worst lindsey mac song?

i'll say...'empire state'. don't dislike it, just have to be in the right mood to listen to it.

BlueGrass 05-01-2003 02:08 PM

Either "Walk A Thin Line" or "Save Me A Place." Both are pretty bland.

bootylicous 05-01-2003 02:39 PM

FAMILY MAN! Without a doubt!

Alison 05-01-2003 03:15 PM

Come. I hate the screatching singing, and the over done guitar solo. I didn't like it before I knew it was about that type Of "come"
Lindsey has such a nice voice, he should find it and use it more often.
I do like the begining of the song though.

Livia 05-01-2003 03:23 PM

All of the above, except "Come," I love that song! Funny that no one's mentioned yet about it being misspelled. ;)

Ali 05-01-2003 04:05 PM

Totally, 100%, undeniably "Family Man". I think that Lindsey just picked random words out of a hat and put them to a beat. Blecch.

jeffles 05-01-2003 04:14 PM

Though I like most of his songs on Tusk, I didn't care for Save Me A Place. Family man I don't care for either. You and I, Pt. 2 isn't anything special either.

jmn3 05-01-2003 04:25 PM

Empire State is bad enough. But, he peaked IMO with My Little Demon. BLAH!

wondergirl9847 05-01-2003 04:32 PM

It's not that funny, is it?

I don't care for Not That Funny. :distress: I love Family Man AND Empire State..that plink-plink guitaring is AWESOME!!

David 05-01-2003 04:58 PM

I have a couple of less-than-favorite Lindsey Buckingham songs from his Fleetwood Mac years:

1. Caroline
2. Come

There's one tune, "That's All for Everyone," that didn't quite grab me during the first few years of my immersion in "Tusk." But before too long, it won me over completely. Generally, when I sit down at a piano to just fiddle around, I almost always start with "That's All for Everyone."

chiliD 05-01-2003 05:36 PM

Choose from:

"You & I, Part II"
the studio version of "Not That Funny"
"Come" (ok, I don't hate it anymore, but it is still one of the worst of Lindsey's Fleetwood Mac tunes)

DownOnRodeo 05-01-2003 05:51 PM

Stop Press! Welcome to the other side, ChillD :D

I agree with you on You & I pt II (even though that was a collaboration of sorts between Christine and Lindsey... so they should really share the blame!)

I used to not be a fan of My Little Demon, especially how the outro solo doesn't resolve back to the major key - it used to frustrate me so much, as if the song was begging for it. But now I really like it for some reason - yet something sure got lost between the GOS idea of the song and the Dance track.

BlueGrass 05-01-2003 05:55 PM

Yeah, I agree that my least fav is "My Little Demon."

riff_Shuffler 05-01-2003 06:02 PM

I love Come! It's nasty, and Lindsey knows that it's nasty. He likes it that way (he said that the song definitely has a humorous side to him; I love that!)....

His WORST song IS *Empire State* - he's admitted to hating Mirage, right?! I BETCHA this song makes him quiver (and not Come). ;)

Can't stand Come, but dislike GYOW too.

Cristian 05-01-2003 06:34 PM

FAMILY MAN!!!!!

Honestly there are a lot of Lindsey tunes that, to be politically correct, annoy me. I could begin with "That's All For Everyone", then go on with "Oh Diane", "Empire State", "You And I, Part II", "Caroline" and now "Come", but....

....."Family Man" stands out as possibly being one of the most annoying noises ever produced by a human voice. I can't even believe this is the same guy who wrote "I'm So Afraid". Ugh.

Song of the moment - Miranda

Sorcerer386 05-01-2003 06:48 PM

Almost everything off Tusk (ducks and covers), Empire State and Come.

darklinensuit 05-01-2003 06:56 PM

Red Rover (HATE the chorus)
Family Man
start of GYOW on Mirage concert video
Wrong
Trouble
DW Suite
That's all for Everyone
Oh Diane (to me the repetitive "whoa- Oh- Oh...whoah-Oh-Diane, talkin' about Diane" is as annoying as Wassamattabaybay on WISYA)

- Jake

golddustwoman77 05-01-2003 06:56 PM

I'm definitely going with Red Rover! The chorus is just too weird.

:wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

Sarah 05-01-2003 08:17 PM

Oh Diane (I used to get the hell flamed out of me on the old Ledge for this.)
Family Man
Caroline
My Little Demon
Come
Red Rover
Live versions of Not That Funny. (They were cool the first 5 times.)
Tango in the Night
You & I (pt II, I haven't listened to pt. I enough to make an assessment.)

rianbay1 05-01-2003 08:21 PM

OH DIANE

BlueGrass 05-01-2003 09:07 PM

I can't believe you guys are typing Red Rover.

:distress:

misterbug 05-01-2003 09:10 PM

yeah, i'm surprised at all the votes for red rover (my roommate doesn't like it either). it's one of my favorite LB songs on the album. and i ESPECIALLY like the chorus.

i think some of his songs on mirage--esp. oh diane--were kind of tongue in cheek in their production/style--the movers and shakers at warner bros didn't want another tusk, they wanted something safe. so lindsey said, "you want safe? how about a song that sounds right out of the 50s, you conservative, nostalgic fools?"

also, i never knew there were so many anti-family man sentiments lingering about. i like that one too!

wondergirl9847 05-01-2003 09:42 PM

I know...

WHY does it make me so sad to hear that people hate this song so much? It speaks to my soul while others hate it....:(

I have to keep saying to myself that we are all different and songs speak to us in different ways...

Please don't take it personally about people hating RR, I think the most artistic songs are beloved by some & despised by others. It's a demonstration of the strength of the art. Who knows why it's a strong hate from some & a strong love from others? I'm not sure of why I love some of my favorite Stevie songs, such as Lady from the Mountain and Garbo, which I'm sure rub some people harshly. And somebody posted nearby that she hates The Highwayman, another favorite of mine. Furthermore, W/out a Leg to Stand On is a favorite Lindsey song of mine, but I never see anybody here say they love it. (Sometimes I think he makes the ones I like short just to annoy me! I Know I'm not Wrong is another example.)
At least our differences keep the board interesting. The important thing is I love that I share opinions with people with passion for their favorites, the way I have passion for mine. (The down side is we also have passions for our least favorites, I suppose.)

I'm just surprised people mentioned Caroline. i think its his best song on Tango in the Night. Its got a fantastic chorus.

macmar71 05-01-2003 10:30 PM

I must add Red Rover to my list of dislikes
as well as Come. Other not so favorite, rather Ugh! tunes: That's How We Do It In L.A. and Time Bomb Town

wondergirl9847 05-01-2003 10:37 PM

"SURVEY SAYS!!!" LOL I love that part of THWDIILA!!

TBT - Oh man, I hated this song as a kid!! LOL I was like "Why is he singing like that...all herky jerky?" Now, I love it, it's a unique song, and only Lindsey can pull off a vocal of that caliber, IMO.

I love when he sings all goofy like in TBT, LA and songs like Bwana, it makes him stand out from every other singer. You know, I love listening to crooners, people with smooth, velvet-like voices, but I also love unique voices like Lindsey, Stevie, Dolly Parton (I love her silly laugh! LOL) and Gwen Stefani. You know EXACTLY who's singing when you hear these people...they can't be mistaken for anyone else and I LOVE that!!

sulamith 05-01-2003 10:41 PM

Empire State.

????????????

Bleck.

Ali 05-02-2003 12:37 AM

"Oh Diane"...oh god...I totally forgot about this one. Shows you how much I listen to "Mirage".

But how can anyone hate "DW Suite"? Yeah, it's different from most songs, but there's several parts so there's gotta be at least something to like about it.

rhianntp 05-02-2003 12:45 AM

Hmmm... Make Me a Mask.... I love almost everything he has ever done though... the weirder the better for me

secondhandchain 05-02-2003 01:53 AM

That's All For Everyone, Walk a thin Line....they're GREAT...DISAGREE

FAMILIY MAN EH
SAVE ME A PLACE EH

Empire State ..like it ...those guitars, cool...those harmonies, cool

Not that Funny..very cool

Come..too screechy on the chorus, but pretty good

Red Rover..I just wish his vocal on the versus were cleaner

But Lindsey is the MAN!

macfan 57 05-02-2003 05:46 AM

i once read some fan's lyric interpretation of MLD, it said try to replace "demon" in the lyrics for another word (one describing a part of the male anatomy) while listening to the song to give it a whole new spin. hmm...i don't know if that helps you like it any better, though.
