Rate the Leaked SYW Songs
I think Thrown Down is 10/10.
What's your favourite of the leaked songs and snippets? (I wanted to put in the GOS songs and Stevie demos but there's only 10 poll options) |
I don't know very many of those songs, but my favourite so far is Peacekeeper.
|
I always like to leave some space for the perfect ten, which hardly exists- so for me an"eight" is a very good evaluation. Here is my list:
Peacekeeper 8/10 Thrown down 7,5/10 Steal your heart away 7,5/10 What`s the world coming to 7/10 Say you will 7/10 Smile at you 7/10 Destiny rules 3/10 I`m very content with what I`ve heard so far. Once we have the CD the sound quality will be much better so that will be an additional kick. Last point: concerning the developments of the GOS songs- I think that SYHA (which I already liked before) has gained and hope very much that Bleed to love her will gain also, as for me the song on GOS somehow lacks the power of the live performance. I think the singing parts could sound better with more energy and there is a lot of potential in this track to be exploited! A few days more and we'll see! :wavey: Stefan |
I just found out this morning that there are advance copies of the entire CD out and no one is sharing. C'mon!
|
or at the very least could someone whos heard the new cd via advance copy confirm whether or not "Goodbye Baby" is really the beloved demo "The Tower"...inquiring minds are dying to know.....;)
And then theres the anticipation about the OTHER lesser known tracks: "Silver Girl" "Everybody Finds Out" & "Illume"-which is probably the one I'm most curious to hear. I would just love to hear a review of these... as I'm refraining from downloading any more leaked stuff. which bring me back to the topic at hand...my vote and favorite hands down IS"Thrown Down" |
Definitely...
...the title track, hands down. Catchy lyrics and the band sounds fresh and tight, and if fits Stevie's voice so much. I love it. The one that I dislike (almost) completely is "Smile At You", not because of the song, but because of the new arrangement...
Song of the moment - Thrown Down |
Favorites
Well I have to say that I like them all and am excited about this cd. My favorite track so far is "Say You Will". It just sounds to me like one of those upbeat and fun songs like "Blue Letter" and "Angel". I think it has the same kind of feel to it.
"Thrown Down" is a close second. Love the new arrangement and the added lyrics. My favorite Lindsey song from the ones I've heard so far is "Steal Your Heart Away". For some reason I see cowboys, wagon trains, and open plains.  Joe |
I still like the older leaked Thrown Down a lot better. Maybe if I hear the whole song in its newer form I'll change my mind. But they planted so much musical energy into the song and then softened it out again. And the intro to the first take we heard, the descending guitar and beginning drum beat is just a lot better imo. I haven't heard all of the leaks, so I'm not gonna vote. Besides, I would be prejudice to say Peacekeeper because I've heard it in its entirety and heard it so many times that I just keep WANTING to hear it, and the damn Pittsburgh radio stations won't play it (I've heard it only twice). Enough ranting, I'm thirsty.
Just to add, I DID look at the results so far, and it's interesting. No one clear winner, votes all over the board. I think that's a good thing for the album as a whole. |
I voted for Thrown Down. I love the new way that it begins. The new lyrics still catch me off guard though. I wonder if the old ones will appear in a later verse?
Close second are Say You Will and Steal Your Heart Away. They're both such classic Mac IMO. I like the idea of Destiny Rules a lot. It's one that is going to grow on me, I'm sure. I just wonder why they didn't clean up those vocals at the very beginning, even a little bit? It's classic Stevie, but she can do better than that! |
SYW Spoiler
I was over at Neil's site and he has a SYW Spoiler thread - so I got my answer to my earlier question, according to an anoynomous source whos heard the complete CD-"GoodBye Baby" is indeed what we know as The Tower, with piano replaced w/ Lindseys guitar arrangement. It was also noted that RTTG is also very good keeping the "magic" of the demo but without the dual voice tracks.....Hmmmmm I hope Lindsey does better w/ this track then Smile at you......
|
I hope this is true about Goodbye Baby being the Tower!! But I hope the guitar arrangement is good. I trust Lindsey though. Too bad that there is only one vocal track on RTTG. I always thought it was fun how she was always singing under herself too. But again, I trust Lindsey.
And who are these lucky people who have heard the CD? I'm so jealous!! |
Re: SYW Spoiler
My favorite of the leaked tracks, is "Destiny Rules"... hands down.
From Stevie's first note, I'm hooked. I know I tend to be in the minority on this one, but I really love that wicked, rumbly, throaty sound her voice has now... which is very reminiscent of latter-day Marianne Faithfull. And the subject matter of the song... a tortured love that spans past lives, and parallel universes... is totally up my alley. Definitely a 10! :D Quote:
I'm sure the finished product will be terrific, and will fit in perfectly with the rest of the tracks. Why is April 15th taking sooo long to get here!?! |

You could say to some degree (a large degree in my mind) Fleetwood Mac ended with Christine, and it's Buckingham Nicks now - but this album's still sort of half-half ... If there is a follow-up album, though, I believe that although it will be called Fleetwood Mac, it will be full-throttle Buckingham Nicks, full of esoteric folk music and not a honky-tonk piano or string section to be seen. Quote:
Just my opinion though. :wavey: :) I see what you mean with yours. But I'm glad they're not trying to keep up the musicality and keyboard presence of someone who is no longer a part of the band. |
Hmm...I'm having trouble voting because I don't consider partial songs as a fair listen.
But I'll do it anyway. ;) Destiny Rules just blows me away. The instant I heard it, I just loved it - classic Mac sound, spacy Stevie lyrics, and a great chorus. I can't wait to hear the whole thing. (Re: Stevie's voice on DR - I don't not like it. But I kinda cringed when I first heard it. The first thing I thought of was that all of her detractors who say she sounds like a goat have even more ammo. It's that "Maybe we were togeeeetherrrrrr" ) SYHA is right behind it...I always liked the song but the new version is just incredible. I love it. If you'd asked me a few weeks ago, I would have said Thrown Down was my favorite. But I'm not so sure anymore. I agree with Sorcerer386 - the new version doesn't have the kick that the other one does. This is more reminiscent of the original demo which I never did like. I love Peacekeeper, it is top notch. I'm disappointed with Smile At You. This has always been my favorite demo so I had high hopes. I cannot believe they got rid of Lindsey's stinging guitar parts. That just punctuated Stevie's anger so well in the other versions. I knew it would be softened but to lose both Stevie's angry singing and Lindsey's piercing guitar was too big of a blow for me. (Although I do like the Spanish guitar at the end.) My jury is still out on WTWCT and SYW. I kinda like what I've heard, but I'm pretty sure they won't end up favorites of mine. Mike B |
I like Smile at You much more now as opposed to the demos, which I never really liked, esp. her screaming in the "angry" one. But many people like them, so I am apparently in the minority. But I voted for SYW because I love the lyrics, esp. "fever dance." Having said that, I really do not hate any of the new songs I have heard so far; in fact I really like almost all of them (except WTWCT, which I like, but that is about it :) )
|
I have to go with Thrown Down, so far. I just love it. And I love the new lyrics. It would have been Smile At You...but I'm still pouting over the missing flaming wails. :D
Second would be a tie between Peacekeeper and SYHA, I think. ~Angela~ :wavey: |
I voted...
Nuff said...Brian "D.T.A." J.

I'm surprised WTWCT isn't more popular. To me that's a classic Mac opener in the style of Monday Morning or Second Hand News.
I wasn't sure about the phrasing of the words, with Lindseys voice, but the song is brilliantly catchy. Second verse has me tapping my foot every time. |
My favorite is Destiny Rules followed by Say You Will. I was not too crazy about her vocal in the beginning of the song, either. However, I love this song so much I can over look it. Hey at least it is not a synthesized sounding voice like a lot of music out today.
|
SYW for me. Intelligent lyrics, a clear chorus, an upbeat melody.
Like Thown Down. Like Peacekeeper, mainly due to the harmonies Stevie adds in the chorus. Destiny Rules is okay. As I posted, the vocals sounded better at The B & N listening ceneter than they sound online. The song sounds like it could fin in on Out of the Cradle --- something bout the guitar & beat. SYHA would fit on Mirage between Book of Love & Eyes of the World. WWCT sounds like Love in Store to me. I can appreciate that Lindsey wants to branch out & innovate from the demos; I just wish he hadn't done it to Smile at You. This was not a song that needed fixing. He could hve broken from the Mirage sound (after all, he doesn't like that album) on the other two songs I mentioned rather than tweaking on of Stevie's so much. JMO. I'm concerned for RTTG, as I have enough trouble imagining it without the keyboards. Now they've gotten rid of the layered vocals. Please tell me the vocals are still angry! - Jake |

What station(s) have you heard it on? |
Thanks for that Josh!
I'll have to see if I'm able to pick up 92.9, because no station around here has been playing any new Mac. At least not that I've heard. Stephanie :wavey: |
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that this album does NOT sound like the Fleetwood Mac that I know? I'm not saying that the album's bad or anything, I love it, but it just sounds different.
The absence of Christine and the fact that both Lindsey and Stevie's voices have gotten deeper affect the sound, but I think the biggest change is in the production. It sounds to me like there are more instrumental layers than Lindsey has used before (with FM, that is), and fewer vocal layers. From what I've heard, it sounds like a much more experimental album than the white album or Rumours, or perhaps even Tusk. Of course, one reason for this is that there's simply a whole bunch more one can do production-wise today than there was in 1979. In summary, I think this album sounds more like TISL than anything Fleetwood Mac has put out. So far, my favorite song has been Smile At You. The vocals on this song are overwhelming. I hope they do this one live. |

ARRRRRRGHHHHH! I HATE YOU LINDSEY! *ok, calming down* But seriously, I'm really getting pissed off with Lindsey's arrangements here. Smile At You is a total dissapointment, I can't believe what he did with this song. He totally ruined a good thing. :( I have to agree with Adam, I am going to be missing the piano and keyboards. Even though I don't exactly miss Christine, I do miss that instrument. I hope Goodbye Baby and RTTG aren't dissapointments as Smile At You is. Anyway, as for the songs... I'm gonna say that even though I like the older leaked version of Thrown Down, the new one is still my favorite, followed by Peacekeeper, Say you will, Destiny Rules, SYHA, Smile at you, WTTCT. Dan |
It actually surprises me that people are so disappointed by the new arrangement of "Smile At You."
Lyrically, the new version is more in keeping with the 'Tusk'-era outtake, so it's not surprising that all of the "flaming... flaming" stuff isn't there, as it was only evident on the 'Mirage' outtake. It also isn't surprising to me that the so-called "angriness" isn't there... since, again, it seems to be following the vibe of the 'Tusk'-era outtake, as opposed to the 'Mirage'-era version. Personally, I've always liked the lyrics of the song, and Lindsey's guitar (especially as it sounds on the 'Tusk' outtake), but I felt the overall arrangement of both outtake versions was rather pedestrian. I'm thrilled with the new version. To me, it blows the outtakes out of the water. Though I still think they could have done something a little more dramatic with the ending. |

I love Stevies vocal and the verses of the new version...Its just the chorus seems completely improvised and not well thought out somehow...and lingers longer than it should....I dont miss the piano at all....I just wish they would have approached the chorus differently... the funny thing is....If I had never heard the demo...i would probably LOVE this song unconditionally. sometimes thats the raw truth about putting so much energy into some of these demos.....I'm also really trepidatious about the outcomes of RTTG & The Tower, as these have been favorites for years. The Tower is just so hauntingly beautiful and I love it stripped down....AND the opposite is true of RTTG, although I could probably live without the synth heavy mid-80's production....I love its intensity and Stevies stinging overdubbed vocals. I wish someone who has heard an advance copy would post a review of these songs....but they probaly dont want to get barraged with requests to send the songs via Mp3 or e-mail. Oh well....only 16 more days...... |
!
Well Johnny Stew, it is suprising me that people like the new Smile At You so much. LOL I find it kind of boring. I am so missing the old piano intro which kicked ass, very dramatic, and of course Lindsey's scorching guitar licks. Not to mention Stevie's delivery. Oh well, can't please everyone. I'll just be listening to the demo now.
Ahhhh, perfection. Dan:laugh: |

I actually do like the song. If I had never heard the demos, I'd be all over it. I even like that it has a "Tango" feel to it. It's hard to describe how it just misses for me. But I by no means dislike the song, or would even skip over it on the CD. I just think they missed the boat by not putting it on Mirage 21 years ago. Mike B. |

Smile at You needs that piano intro, and that scorching guitar and Stevie's energy. Sure that'd kick off Straight Back. but we could have Straight Back now |
