Favorite top hit
(couldn't fix the previos thread, forgot to set it as a poll).
According to Billboard these were the Fleetwood Mac top hits. Which one is your favorite? Dreams Peaked at #1 on 6.17.1977 Don't Stop Peaked at #3 on 9.23.1977 Little Lies Peaked at #4 on 11.7.1987 Hold Me Peaked at #4 on 7.23.1982 Big Love Peaked at #5 on 5.29.1987 Sara Peaked at #7 on 2.2.1980 Tusk Peaked at #8 on 11.3.1979 You Make Loving Fun Peaked at #9 on 12.17.1977 Go Your Own Way Peaked at #10 on 3.12.1977 Say You Love Me Peaked at #11 on 9.17.1976 |

No, Macfan4life, THAT #2 song is Oh Daddy.:wavey::lol::lol::lol::wavey: EDIT - you know what? I've been thinking a lot about it....I didn't mind Oh Daddy very much, until Mick claimed it was about him(TWENTY YEARS after it was released). I think that permanently tainted it for me. |
I had enormous trouble choosing from Go Your Own Way, Dreams, You Make Loving Fun, and Tusk. But confronting trouble is what makes us stronger, they say, so I voted for GYOW.
|
I voted for Sara, it used to send goose bumps down my spine.
And I still love it. |
The poll limit is 10 choices, but I found these charts also.
Rhiannon Peaked at #11 on 6.4.1976 Gypsy Peaked at #12 on 10.22.1982 Everywhere Peaked at #14 on 2.6.1988 Another interesting info is Fleetwood Mac’s Top 10 most downloaded tracks. This is kind of a chart in this century: 1 GO YOUR OWN WAY 2 THE CHAIN 3 EVERYWHERE 4 LITTLE LIES 5 DREAMS 6 ALBATROSS 7 LANDSLIDE 8 DON'T STOP 9 BIG LOVE 10 SONGBIRD Source: https://www.officialcharts.com/chart...-tracks__2751/ |
Hold Me is the best pop hit but its not my favorite pop hit. Does that make sense? I like Go Your Own Way. Its a break up song compared to the loveable Hold Me. Its also sort of a rock anthem that is played on classic rock stations every day. As big as a hit Hold Me was, its not played as much as Go Your Own Way.
I think You Make Loving Fun is a close second and they are polished gems off Rumours. Dreams is a great hit too. I've heard it way too much but I know that its brilliant. Btw Homer. Oh Daddy is not a pop hit. Its not the best lyrics or singing but definitely has the best musical track other than Why by the band. Its a fact Jack. Can you dig it? I knew that you could. |

Don't break that spell
Ye old dirge Sara is in a class of its own and is my favorite song per se in that list, but YMLF is the song that first got me into Fleetwood Mac and remains a groovy, magical favorite to this day. It ticks every box and doesn't have a fault; it's unusual "chorus-less" structure only enhances it's effectiveness and replayability. I think it is the FM song in highest rotation on radio stations here, followed only by SYLM/GYOW/Don't Stop.

I'm tired of Don't Stop, and I'm tired of Dreams. I never tire of GYOW or YMLF. |
YMLF is my favorite hit. Mostly because I don't tire of it. It has so many elements that I love about the band.
Hold Me is the same way, I don't tire from it. It's delicious like a good red wine. Sara used to give me goose bumps, but I think I've worn it out. Sometimes it does touch me, then other times... it's just boring. Rhiannon live will always be my golden child. Studio has worn me out. :( Don't Stop came back to me when Christine came back. It sounded fresh again. Go Your Own Way is just solid FMAC. Love it. Think About Me is fantastic. Just solid goodness. |
All great songs- but You Make Loving Fun-Christine's best pop song and I always turn it up when it comes on. Just perfect in every way, I agree with Homer on the alt version with the different lyrics which I think they used live for a time.
