What songs do you skip on SYW?

By now we have listened to the CD enough to know which songs we skip, so I thought a list would be a good idea.

I tend to skip:

Murrow
Red Rover
Come
Silver Girl

Sorry, LB fans! I just don't have the patience for all those crazy guitar solos. I have listened to Red Rover and Come several times, but I always skip ahead when Lindsey starts on those long guitar-god solos. They last way too long. And I don't really like it when he screams.

I tend to skip Lindsey's songs when I listen to Tusk, too.

sparky 04-23-2003 02:19 AM

I skip :

Silver Girl
Say You Will
Come (sometimes)

DownOnRodeo 04-23-2003 02:24 AM

Silver Girl is the only song I really skip, but that is more out of habit than anything. It's not *that* bad I've decided ;) But it still makes me sad that it's in Not Make Believe's place.

SmthngOfADreamr 04-23-2003 04:17 AM

Not everytime, but if I skip it is usually:

Silver Girl
SYHA
BTLH

Silver Girl is not that bad anymore, and the other two are beautiful songs, but the album just really loses momentum to me during this huge slow-down.

SeventhWonder 04-23-2003 04:32 AM

I usually skip

Steal Your Heart Away
Bleed to Love Her
Smile At You

I think the album would have been a bit stronger if these had been cut. :o

Everybody Finds out
Bleed To Love Her
Steal Your Heart Away
Destiny Rules
Running...

i find these songs to be very boring

blinker12 04-23-2003 09:15 AM

I only skip two:

1. Murrow Turning Over in His Grave (sometimes)
2. Come (ALWAYS _ pure guitar wankery)

Interesting, considering Tusk has no guitar solos to speak of.

I skip Come, Running Through the Garden and Silver Girl. Sometimes, I don't have patience for Illume either.

chiliD 04-23-2003 10:02 AM

I ALWAYS skip "Come" when I listen through to the album.

BUT...from all the things I've said about the song, I DO listen to it on its own. (bet that shocked, y'all, huh? ;) ) I WANT to give the song a chance, but G. Zuss Cryst is it difficult.

Of the two times I listened through to it last night, the second time through, I didn't quite abhor it NEARLY as much as I had on every other listen...whether it was "a moment in time" or what, but for that particular block of 6:04, I think I must've "got it" or something because I actually kind of got into the song. I know....I know... ...what can I say?

And, now I'm starting to skip "Silver Girl" consistently, too; and in most cases program "Not Make Believe" in that spot instead...but then, I use my OWN sequencing order and NOT the "as is" running order.

I was just thinking the same thing. I can't, off the top of my head, think of even ONE...wait...oh, yeah...during the end/fade of "Sisters Of The Moon".

DrummerDeanna 04-23-2003 10:41 AM

The only song I skip is Red Rover...I've listened to it a few times and can't get into it...and once in a while I also skip Murrow and Come...though I dig Come, I think it's great...I agree with Mad4Stevie...I just can't sit through his long guitar solos....this is especially hard in Murrow....I just skip through the end cause I can't wait to get to the next song....

kristin 04-23-2003 10:53 AM

OH MY GOD!!! All you people skipping MURROW and COME.....how could you??? haha.....seriously though.....I think those are like the masterpeices on the album.....I especially love Murrow....Lindsey just sounds so passionate.....and I love the different vocals that he uses......

"I thought that our harmony, was the new harmony...."

I just love those two songs....had to vent. I LOVE SYHA too, so much. The songs I skip if I so skip any are Silver Girl, Red Rover, and Bleed To Love Her.

Kristin

EnchantedStorms 04-23-2003 11:13 AM

I don't understand how ANYONE could skip Running Through The Garden and Everybody Finds Out!!!! LOL, I'm usually skipping all the other songs to GET TO those songs! Then I go back and listen to the others. :D

The only songs I find myself skipping regularly are Murrow, Silver Girl, and Illume. I do think they'll grow on me though...everytime I listen I find myself liking them just a little more than I did the time before.....:)

Alison 04-23-2003 11:33 AM

I always skip
come: can't get into this one, I like the first two minuits, but when he gets yelling and that quitar solo, it just grates my nerves.
Silver girl : I find boring
Running through the garden:I find this a sloppy disconected song.
I find most of Lindseys songs get to weird on this album.
He could have picked nicer songs that he sang better on.

Bella Figura 04-23-2003 12:46 PM

Angela, I'm right there with you again!! I usually skip everything initially to listen to Everybody Finds out...it's just too far into the cd to wait.

The song I'm skipping everytime tho is What's the World Coming To...it sounds too dated for me to enjoy with all the great songs w/interesting twists and turns coming up after this same old tired FM tune...

sulamith 04-23-2003 01:01 PM

How could anyone skip EFO????
Ok, this calls for some ground rules...... the Ten Commandments of SYW:

1. Thou shalt not ignore the lyrics booklet. Memorize it before you attend any concerts.

2. Thou shalt sing along and get on your feet to show support at said concerts for SYW songs.

3. Thou shalt take note of the fact that Lindsey produced Stevie's songs alone. Alone. By himself. Meaning he didn't want anyone else to do it. This denotes protectiveness, of course.

4. Thou shalt hope and pray Stevie gets some new clothes before above-mentioned shows.

5. Thou shalt hope and pray that Lindsey gets some new clothes before above-mentioned shows.

6. Thou shalt purchase at least three copies of SYW. One is to remain in your vehicle at all times.

7. Thou shalt reserve all complaints about SYW to fans who will understand and know you love the band anyway. Do not complain about SYW to quasi-fans.

8. Thou shalt not skip Red Rover.

9. Thou shalt love EFO with all thy heart, thy soul, and thy mind.

10. Thou shalt not skip EFO. Ever. Never ever.

Ever.

EnchantedStorms 04-23-2003 01:04 PM

I hear ya, Bella Figura! I'm not a patient person, lol! I think I'm gonna burn a cd with RTTG and EFO back to back, over and over again. Those two songs just get my blood pumping. They're awesome.

Love the 10 Commandments, but you forgot the one that goes THOU SHALT NOT COVET KELLY CLARKSON'S CHART POSITION.

I skip RR & Come consistently. Sometimes I skip WTWCT (good song) but only because I like to hear Murrow (love the chorus, & just to make sure I'll get flamed, I'll go on record that I wish Stevie had contributed one of the layers "Murrow turning over in his grave..."). Similarly, I skip Illume (good song) just to hear Thrown Down. I skip SayG to hear GB. I skip some songs such as SYHA because I played them so much before the album's release.
I skip Silver Girl if I'm driving because I don't like the slow ones when I drive. Gee, it sure looks like I skip a lot, but that still leaves THIRTEEN songs. :)

- Jake

sulamith 04-23-2003 01:50 PM

D'oh! How could I forget the Chart position one? Maybe soon it won't be an issue! lol!

I would love it if LB had Stevie singing "the damn thing went wild" really loud so we could hear it!

How funny would that be?

LOL!!

ryan8472 04-23-2003 02:37 PM

I usually skip Everybody Finds Out (sorry, I don't know what it is, it's just not my thing) Bleed to Love Her, Steal Your Heart Away and Say Goodbye. Granted, all of these have their strong points, but I just favor the other songs (yes, even Silver Girl).

Keith 04-23-2003 04:44 PM

one more commandment..

thou shalt not review an album after listening to only a couple of times and definitely not through an internet stream...

what a difference a week makes. and a quality soundin' recording. When I first got SYW, my skippers were Red Rover and Say Goodbye. Beautiful songs, but way too busy, according to my ears..i was missing it.

I also initially had problems with the sequencing, fell in love with Stevie's songs instantly, and put it away a few times to listen to other music (Lucinda Williams and the White Stripes new records are terrific).

BUT, last night I listened to SYW twice - front through back, and I, for the first time, connected to both Red Rover and Say Goodbye. (listening through really good headphones helps immensely). It's funny how you sometimes don't get a song on the first listen, but it takes a while for the music.. the lyrics to sink in.

After listening to the record twice, I was laying in my bed with "Say Goodbye" stuck in my head.. amazing what a difference a week makes. Actually, I'm finding new things about the record - and I'm even ok with the sequencing. It just took.. well, a good week.

I can't say I skip anything at the moment - although I have overplayed 'Peacekeeper" since I had it so early, so if I had to pick one..it would be PK!

estranged4life 04-23-2003 05:20 PM

I usually...

never skip a track on SYW...And I rarely do so on most cd's/tapes/etc I play...So I guess I am in the minority on this matter...Brian J.

Grainuaile 04-23-2003 05:38 PM

I skip

I usually skip Silver Girl, because I just can't get into it.

Sometimes Come, just because now I can't stop thinking about Anne Heche. Seriously. :distress:

SOMETIMES I skip Red Rover, Illume, and Smile at You. I love all of those songs, but don't always want to hear them.

Rumours 04-23-2003 06:28 PM

I must say, I was initially quite frightened by Murrow, Come and Red Rover. Until I listened a little more. I've now come to appreciate the quirkiness of both Murrow & Come.......kind of "Tusk"-ish actually--starts out kind of slowly, softly, then really KICKS IN.

Red Rover, however, still scares the heck out of me. This one definitely gets skipped. I have not warmed up to this one! I'm sorry as well Lindsey lovers, I thought Murrow & Come were odd enough, but they've grown on me and I really think of them as nice little dittys now, but he just totally freaks me out with Red Rover.
"Red Rover....Red Rover......we've come to take you over....."
or whatever he says......I'm afraid to listen!!!
Um, yeah, I really believe him with this one, that's why I make sure all the doors are locked and every light in the house is turned ON when and if I do happen to let this one play on my stereo!!!! Yikes! I think we could have come up with something a little better.....Down On Rodeo perhaps......anything!!

And I skip Silver Girl most of the time. This just doesn't do anything for me. I keep thinking of that annoying song from years ago.....I'm a Barbie Girl in a Barbie Wooooorld.......yuck! They could have found a better song to replace this stinker as well.

Every now & then I'll skip Running Through the Garden, depending on my mood. This one is so-so.....again, kind of.....I don't know.....odd. Not Stevie's best writing. Or vocals for that matter. Nice guitar work in this one though!!! So, it's worth listening to. I can make it through this song ok.

The rest of the cd is awesome.......excellent.

I'm rendered speechless at even the thought of skipping any of the other songs. How? That's all I ask! How?

Stephanie

Hawkeye 04-23-2003 06:35 PM

I skip the END of Murrow. I love the first 2 and a half minutes, but it's got to be his Worst guitar solo ever. And the album usually ends at Destiny Rules for me. I have to be in the right mood for the last two songs on the album. They're not bad, i just don't feel like listening to them:rolleyes:

I should clarify. What I mean is that I skip most of LB songs on Tusk (Not That Funny, etc.) because they are just too weird for me. I don't like the screaming that he does. However, for some reason, I do like The Ledge!

wondergirl9847 04-23-2003 08:11 PM

OMG!!

How wierd that ya'll skip songs as of right now. I don't really skip any of the songs, unless I need to write about one and I skip to it so I can listen and type at the same time. LOL I don't even skip my least fave song (YET..LOL) Silver Girl. It's too early, I guess, I'm not SICK of any songs on the album and I truly do LOVE them all!! I do love the music on Silver Girl (especially the opening), just not the lyrics and it's a lil too slow for my taste. I love to ROCK OUT!!!! I love ALL the guitar solos on the album and they NEVER grate on my nerves!!! Now, ask me in about 6 months or so what songs I skip. LOL

BlueGrass 04-23-2003 08:39 PM

Mostly "Illume." That's it now, but I am getting use to it. Sometimes "Smile @ You" too.

Cristian 04-23-2003 09:56 PM

I try to listen to "Come", but I find myself often skipping it. Weird thing, I liked it the very first time I heard it, but I've been liking it less and less now... "Murrow Turning Over In His Grave" is another one I could live without. "Bleed To Love Her", too, I much prefer The Dance version. And Stevie's "Silver Girl" and "Not Make Believe" are not favorites either... All the other ones I listen to always. Although I agree the running order could have been changed to make something more cohesive and less fragmented.

Song of the moment - Red Rover

macmar71 04-23-2003 10:57 PM

The songs that I skip are
Illume
Red Rover
Come
Running through the Garden

Janet 04-23-2003 11:01 PM

I skip song 1, then skip song 12, 13, 14,. I like 13 and 14 but they are old and I want to learn the new songs.

WTWCT is just ...I don't know. Lindsey can do better ( take the gorgeous Red Rover, Come and Say Goodbye!)

Its so weird how we all like different songs!!!

silversprings8 04-24-2003 12:38 AM

I've got to stick up for it!!!

Murrow is my favorite LB song on the album, tied with EFO. It might even have a slight lead.

As for songs I skip... I usually listen to all the songs on the album. Lots of times I'll jump all over the place, from song to song, eventually listening to all the tracks.

If I do end up skipping a track it would be Silver Girl, BTLH, or SYHA.

tamaraluvsFM 04-25-2003 07:07 PM

I tend to skip WTWCT, Red Rover, and Silver Girl...those three just make me cringe. The rest of the album I had to listen to it about 3 times till I loved it. Now I listen to it except these three and sing along.
