Blu-ray

Hugo
Eh....didn't really grab me as I thought it would. Friends thought I'd love it, but alas, no.

The Muppets
Loved it! I even laughed out loud a few times, which I rarely do when watching something alone.

Young Sherlock Holmes
I never tire of this movie.

It's like... I don't even know you anymore! ;)

Fozzie's voice just isn't right.
Though Kermit's sounds close.

On a positive note, I did like
Walter.

iamnotafraid 03-28-2012 12:34 AM

Melancholia
This Kirsten Dunst movie looked like it would
be interesting. And there are parts in the movie
where the imagery live up to that. But it fails in
the end.

The Rebound
Catherine Zeta-Jones is just not enough to get
through this entire movie. I usually can make
myself sit through most any movie, but not this
one. Horrible.

London Boulevard
Staring Colin Farrell and Keira Knightley turned out
to be pretty good. An ex-con that just can't seem to
break away from his past.

Eric Clapton - One More Car, One More Rider
Wow, what a great concert. Of course the db level was at
concert level in my living room (DTS). I needed some musical
inspiration, and that hit the spot. Rent or buy this disc.

Richard B 03-31-2012 09:30 AM

Final Destination 5 - I just can't help myself. Trash, but really fun trash. Better than the last one.

Paul - Dorky film, but I kinda liked it.

CADreaming 03-31-2012 09:32 AM

Tried to watch The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but could not get through it. Too dark.

wild-heart 04-01-2012 04:40 PM

Stage Fright- Marlene Dietrich (whom I adore) and Alfred Hitchcock, what more could anyone ask for. Loved it.

Brief Encounter- I think I watched this at the same time last week lol. Love it, Celia Johnson has one of the most beautiful faces I have ever seen. She has a quirky smile which I love. Love it.

Manhattan. I never really had much exposure to Allen growing up, so I'm only know watching all of his back-catalogue. I can appreciate the style, the dialogue, the cleverness of it all...but sometimes I do find him to be really irritating.

I usually don't care for his movies, but
Midnight In Paris was pretty decent.
I wish he would have chosen a different
actor for the lead role though.

iamnotafraid 04-06-2012 02:24 AM

Miss Bala
Shouldn't it be titled Miss Baja? Anyway,
a movie that's thoroughly depressing. A
woman gets caught up (used) in the Mexican
American drug war. I think the movie claimed
over 30,000 people have been killed in the last
six years. But we all wear our blinders on this
subject it seems. What a crazy world we live in.

mylittledemon 04-06-2012 06:07 AM

I finally saw The Hunger Games. I have to say I wasn't really impressed. I felt like I was watching The Running Man, but with teenagers. Hmpf. The performances weren't too bad. The movie just wasn't great. Not bad either. 7/10, tops.

I"ll be renting that one when it comes out.

iamnotafraid 04-09-2012 06:00 PM

Bride Flight
This foreign film was surprisingly good. Actually one
of the best films I've seen in this past year. It's mostly
in Dutch (with my family tree, I should speak it) and a
little English. Three women from Holland, I guess you
would call them bride-to-be's meet this man (a farmer)
who are all emigrating to New Zealand. Their lives become
intertwined during that flight. I would say more, but I don't
want to give anything away. Definitely worth renting!!!

Bridesmaids
Funny and horrible.

Take Shelter
Michael Shannon and Katy Mixon. The preview looked
good. But the movie was a fail.

X-Men First Class
Why did I even try? Boring.

Cowboys And Aliens
It was what I expected it to be. A terrible waste of my
time.

iamnotafraid 04-11-2012 11:29 PM

The Iron Lady
I sure thought this would be a better movie.
Meryl Streep looks and talks like Margaret
Thatcher, but that's not enough to make it a
good movie. Talking to her dead husband
and lurking around halls, I'd say her story
deserves better than this.

The Descendants
Another disappointment. A very depressing
watch. Yes, more shots of the sick comatose
woman.

Frozen
I might put off my skiing trip again after seeing
this. Frostbite, broken bones and wolves oh my!

mylittledemon 04-11-2012 11:54 PM

Superman (1978) with Christopher Reeve. At one point my wife looked at me and she said, "He really was Superman, wasn't he?"

I agree with the Iron Lady. I thought i'd love it, I love Meryl Streep and Thatcher fascinates me but I hated how they made her out to be. She is and was more than her husband, she is more than her old age. I just wish they had concentrated on her career a lot more instead of showing her as a frail old lady who can't really look after herself and misses her husband. Love of hate Thatcher she deserved more than that.

iamnotafraid 04-20-2012 02:18 AM

The Darkest Hour
Really bad, I mean really bad.

From The Basement
Thought this would be much better.
Worth renting only to see The White Stripes.

Janie Jones
A rocker finds out from a groupie that he has
a 13 year old daughter. Pretty decent movie
overall.

Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol
I was actually enjoying this Tom Cruise movie until
the flying man appeared. I'm confused, are these
agents Jedi's? The sound was spectacular though. It's
worth renting if you don't think too much.

J. Edgar
An interesting movie. How much better would these
types of movies be if you could believe everything
that's in them? DeCaprio didn't really look like J. Edgar
until the very last shot.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
Boring.

johnb84 04-24-2012 03:39 PM

Immortals

The effects were very 300ish, which I liked, but the story was S L O W.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

OK. Paula Patton was the best part of the entire movie.

KarmaContestant 04-25-2012 10:23 AM

I finally saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes - loved it. I like movies where the aliens/monsters/Earth/apes totally pwn the stupid, frivolously materialistic and petty humans.

cliffdweller 04-25-2012 12:03 PM

Has anyone seen The Cabin in the Woods? I've heard mixed things.

mylittledemon 04-25-2012 04:27 PM

I just saw THE AVENGERS last night. Superb film. 9/10. One of the best superhero/comic book movies ever.

iamnotafraid 05-28-2012 11:02 PM

Kill Bill Vol. 1
Kill Bill Vol.2
Death Proof

Finally added these to my
blu ray collection.

Macfanforever 05-28-2012 11:18 PM

I like to look up Deul with Dennis Weaver which was mention earlier on the Ledge.

I remember in the early 1970's going to the movies with my sister seen Planet of the Apes the first time It was released.

KarmaContestant 05-29-2012 01:43 PM

I watched Titus yesterday.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120866/

It was really good! Even with the Shakespeare-speak.

Can't wait to see this!

As for me, I just watched the most recent version of Wuthering Heights (2011). Can't say I was impressed. Nothing but gimmicky, heavy handed camera work, obvious symbolism (Cathy's a bird in a gilded cage, duh!) and dodgy performances. Plus, even though the publicity material made a big deal about how the screenplay was lifted directly from the novel, several key scenes are either shortened considerably or missing altogether! The search goes on for a decent adaptation of one of my favourite novels. Oh well.

Richard B 05-31-2012 02:22 PM

Woman In Black (2012) - Good, but prefer the old 1989 version.

TrollHunter - Freaking loved it and had some good laughing.

And then had a Albert Brooks Double Feature:
Defending Your Life
The Muse

Tower Heist, on On Demand. We got a coupon from our cable co. for a $.99 On Demand movie, so we used it on Tower Heist. I wanted to see it when it came out, but never got around to it. I thought it was really good, very funny. I would definitely recommend it.

Lee :)

Disney Swiss Family Robinson

I remember going to the movies to see Disney's Swiss Family Robinson with my sister.

iamnotafraid 06-22-2012 02:00 AM

Didn't Lindsey Buckingham say something like
"it just reinforces my faith in cycles"?

More times than not this cycle turns up in
the movies I watch. Not on purpose, on my part
at least. Movies with the same theme, actors or
actresses. I can't tell you how many times this
happens. Coincidence? I think not. Most of my
movies are chosen by the random order Amazon
has them in on new release dates. I can't seem to
explain it. And don't get me started on deja vu.

The Night Of The Grizzly (1966)
Clint Walker stars in this movie which I probably saw back
in the 70's (re-release I'm guessing). It's a decent family
movie. And there's not many of them these days. Worth
watching. Mr. Walker was one big man. He probably could
have whipped that Grizzly bare-handed.

The Grey
Liam Neeson stars in this disappointing movie. Plane crash,
cold, wolves and more wolves. But we know this from the
previews. Yes, it's lame but it will make you jump out of your
seat a few times.

mylittledemon 06-22-2012 02:25 AM

Batman Returns
Still just as bizarre, fun, and weird as it was 20 years ago.

The Quick & the Dead
An underrated & fun-to-watch flick about justice, and vengeance. 'Sides, how can you go wrong with Gene Hackman and Sharon Stone?

Chronicle
A semi-fresh take on the whole superhero/teens-with-powers genre of late. Worth a viewing, though it's not a groundbreaking film by any means.

ButterCookie 06-22-2012 03:41 AM

Love Doris Day!

PAUL, from the guys who did Run Fat Boy Run , Shaun of the Dead and Hot FUZZ

iamnotafraid 06-24-2012 01:53 AM

The Secret World Of Arrietty
A remake of the of the fairy tale The Borrowers.
I thought this animated movie was very good.
Worth watching if you like this sort of thing.

KarmaContestant 06-24-2012 09:47 PM

Contagion.

iamnotafraid 06-27-2012 01:20 AM

Super 8
Pretty decent flick.
The sound was fantastic.

War Horse
Bit of a let down. (get it?)

ButterCookie 06-27-2012 03:54 AM

Withnail & I

iamnotafraid 07-08-2012 03:19 AM

Safe House
Mr. Denzel Washington scores again.
A good movie from one of my favorite
actors. Great sound too.

So-so psychological thriller film.
