Review for Indy!

I was fortunate enough to score FRONT ROW for the Indy show, and WHAT A NIGHT! I went with Darlene (Dardragon). We got to run up front and be RIGHT UP against the stage. Darlene got in front of Stevie and I got in front Lindsey. I mean RIGHT in front. Literally at his feet (I was in an open space between speakers so there was nothing in between Lindsey and me.) Same for Darlene and Stevie.

You'd think that since I was THAT close that Lindsey would have looked at me the whole time - at least that was my dream! But there was blond girl on the other side of the guy next to me that he looked at most of the time and sang Come to! :: jealous!! :: HOWEVER, he did meet my eyes and smile at me three times, AND I got his autograph!

I also got to strum his guitar and do a little thigh touching, lol, because he crouched in the opening on the other side of mine. Now, as for Darlene - he crouched RIGHT In front of her face. Like, I mean, she had the straight view of EVERYTHING! She put her hand on Lindsey's knee and then moved it up a bit to touch inner thigh - she also got sweated on, lol!

Being at Lindsey's feet, I got to see everything on him - including the wallet in his back pants pocket (actually, Darlene saw that. We're like "Why does he need a wallet ONSTAGE?! Gonna buy a souvenir keychain during Mick's drum solo?!")

Like I said, he sang "Come" to the girl next to me - I did get his looks during "Goodbye Baby" at the end, so I got happy. But I was REALLY REALLY happy to get his autograph on my SYW booklet!! So, I didn't get Darlene's full frontal crouch, but I got autograph, so I'm cool. Jealous, but cool.

Stevie was ON FIRE. She ROCKED HARD. She tore apart "Rhiannon" - grabbing that mic and dancing and howling and adding all those neat extras we like - "Taken by the wind and by the sky!" During "Stand Back" she twirled 19 times, according to the girl standing near me (hi if you're reading this!) and Lindsey watched her twirling with a big smile on his face. GDW was its usual awesome experience, with Stevie dancing and once again Lindsey watching her. Lindsey likes to watch Stevie dance, lol. She also made cute hand motions during "Eyes of the World" and danced during a lot of Lindsey's acoustic solos like on "Peacekeeper." Also, during "Peacekeeper," when Lindsey would sing "only kill," Stevie would dramatically fling her streamers down. Nice touch, lol.

As for Lindsey, we all know great he is onstage. Being so close for ISA was so intense I couldn't believe it. That solo - how could anyone not rock out to that?! There is NOTHING like that song. NOTHING. Unfortunately for me, he sang it over in Darlene's area, so I didn't get a FULL view, but I got a three-quarter view. And it was still a pleasure to watch ;)

His playing was magnificent as always. The crowd adored him and everyone was yelling "YAY! LINDSEY! YOU ROCK!" etc. I yelled "YOU GO LINDSEY! YOU GO!" and I think he heard me after ISA, but he could have just been smiling at all the adulation in general. Maybe he couldn't hear me over the roar. I like to believe otherwise, though, lol.

As for the interaction, Stevie and Lindsey were really into it, and when they get really into those songs, they start getting into singing it to each other. A lot of times, they would look and each other and smile in a special way, like they were sharing a private joke that we weren't in on! For instance, during SHN, he turned to her and pretty much sang it at her - "I know I got nothing on you, I know there's nothing to do...when times go bad, when times go rough, won't you lay me down in the tall grass and let me do my stuff" and there was just that "secret joke" look the whole time.

Lindsey was more into "Say You Will" than I've seen him before. Stevie and he sang the whole last verse facing each other and he beat his chest. Again, just really into it. The whole night was so intense!

"Say Goodbye" was the lovely moment it always seems to be now. It amazes me that the emotions are still so real when they sing - you'd think it would get old. How do they relive it every night? It must be so hard!

During "Landslide," Stevie went up behind Lindsey and pressed against him, putting her head on his shoulder. He leaned his head back and closed his eyes, smiling. Afterwards, they did a sidehug and no kiss, but they spoke to each other and laughed, as if to say "Should we or shouldn't we?" I think they like keeping us in suspense. Afterwards, Lindsey gave his practiced speech on the importance of spontaneity (haha) to introduce WTWCT, and perhaps the implication is that they are being spontaneous on "Landslide" now. It's all good!

"Silver Springs" was, well, INTENSE (I'm trying to think of other descriptors for variety but having trouble at 2:00am). They were singing it to each other and she was yelling and he was bowing in that way he has and singing back at her and it was AWESOME. Totally rocking! Best version I've heard in the three shows I've gone to. She just blasted it!

"Tusk" was interesting, as usual, lol. He circled her again, and it was obvious they were both having a good time with it. She didn't just take it this time, though! When she turned and he came up behind her, he put his hand on her shoulder - and she grabbed it and held onto it! So he wound up against her longer than he probably expected because she didn't let go and started walking and dragging him behind her! He was grinning and once he realized what she was doing, rushed up to rub against her some more in that way he does, lol.

Vocally and musically they were almost flawless. Lindsey had to rest a little bit playing Gypsy after the grueling "Come" performance that left us all speechless, and so he kind of lost his place in there a couple times. It was pretty much not noticeable unless you were right there and watching him. The man was in need of some down time, poor guy. But by the time the song's guitar solo came around, he was back to his explosive, totally energetic self.

"Goodybe Baby" was as emotional as ever - since this was when Lindsey finally gave me some attention, I wasn't as into Stevie singing the song as usual! Darlene was watching Stevie, though, and could tell that Stevie was once again into her song and feeling it. She looked moved by what she was singing. I love that they still put themselves into their songs like that and just don't spout out the words mechanically, even after all these years.

It was Mick's birthday, and a few guys hollered "HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICK" at him when he came out for WTWCT. Lindsey heard them and said "Yeah, that's right. It IS Mick's birthday today," Stevie then let us know he was 56 and not 61, as someone had said [?]. I thought he was 61, so I was like "Uh-huh,right!" and I think Lindsey might have heard because he turned to Mick and said "I guess they believe the computers."

Right now, both Darlene and I are going to go to bed and hopefully we will have some concert-contact-inspired dreams, lol. WHAT A NIGHT, is all we can say!!!!!!!!!

And there we have it. They ARE aware of what's being said on the computers, apparently. (The board isn't letting me do smilies for some reason, but I'm trying to raise an eyebrow.)

You have me so psyched for Dallas. Stevie did not dance as much as you describe when she was in Philly.

Of course, you and Darlene touch Lindsey's inner thigh, you get some sweat and an autograph.
If I try that on Stevie, I'll probably get a platformed kick in the you-know-what, and a reminder that if I f*** with her leg, her people will f*** with me.
Doesn't seem fair.
Not that I'll be in the front row, anyway.
Besides, Stevie would be horrified to sweat on a fan. (There are three nevers in being the Queen of Rock and Roll. Never cut your hair short. Never stop writing about the ex you share the stage with. And above all, never, never let them see you sweat. Dry Idea works for me.) Will fans outside America get this reference?

Your mention of the wallet reminds me of the thread about what he keeps in there.

Glad you had such an amazing time. Will you be able to sleep afterwards?

What a great review - I am jealous!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wan't it great on the front row? It is almost just too intense - like your going to explode or something

Congrats on the thigh touching!!!!!!!!

I'm still awe of last night. I was with SodaScouts in the front row! I was so close to Stevie I could count her eyelashes. Linsdsey was so close to me when he crouched down in front of me during Go Your Own Way I didn't even have to extend my arms to touch him or his guitar!! I got sweat dripped on me too:D Stevie looks so much thinner than pictures give her credit for. Her waist is so tiny. She was so full of energy! The interaction between the two of them was awesome. The smiles and tender glances never stopped all night. I'll go ahead and post this I 've lost it twice because the server was busy. There's alot more I can say. Darlene

Congratulations on the great tickets! Thanks for the review!

Indy ROCKED. Period.

My friend and I were listening to a CD of the Buffalo show we went to on the long drive out here from PA (I'm typing this before we leave Columbus for home) - I asked him if he wanted a copy, and he said "yeah, unless the Indy show tops it."

No contest. Stevie belting out the songs, Lindsey playing his *** off, John/Mick as solid as ever. WOW.

Great review, soda! (BTW, I was four rows behind you. Am I ever jealous. Turns out fifteen feet from Lindsey STILL isn't close enough for me...... ;) ) After we got back to the car, I looked at my friend and said "That was worth every penny we spent, worth the vacation time we had to use, worth the nine-hour drive out here. His reply? "OH yeah."

If anyone "got" this show, I want it. Bad. PM me with details.

Great Review!! Just curious...did you score the front row when they went on sale or just a few days before?? I'm trying to get the best tickets possible! Thanks.

EnchantedStorms 06-25-2003 01:05 PM

lol, There isn't a *whole* lot more that I can say that Nancy and Dar haven't already. BTW, I looked for you two but couldn't find you, lol. I went with my husband this time and we got there early enough that we were able to hear part of the soundcheck, which was cool. Heard part of Dreams and Say You Will then my husband decided he had to have something to drink and pulled me outta there. Then they wouldn't let us back in. :( :D It wasn't SO bad, though, because there was a live band across the street that actually didn't do too terrible of a job with Landslide and Stop Draggin' My Heart Around. lol.

Started out, I wasn't very excited about even going to this show because I had a terrible seat...thanks to the fanclub... But I felt guilty for spending so much money on tickets this time around that I was just gonna live with it. lol. But, since my husband decided to go, he needed a ticket and he refused to sit by himself...soooo...hehehe, we went and talked to one of those dudes that stand out in front of the place... :D and ended up with two sixth row tix for less than what it would've cost us thru Ticketmaster. Guess he was afraid he wasn't gonna sell 'em, I dunno.

The crowd as a whole was great....but, the people sitting around me were TERRIBLE though. I'm five foot nothing if I'm lucky, and the two right in front of me were like, eight feet tall...yes, I know, that's not their fault...but...ALL they did was talk, laugh, and swallow each other's faces RIGHT IN MY LINE OF VIEW. Had to duck my head to see under their chins. Lucky for me they left during Stand Back and didn't come back until Goodbye Baby was just starting. And the woman next to me...LOL...was silent the whole night...UNTIL, get this, Mick did his African bongo dance crap. Then she was all, OMG! Look at him! Woo Hoooo!

Nancy's recap of the songs were pretty much right on, so I won't go into all that again. Other than to say that even though I had wished they weren't doing SB, I'm so glad they did. It just ROCKED. Stevie was so into it, and so was the crowd.

GREAT show!

GREAT review, thanks! Strand is right about that front-row thing. It's fantastic and yet at the same time, it's almost TOO good...it's so surreal...I always forget to look at John! LOL I promised myself that I WILL look at John more and remember to look at Stevie when she does her "eyes thing" during EOTW. Glad you had a blast!!

Just the week before.

sara1998 06-26-2003 02:24 AM

Had good seats, but not as good as Nancy and Darlene's! haha!

My friend and I got to our seats, we sat and talked for about 10 minutes, and there are 2 young girls sitting next to us. I really didn't pay too much attention, to be honest, however, it turned out to be another Ledgie that I've met before during TISL tour. What a coincidence! We did have a great time, however, I will have to get better tix to the next show!

Cincinnati, maybe???;)

Maria

Congrats to Nancy and Darlene on the great tix!

Lydia S 06-27-2003 12:06 AM

Well I turned out to be that other Ledgie that Maria talks about in her post!!. It was just such a strange happening... the two of us sitting right next to each other out of all the seats in the house...:). It was quite amazing though. I can honestly say I was in awe the entire night .

BTW... Fantastic review, Nancy!! :) Thank you!

Lydia:wavey:
