Appreciation for SHANGHAI EXPRESS

I watched Sophia Coppola's inane & boring MARIE ANTOINETTE last night, & followed it up, thank goodness, with Sternberg's SHANGHAI EXPRESS. I consider Kirsten Dunst about as interesting as watching soup cool (clear or cream), but seeing Dietrich purring in black feathers, filmed in Sternbergian chiaroscuro, wipes Miss Dunst completely out of the mind!

One of my favorite film quotes of all time is in this one" It took more than one man to change my name to Shanghai Lily"I saw this at the Castro Theatre years ago on a double bill with The Scarlett Empress..the Von Sternberg/Dietrich films were genius.
