Neil Finn featuring Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie

This sounds really good. These three voices work well together. Where is Mick And John?

SteveMacD 05-29-2020 09:07 AM

This was probably modern postal rock. Not being songwriters, Mick and John likely don’t have home recording equipment. Still, if there’s not another Fleetwood Mac album, at least we have an idea of where it might have gone.

I’d love to see a RSD release with this as the A side and Campbell’s “Lockdown” as the B side.

It's a very light radio sounding tune.
There's also another vocalist from New Zealand singing background too.
I think Christine's vocals at the end are the song's best embellishment.

I agree, Christine adds that little bit of magic to it(find your way). Reminds me of some of her Tusk backing vocals. I really like this.
Stevie sounds nasal, but not as bad as other songs.

bombaysaffires 05-29-2020 11:54 AM

Kinda bland but for a fundraising single not bad. Doesn't make me feel like I'm missing much by them all not doing an album together.

Stevie's vocal sounds an awful lot like her vocal on Leann Rimes "Borrowed".

Christine gets short shrift.:distress:

I get that Stevie is the bigger pop star and recognized name so he wants to leverage that. But I feel like Chris is lost in the mix and her part at the end is so faint it's easy to miss. I mentioned it to a friend who listened to it with me and they were "What Chris part at the end?" and even when I played it again they had a hard time hearing it.

FuzzyPlum 05-29-2020 01:16 PM

Quite nice. Played it a few times without the visuals and it sounded okay.
Sounded better for some reason with the accompanying video (albeit its a fairly simple video).
Agree Christine adds something and should have played a more prominent role.

SteveMacD 05-29-2020 02:58 PM

Just saw that Mike Campbell is on this, too. I’m guessing he played slide guitar.

Where did you learn this?

TrueFaith77 05-30-2020 11:48 AM

It sounds like mick playing drums to me but I could be wrong

He said something about it on Facebook. Also, he’s listed in the credits in the YouTube video.

It’s his son, Elroy Finn

Boring and Stevie sounds like she’s got a wad of cotton stuffed up her nose… Just awful.

The song itself is tolerable. Neil Finn is no slouch as a pop songwriter and it is for a good cause so I paid to download it. Stevie needs to retire .She can no longer sing and she is starting to remind me more and more of Baby Jane Hudson or Mae West in her dotage.

yeah she's said in interviews that a doctor told her he could put a mesh thing in her nose where the hole is to replace the missing cartilage, but that she told him "no I can't do that because what if it changes how I sound?" She might want to revisit that decision.

sue 05-31-2020 07:31 AM

Having just watched Normal People...(twice)..yes I’m sad, I know!
I found the lyrics of this song quite moving, but that’s maybe just my mood at the moment.
Stevie’s voice however..
If she would quieten down a little, sing less in your face sort of, she wouldn’t sound so strident and flat.
I think her voice coach has a lot to answer for....

aleuzzi 05-31-2020 04:25 PM

If Christine was helping out, why not give her a decent spotlight? Her contribution at the end is barely noticeable. Yet another frustration when it comes to getting any new music from her.

I’d like to know what the song that didn’t make LB/CM album sounds like. It was hers and she “had high hopes” for it. LB said “save it for next time” but there won’t likely be a next time and the song sits languishing in a can.

Jondalar 05-31-2020 06:09 PM

Stevie sounds awful. They need the vocal filter from Prove Me Wrong.

mitzo 05-31-2020 06:45 PM

This is a great listen and I think the voices work really well. As for Stevie, that is how she has sounded for many years now. The production and mix here help soften her a bit. I would gladly buy an album of this, a new FM album.

A lot of songs sit "languishing in a can" with this group. Someone should just produce the can at this point.

I’d love to hear Mike Campbell produce the forgotten Buckingham Nicks song “Forget About Me.”

This song is nice. Very pretty and it's a nice surprise hearing this. Stevie's vocal is very good here and Christine sounds great.

Spot on: She needs to pull back her voice and soften it up. To nasal and in your face

That’s been the case since like 1986.

I gotta say this song has always cracked me up. As much a fan of Stevie's lyrics as I usually am, this one really is a word salad. Guess she and Lindsey didn't have a Bob Dylan conversation over this one.

You call me up on the telephone, baby
You said you didn't want to talk to me
I ask you why and you said you'd tell me later
I guess you wanted to forget about me

First....the changing verb tenses thing. But, ok, Bob Dylan.
Then, just the logic of the whole story is wack. Why would someone call you on the phone to tell you they didn't want to talk to you? Wouldn't they have to talk to you on the phone to tell you they don't want to talk to you? Why wouldn't they just stop talking to you, period??
Then, you ask them why they don't want to talk to you, and they say they'll tell you later. What? If they don't want to talk to you, why would they plan to talk to you in the future.....to tell you why they don't want to talk to you...
If they wanted to forget about you, and not talk to you, why would they talk to you later, which would mean they'd have to remember, not forget, you??

Christine is so buried in the mix in the back of the song. Do you want to know why? Her voice is SO gone and old ladyish (the choppers roll around in her mouth when she sings) that even studio tricks cannot hide it anymore.
Stevie's 2 note range has power, but sounds like someone stuffed all the missing toilet paper from the stores up her nose.
Even if LB came back I would not want them touring anymore. I'm not even sure if LB could pull off a studio recording where CM sounds passable. They really should sadly just retire, legacy badly damaged by the tambourine witch and the scarf $ man.

I think that they are done. If and when this covid pandemic slows down enough to even allow for that final cash grab farewell tour they will be too old and decrepit to pull it off if they aren't already. As far as recording new music you can stick a fork in that one too.

I agree. None of them have much voice left. It's become embarrassing at this point. Backup singers can only cover up so much. It's time for them to hang it up.

Granny Christine > No Christine

Wish came true with her return.

I agree. We got that BuckVie tour and she was on and off during that tour. I loved her in 2014 she was a little wobbly but not a disaster.
Her voice became much weaker in 2018. Stevie was also like nails on a chalk board in 2018. I had to cover my ears during Gypsy.

But, I got to see them and that was still a treat.

BuckVie was a dream come true. It could have only been better if Dick and John had played on tour.

A GREAT swan song for the band.:angel::angel:

Yes, besides that. They should have hired the "bad Stevie" from the Ho Hos to intermediately dance across the stage a few times

OMFG. I've never heard of them before. I LOVE it!

I love the tribute band Rumours ATL(their Stevie sounds ten times better than $tevie - AND it's only about $10!!!!), but I'd almost rather see the Ho Ho's!

Stupid Dick dancing around the stage with his African talking drum. This sh*t is hilarious! THANKS!:xoxo:

No scouring. Saturday Night Live was mocking her 20? years ago! The fact that some of are primarily fans of THE BAND, and not her specifically, shouldn't hurt your feelings. Accept it. Accept it with a sense of humor. $he's NOT a goddess. $he's an old woman with barely any voice left.

$he's become a caricature of herself.

I really don't enjoy Stevie's recorded singing voice at all anymore. It's a blessing that she decided not to record with FM around the time of the BuckVie album. I'll gladly take that as my Rumours era FM swan song.
