some help. :)

Let's not forget that Rhino's doing the Buckingham Nicks album, too; in this round of remasters.

Just wondering... other than a couple mentions in the British press, has anyone been able to confirm the CD release of 'Buckingham Nicks' this year?

It seems like it's a certainty, but I sure would love to have some "official" word, before I go and get all excited. :)

Well, I think "Record collector" (UK mag) did state that BN was to also be on Rhino but I'm not sure if they were just taking a liberty there or not.

It would make sense if it was Rhino since it seems to always be shifting to the "new release date" for the first 3 FM remasters but I haven't heard any US source state these things (about the BN one).

Though I don't want to get over excited about it either, I keep telling myself that I've yet to come across a CD Rhino ONLY released OUTSIDE of the US and NOT released IN the US so by process of elimination, it looks good for it being on Rhino though I do agree that it would be good to get an official US word on this but with any luck we'll find out for sure come October and if nothing else, at least we know we can get it as a UK import if all else fails when this all does come to pass. :)
