What Esteemed or Hugely Popular Films Do You Hate?

I hate AMADEUS, that Oscar-winning crowd-pleaser with Tom Hulce & Murray Abraham.

That movie is very patronizing (no pun intended) about an extraordinary time & many extraordinary people, Mozart included. I guess the Enlightenment & all its achievements didn't impress Forman.

It was all a pretty facile piece of puncturing, & not very enjoyable. It might have been fun had it been lowbrow rather than middlebrow, but the music & art were treated in a smugly philistine way.

A Beautiful Mind: Schizophrenia is like a fun fantasy world, tee hee! Prettied-up nonsense.

The Untouchables: wallows in gore Friday the 13th style, or maybe something like Alien vs. Predator, except with the police against Al Capone. Basically, the focus is on lots and lots of violence, with no core beliefs to make it seem important. The protagonists are enforcing prohibition, but the whole thing is treated like a joke, with the good guys stealing a swig of alcohol when they get the chance, hardy har har.

The English Patient -- talk about a snoozer

Chariots of Fire

Vangelis was the composer - beautiful IMO, but lots of synth tripe in it.

I hate Blazing Saddles...enough said.
Probably will get my buns kicked by many, but I still hate that film.

I love the old Star Wars alright. The new ones...tripe.

Harry Potter movies...yeah, they aren't that good. They are entertaining, but they could and should be much better.

I hated Superman Returns.

X-Men 3 stunk.

I remember Independence Day (with Will Smith) being huge for some reason. It's awful!

I dislike the Shrek movies. I find them really annoying. But, I like Mike Myers.

The Narnia movies suck. I love the books. *sigh*

The Star Trek films - a complete yawn!
Ghostbusters:)
Anything with Arnold Schwarzenegger in it.
Anything with 'talking' animals - cats, dogs, horses.
But the worst (I think) was the one where John Wayne played Genghis Khan - terrible.

Gypsy-Rhiannon 06-02-2008 03:44 PM

I've never been in into any of the Star Wars films

Was there one?

Anyway I hate Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan, thought they were completely trite.

Sahara 06-02-2008 05:37 PM

Lord of the Rings. *ducks for cover*

jannieC 06-02-2008 07:28 PM

Gone With the Wind

Pirates of the Caribbean (couldn't even get through 1/4 of it)

Any of the Die Hard films

I'm sure there are plenty more I'm not thinking of. I'm frequently disappointed by movies which is why I seldom go to the theater.
