I watch Sleeping with the Enemy the other night! Oh my, the scene where the husband gets the call from the lady from the YMCA had me screaming. Such a good movie :nod:

I still can't believe I've never seen this when Charlie Kaufman is potentially my favorite screenwriter/director of all time... next to Woody Allen, of course.

Oh, I forgot I saw Alice and Wonderland last night. I LOVED IT :)

The September Issue I'll watch a documentary on anything... and this is proof! :laugh: This film follows the creation of the largest magazine ever published... the September issue of Vogue. I've never, ever been into fashion (anyone here who's seen pictures of me can verify that! :laugh:), but after being handcuffed and forced to watch The Devil Wears Prada, I at least had newfound respect for it. The documentary is worth watching for Anna Wintour's (Editor of Vogue) opening dialogue alone. She says some surprisingly spot-on and sobering things just within the first 3 minutes. Between those two films, I at least finally get why fashion is important, and how it affects absolutely everybody who buys clothing, period. It's also very interesting seeing all the faces of who are responsible for fashion... actually seems to be a pretty small group of people, and a good deal don't look how I'd expected them to (for instance, there are a lot of older people in the fashion world, a lot who don't dress fashionably themselves, etc). If you are me and just like documentaries, period, you'll enjoy this one... it's done exceedingly well, is very well paced, it's revealing, educating, and fun. :thumbsup:

I watched "Closer" last night. It had Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Clive Owens, and Natalie Portman in it. Very interesting movie.

Very creepy film! Released in 2008 I think, but it looks like it was made in the late 70s or early 80s! Super creepy film! Check it out!

Sorry ILoveFM (Sara, haha) -- I wasn't a fan of Eternal Sunshine. I don't know, maybe I'd like it better if I watched it a second time.

I loved Julie & Julia! So cute.

Gosford Park: I originally saw this one when it first came out about 10 years ago, and turned it off after an hour and a half of NOTHING happening other than a bunch of snooty people mumbling unintelligibly about one another. I definitely like it more now that I'm older... somehow at 19 I didn't appreciate subtleties :p. And it doesn't hurt I now have surround sound so I can actually hear the veiled insults which are endlessly cast back and forth. Maggie Smith is the only thing really worth watching this one for in my opinion... she was impossibly aloof, and brilliant. I still think with more development, this could have been a wholly better picture.

Brideshead Revisited: Seems I'm watching a lot of English period films lately. This one was exceptional... it finishes so far off from where it starts, ends up having a wholly different message than you'd ever guess. Beautiful film, in every sense. Very profound, and thought provoking. Definitely one of the best films I've seen in quite some time.

'Coast To Coast'- Judy Davis and Richard Dreyfuss, both very good, I liked the movie, which originally aired on Showtime maybe 6 years ago. Good acting, good dialogue, very talky, very good. A brief documentary of the making of the movie is very brief, and notable because supporting actress Selma Blair twice misuses the word dysfunctional-- the first time she notes the 'dafunction' of the family, the second time she talks about how as an actor, it is more interesting to portray a 'dafunctional' character. I was shocked. I was born in the Czech Republic and had my share of blunders speaking, years ago, what's her excuse? She's very good as the daughter, though. Sinks her teeth right into the 'dafunction'. ( I like Judy Davis a lot, she still seems a 'tad' on her Judy Garland trip in this role, a remark also noted when she played Nancy Reagan in a movie soon after her Garland performance. Whatever, she's highly watchable and comes across as an intelligent, master-class actor).
'Without Love'- Tracy and Hepburn with a terrific Lucille Ball in a small role that should have been larger. She plays Hepburn's friend. In one scene, Kate takes a phone call, walks outside, gets into her car and drives away, leaving her good friend alone by a back kitchen door, without so much as a goodbye, a funny continuity flub. Ball shows up about 45 minutes later in the film for a couple of other small scenes, with Keenan Wynne, who is very good. I'm not familiar with his other films, but know the 'name', he had a good presence and I'd be curious to see his other work. Considered one of Tracy & Hepburn's weaker collaborations, 'Without Love' still has plenty of great dialogue and the leads are excellent, Hepburn has a speech early on about the death of her husband that is an acting wonder, lovely but romanticized, showing whimsy, joy, sadness and finally fury at Tracy's cruel remark about her hanging onto a ghost. I think even those who may not like Kate would have to find her performance in that scene simply amazing, it displays such range. Historically, she has, at times, been over-rated, but man, she had technique, great acting. Now, I finally also appreciate the artistry of Tracy, it took me a long time. 'Without Love' is from a Hepburn box set currently half-price at Amazon, the only other film I've watched from it this week was 'Undercurrent'- directed by Vincente Minnelli, who had such stylized (gorgeous) sets and attention to detail, technically, in all of his films. There's always as much to watch around and behind the actors in his films, he knew how to 'dress' a scene, a set, a film. 'Undercurrent', however, quite stinks. Hepburn's one trip into film noir, released in 1946, it can't compare to film noir classics like 'Double Indemnity' or 'The Postman Rings Twice', both of which are great. 'Undercurrent' is just pretty lame.

I've been wanting to watch this. I heard it was great-- what didn't you like about it?




Everybody, find a way to see A Single Man. I don't know if I mentioned it on here already but seriously, that was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.

The Runaways was really good as well.

I didn't care for the actor (Lluis Homar) who played Harry Caine.
Plus I'd read good things about the movie, so I was probably guilty
of high expectations. Ms. Cruz sure lights up the screen though.

I just rewatched the 1978 version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" starring Donald Sutherland. First saw it when I was around 13 or so.

It also had Leonard Nimoy in it, as well as Jeff Goldblum in his first movie role. (Or at least an extremely early one.)

I like this version better than the Nicolle Kidman version. It's very well done, i.m.o.

By the way if anyone's curious about it, it's based on a novel from 1955 called The Body Snatchers by someone named Jack Finney. The original film was released in 1956 and starred someone named Kevin McCarthy. There's many interpretations of the story, for example a warning about the spread of Communism; but also it could be about the anti-Communist paranoia that was going on back then. ("Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party"; the "blacklisting" of supposed Communists in Hollywood, etc.)

i will say that if some other actress besides Miley had played the main character, Ronnie, it would have easily made it my favorite movie. The most i've ever cried in a theater before..i recommend it!

I watched The Blind Side, all but the last 45 minutes because I fell asleep on the floor. A great movie really but I must've been tired after being up all that day so I need to finish watching it. I was thinking blonde hair wasn't working on Sandra Bullock. She reminded me of Britney Spears' mother or something. I don't know. Others said Kathie Lee.

This is classic! Great movie! Very scary!

How To Train Your Dragon-What a great movie!!! Kid's movies are the only movies I actually pay to go see at the theater anymore. This is such a great movie, it completely stomps Where The Wild Things Are. I took my little brother and got so into the storyline and characters that I wanted to watch it again haha :o. I would definitely recommend seeing this because I truly thought it was incredible, it is such a tear jerker and that is saying a lot coming from someone who hasn't cried in a long time.

We're probably going to go see that on Easter Sunday in Imax and 3-D. . . . . . :)

Just got around to watching Sherlock Holmes. Maybe because I've had no previous interest in the man before the movie was made but I found it reaaally boring.

Just got back from the Clash of the Titans remake, which was pretty much like the original, except no puppets, and therefore not as good. A lot of acting going on in that film. A. Lot. Of. Acting.

Introducing friend to foreign horror, so we watched Takashi Miike's Masters of Horror offering, "Imprint." Miike is a delight, as always. Also watched The Descent, which ranks as one of my all-time fav horror films.

Actually, there were no puppets used in the 1981 version of Clash of The Titans, it was all stop motion animation and it was the last feature film for which Ray Harryhausen created the special effects for. It should also be noted here on The Ledge, that Mick Fleetwood's sister, Susan Fleetwood, played the role of Athena in the film.

Just watch Public Enemies on blu-ray. Pretty good film.

I just watched the black balloon. It is such a powerful and intense movie. It's the story of this family in Australia, there are the parents (the mother is pregnant at the beginning), Charlie is one of their sons who is autistic, and then there is Thomas who is the main character. I laughed and cried and yelled. It is so worth seeing :nod:

"The Census Taker" is on MGM HD right now. Very bizarre and unsettling.

I spent the weekend sniffling on the couch - yay spring cold! I watched Whip It yesterday - exactly the kind of movie I should've loved but I was meh about it. Wondering if it was the movie itself or just my mood.

There Will Be Blood
Again. This is becoming one

Loved it. Jeff Bridges most definitely deserved his Oscar for this one. Great performance, great music.

I watched Vanity Fair in thirteen parts on Youtube. I was only really in it for Gabriel Byrne :xoxo: but I did really enjoy it. Reese Witherspoon is fantastic in everything.

Also, rewatched Funny Face to relax after a week of exams. It was bliss. :D
