Uncut Magazine: Tango-era violence??

I was pretty surprised about the first paragraph of the Uncut Magazine article. I had read about this supposed fight between Lindsey and the band in Mick Fleetwood's autobiography, but I thought that Mick later explained that it was blown out of proportion in his book. I remember being shocked that Lindsey pushed Stevie over the car and slapped her. It just seems weird that this story comes up again, almost exactly as it was told in Mick Fleetwood's biography.

dissention 04-06-2003 05:05 PM

That was one knock-out, drag-out fight! Stevie said that she and Lindsey were chasing each other up and down Christine's long driveway and that they were hitting each other. When he hit her, she screamed at him and swore at him, then told him if she didn't kill him, her father and her brother would. She also said that she's not a frightening person, but she can be vicious. I just couldn't believe Lindsey hit her, I still can't. I think it was the same night that Stevie bitched about barely being on TITN and Christine bitched her out. Then John told Lindsey to leave and he left the band. But what John meant was to leave the room!

madformac 04-06-2003 05:07 PM

Hmm.

From what I've gathered it was more than that. A certain amount of strangulation may have occured allegedly, don't know from who though.

:wavey:

sodascouts 04-06-2003 05:07 PM

I was surprised by that, too. At least he tried to justify it later by saying it was the result of the entire band abandoning Lindsey to do Tango in the Night all by himself.

I don't really think either extreme is 100% true.

BlueGrass 04-06-2003 05:10 PM

LOL...I read or heard that John like stood up and said, 'I think you better leave' and then he left. LOL

I don't know. Have you seen the BBC Rock Family documentary about the Mac from '94? Stevie came right out and said it got EXTREMELY ugly, but only told us surface information. I think a LOT went down in that house on that night. A lot. LOL

wondergirl9847 04-06-2003 05:16 PM

This will make me look like a jerk, but oh well...

What if Stevie was high that particular day and she attacked Lindsey first when he said he didn't want to tour and stuff? Maybe he hit her AFTER she hit him? I dunno. Just a thought...

Lindsey pushed Stevie against a car and slapped her, but he MIGHT have done it because she was being crazy or something, trying to calm her down?

I'm not saying he was right in hitting her, I'm just wondering what caused this man who is most definitely NOT a violent person to hit Stevie.

FiercestCalmSea 04-06-2003 05:22 PM

I think it is only fair to assume that they all had a part in what happend.Everyone loses it now and then..Stevie is not a saint, nor is Lindsey...when you are pissed off,you are pissed off.If he did hit her, that's not too cool..but who is to say she didn't instigate it somewhat..I am sure if he really wanted to hurt her he would have done alot more than slap her,you know? Bottom line,s**t happens. These people led crazy-ass lives...so you really can't be surprised when you hear stuff like this.

dissention 04-06-2003 05:23 PM

As far as I know, and from what Stevie herself said, she was the one who attacked first. She said she just flew off the couch and attacked him. Hope this puts your mind at ease, Christy!

But...I just can't picture Stevie getting soooooo out of control where someone would have to hit her to calm her down. And I don't think she was high because she had already been to Betty Ford and was into the whole presciption drug thing.

Ah, the crazy past of Fleetwood Mac!

LindseyRocks 04-06-2003 05:26 PM

hmmm

I'm with Christy on this one. Stevie was pretty coked out during that time if I remember correctly. Maybe Stevie deserved a good crack in the mouth!

LOL

Not quite. She went to Betty Ford in 86,at the end of the RAL tour.

estranged4life 04-06-2003 05:42 PM

I read the article...

and wondered do we really need to hear the story YET again of Lindsey & Stevie and their lil' fight?

I know I'm in the minority on this subject, but I don't care what happened back then...The only thing I care to hear is what happening now...Brian J.

LindseyRocks 04-06-2003 05:52 PM

ok - well point taken

Well, I may be wrong about the coke time frame - and thanks for the correction guys. But then that brings up another very salient point; early recovery. It can be worse than the active addiction itself for the person trying to clean up. In fact, a person can actually act quite insane during that time. Just another interesting bit of speculation. Maybe Stevie really "freaked" out in an early recovery episode. What makes this type of thing so difficult is that the person is suddenly forced to deal with all those things that they had been escaping from while active in the addiction.

So I'm going to stick to my original statement, if anything, because it will tweak a lot of people on this board:
"Maybe Stevie deserved a good crack in the mouth"

rofl!! - just trying to stir things up a bit

take care friends

david:nod:

wondergirl9847 04-06-2003 06:01 PM

LOL

David, don't hold back next time.

I'm agreeing with ya tho....she was probably a lil wacked out on recovering and the prescription drugs too probably had a toll, plus, stress too can make one really crazy.

I'm not DEFENDING Lindsey's actions, I'm just wondering, like you guys, what the heck really happened?

Brian has a good point too tho...that was the past...we've ALL done stupid stuff and...in the words of Lindsey...

THIS IS THE TIME (to concentrate on!!)!!!!

APRIL 15th is so close, I can SMELL it!!

dissention 04-06-2003 06:03 PM

I don't know of any woman in this world that needs to be hit, but I don't think she was suffering from post-coke insanity. Remember, she was in Betty Ford a good six months at least before this broke out. When she was released, she was put on medication to hinder the side effects of going off of coke. I don't think anyone was insane; I think tempers flared, emotional things that were suppressed appeared again, and Lindsey had a severe lapse in judgement about hitting women. No man should ever raise their hand to a women, EVER. But thankfully, this is all in the past and they've moved forward. :)

Ever watched Jerry Springer?

BlueGrass 04-06-2003 06:10 PM

"I actually jumped across the room and tried to kill him, literally kill him" - Stevie

Remember when she said that, I think it was during Lindsey's BTM.

It was from BBC's Rock's Family Trees. :D

Yeah, I've seen Springer; those women are trash, but nonetheless...women don't get hit EVER in my book. :)

Don't underestimate the nature of early recovery. Until you've been through it yourself, there's no way you could understand - drugs or no drugs. The first couple years can be hell.

I'm not underestimating anything. My experiences may be different than yours, as is every persons and their experiences are different, let's leave it at that. Thank god she kicked that habit though! :D

DeeGeMe 04-06-2003 06:35 PM

Stevie didn't have to necessarily be drugged to do what she did, just pissed off. I once came across a conference table at a co-workers who had just tried to blame me for some screw-up of his in front of our boss. I'm not sure how I intended to get across that conference table, or what I intended to do when I got to him, in fact, I can't really remember jumping for him at all. I just remember him leaping out of his chair and making a run for the door to get away from me. I'm 5'3 and weigh about 120 pounds and my co-worker was 6'4 and weighed around 250. I'm not a hitter, and am a very non-violent person, although I will tell you exactly what I'm thinking if you tick me off. And this guy was in no way shape or form an ex-boyfriend of mine--so I can't even begin to imagine what the emotions must have been like that night at Christine's! Maybe Stevie just had one of those moments where a lot of anger & resentment just surfaced to the top. Maybe Lindsey did too. Unfortuantely both their moments were at the same time leading to a little mass insanity.

fair enough. I do agree with you though - don't get me wrong, as I'm not condoning hitting women. I don't think anything really justifies that either. My comments were, for the most part, tongue-in-cheek. And I'm glad Stevie got cleaned up (and for that matter, the rest of them as well). It paved the way for this reconcilation of sorts. And now we're ready to rock it again;)

Aww....

Sorry MFM about the extra wait for the album. :( I'm sure that on April 15th tho, all the tracks will be on kazaa for those who cannot wait another almost two weeks!! Unless you are waiting it out completely tho and don't wanna ruin it...then, back to square one of..sorry about the extra wait.

BTW, why did it get changed from April 14th??

LMAO!!! I just read your location too MFM...Yeah, I'd be happy to be ANYWHERE but THERE right now too!! I love your avatar too..he's beautiful.

strandinthewind 04-06-2003 06:49 PM

Stevie did say this, but she said she was enraged because she demostrated years of loyalty by needlessly (career-wise at that time) coming back to Fleetwood Mac (the truth of her statement is another discussion at another time  ) only to have LB then say I am leaving the band after producing an album and then not touring to support it. That was, at the least, not very nice of him ;) Who would not have been pissed? As an aside, my favorite quote from this period is LB saying "What was I going to tour for - to watch Stevie twirl?" :)

I also doubt if Stevie was indeed that wacked out in Klonopin/Prozac because she has stated that did not happen until after she had written and done work on TOSOTM, which was presumably way after TITN's release.

I think Stevie's words that "we finally broke up that day" are the most accurate depiction. 10 or so years of pent up frustration can be potent!

Also, I am wondering why it is assumed LB is totally non-violent. Has this been quoted somewhere. Note: I am just asking in a non-confrontational way as I do not think any on them are particularly violent to the point and there was Chris allegedly slapping LB after he allegedly kicked SN in the shin(s) on stage in Europe on the Tusk tour during Rhiannon - but then LB denies it and instead alleges he just sang out of key (perhaps intentionally :) ) - Oh the saga of it all :), esp. considering LB and MF have admitted to havong problems with Coke and other stuff for significant periods including some of the time of the making of TITN (except SN, who allegedly quit prior to then).

I think the album has been bumped possibly for a single release in Europe.

Yes, not in Iraq, unlike John Simpson the BBC reporter I admire and the only reporter I trust to speak the truth who was nearly killed today when another US F15 cowboy hit his convoy in northern Iraq. I am furious over the situation around this "friendly fire" incident. So much so that I'm not going to mention it again, I am that enraged.

The tiger avatar is in relation to the Lindsey/Libra thing Tuigirl mentioned in an earlier thread. I'm a Tiger Libra it seems.

ok, sorry to feed the rumor mill more, but i read somewhere that in the '70s lindsey and stevie rented a cabin somewhere, they got into a fight, lindsey chased her with a knife, blah blah blah, stevie wrote landslide. is there any grain of truth in this tale?

The only two incidents I have heard of of alleged violence are the Rhiannon Tusk tour incident and the TITN tour incident, which all parties, except Mick "I'll say anything if it'll get me a buck," have denied lead to a complete "ass whipping" :) I think Stevie was perhaps speaking figuratively, although, again, you never know. Oh to have a fly on the wall!!!! :)

I think they both gave it as good as they got. I can only imagine what things were said between the two of them. As Stevie was quoted in Rock Lives:

"We said too much to each other. We said all the things that we had wanted to say for the last ten years, and we screamed at each other. Those things in a relationship that you try to never say just in case you do get back together. We said those things."

I recall in Mick's book that there was a mention of another violent event - no details, though. At least that was the implication. After recounting the "slap" the book went on to say something like "it wasn't the first time". So who knows?

AMEN! I couldn't have expressed it better myself. Now how ironic is it that Stevie fans are often accused of seeing her as being infallible? This really takes it to the next level though, only obviously reversed.

But then again it is very silly to take sides over an argument that took place 15 or so years ago that has long since been resolved, and that we were not involved in in the first place.

Weren't there allegations of LB hitting his girlfriend?

It must be 10 years ago - but an ex-girlfriend of LBs was on a talk show - maybe Donahue - and she was talking about being physically abused by him. I think it was the model girlfriend he had around the time of Law and Order. I know people that know LB personally and they have said he has a very violent side that comes out when he drinks.
