Gotta be honest, not digging Billy’s Strat on “Dreams” and “The Chain.” It sounds much more cover band. He would have been better served with an acoustic.

I always HATED the Chain during the Rick/Billy era. Dreams was fine but The Chain was like a B list cover band. It lost all of its magic and power during this era. It got slightly better during the 1990 tour. All 4 of them singing the verses was a much better visual than audio. It looked great almost like the Eagles with everyone lined up on mic singing together. But it screamed cover band.
To their defense, they played these songs conservative because they were not their songs. Not time to put their own stamp on them let alone some licks. Rhiannon got leaps better on the 1990 tour with Rick opening the song with a little guitar solo which gave the rather robotic version of the song more life than the 1987 version.

I didn't like it either. It made me feel the chain was broken (yeah sounds cliché but I actually felt so)

Rick's "like a rock" guitar sound just did not fit the song. Thank goodness John was still there to steady the ship.

I always felt their version of Go Your Own Way during that timeframe was also really terrible. Not in a, this sounds bad, sort of way. But more, this is boring and lacks any of the emotion that the song can/should pack. Similar to The Chain, it sounded like a cover band.

Agreed that the 1990 Rhiannon far exceeds 1987. But in 1990 was also when the arrangement changed to remove the guitar solo if i'm not mistaken. Stevie could still nail some of the ending at least but the solo being removed and the jam before "Dreams unwind..." going away made the song much less impactful.

I did enjoy listening to a rehearsal of “Save Me” ...

"When The Sun Goes Down" should never have been dropped AND should have been kept in the set on the 94-95 tours (even if only Billy sang lead, though I think Dave could have done Rick's parts pretty easily). Vastly underrated song.

When The Sun Goes Down would have fit Bekka like a hand and a glove even if she didn't have lead vocals in the song. I can just imagine the energy she would have had on stage playing that song.

Bekka would have killed it! She's so soulful. 🔥

Yes
I noticed Stevie was missing with her vocals and "take good care" part at the end. She is also missing on Save me and her backing vocals and "Save Me" part at the end.

Where was Stevie!

Where was Stevie!

As Homer would say, "Who cares where that bloated dancer is!"

But I'm quoting here. :wavey:
