FM Favorite Lineups

I Know I'm in the minority here, but my favorite FM lineups are the
Then Play On and Kiln House versions of the band.

I think the full length version of the Madge session on "The Vaudeville
Years" is one of the best jams I've ever heard. You can see why Mick
thought Peter was in the Clapton-Page-Beck mold and their equal. I have
to agree he's at his very best on this track. I also love the retro-rock that
Jeremy does on Kiln House and his solo LP. With Chrissie replacing Peter the
3 part harmonies they did were great.

My holy grail of lost FM tracks is the b side of the Jeremy Spencer
single "Linda" called "Teenage Angel". This is the studio version of the
live track from the Boston Tea Party performances. Why it was left off
Jeremy's Solo LP I don't know. I have a copy of the 45 but talk about
surface noise, it's really hard to listen to.

In addition the b sides "World In Harmony" and "The Purple Dancer" are not availabe on CD in their original version that I know of. Alternate versions have appeared on some compilation CDs but as far as I know, both have only appeard on the German release LP "The Best of Fleetwood Mac", which I have a copy of, plus the original 45s, but nowhere else.

Any suggestions on where to find CD quality versions of these tracks?

Do you mean "Teenage Darling"? This is one of my favorite performances on the Tea Party set - absolutely hilarious. Does the studio version reach the same heights?

I haven't listened to Kiln House in a good long while, but it might be time to pick it up again.

As far as I know, these have never been released on CD - a shame since they're both so good. While I think some of the live versions of "World In Harmony" are better than the studio one, I don't think that's true of "The Purple Dancer" - one of my favorite early '70s tracks from the band. I keep hoping that if we ever see remastered versions of Then Play On and Kiln House, that these tracks will be added on there.

Copies of Linda / Teenage Darling pop up on eBay from time to time and aren't expensive if you want a better copy than the one you currently have :wavey:

I think that the German Greatest Hits album with Dragonfly / Purple Dancer / World In Harmony etc was briefly released on CD, but having said that, I've never seen it, even in Germany... that would be the only official CD release of the studio versions of PD or WIH.

I also prefer the Then Play On / Kiln House line-ups to any other line-ups, no contest as far as I'm concerned... anyone interested in that period should definitely check out the Madison Blues box set with the Jeremy Spencer interview disc. It's a fantastic live document of the Kiln House era, and you get 'live in the studio' versions of Purple Dancer, Station Man etc, plus Down At The Crown and Crazy About You, which are totally essential!!

Actually, my LEAST (by a long margin) favorite incarnation is the Rumours lineup.

But, that said, when it comes down to it, my favorite incarnation of Fleetwood Mac is whichever one I'm listening to at the moment.

My favorite line-ups are the 1971-1974 Welch/McVie incarnations & the Rumours line-up from 1975-1980 only. I like Fleetwood Mac best during the 1970's.

Ok, I just thought of this as it pertains to lineups. WHo exactly was in the "Fake" Fleetwood Mac and how long were they on the road as such. I'm pretty sure it was '74, just not when.
