Joni Mitchell - Isle of Wight 1970

This is incredible and the footage is so clear. I love her banter with the audience is so amazing. This is 1970 and I was just born but what an incredible time to be alive for music. Check out 14:00 when she sings Woodstock. She missed Woodstock because of her management. She was to appear on her first TV talk show appearance on the Dick Cavett show the following day and her management feared she could not get out in time and look exhausted from the experience. So at the last minute she cancelled. But was able to write this incredible song about the experience.

Does anyone remember the guy who would impersonate Joni and sell out theaters in the 1970s and 1980s. He looked and sounded so much like Joni that even Joni commented he sounded just like her. When Joni no longer toured in the 1980s his show toured. Did anyone ever see it? What was his name?

Anyway, here is this amazing concert

His name is John Kelly, and he was still doing his (incredible) act in NYC in the early 2000s, when I saw him at the nightclub Fez. He even played his own dulcimer. Not sure whatever became of him, but here’s a profile from 2008:

In the early to mid 80s he played theaters that major recording artists would play. It was confusing to many so they had to note...its a Joni Mitchell performance, not actually Joni Mitchell. But he must of had an incredible career as Joni.
