Pushed back?

I'm getting a feeling that the new record has been pushed back or delayed for some reason. There is zero info (the only thing we get is a tidbit from mick or rumors from this board) and its kind of freakin me out.

The only thing worse than pushing back the record is releasing it with no fanfare whatsoever...and thats what I feel is happening.

Do you guys thing the record company is really behind this project? When the record is released, where will it debut?!

Jen77 01-22-2003 02:07 PM

:wavey:

No, I really don't feel as if the record company is behind this project at all:( :distress: With other bands you hear information about a new cd MONTHS in advance...the only things that I've heard about FM, is from this board, nicksfix, and two radio stations here that know just about as much as we do!

Hopefully they do something to promote this cd and quickly!!!

BombaySapphire3 01-22-2003 02:21 PM

Well it has already been mentioned on the Ledge boards that it has been pushed back to May 6 instead of the long rumoured March release, but we all should be used to this by now,or at least us long time fans should be.

Wldhrt315 01-22-2003 02:30 PM

I am just very frustrated with a lot of things revolving this project. I just don't want to point fingers at any of the band members or the record company. I hope they do this the right way when the album comes out.

I am also in favor of not reading the rumors floating around it anymore because all they are is rumor, we are all getting upset with what we have heard, we don't know what is truth and what is fiction so we might as well not post things we don't know is true just to save our own sanity. I know we are all trying to wait patiently but it's not working so it is easy to just believe what we hear but I am just going to not think about it all and just wait and REALLY enjoy the music when it finally reaches my hands.

CarneVaca 01-22-2003 02:58 PM

Allow me to point some fingers. My first one will be pointed at Mick I-Can't-Seem-to-Control-My-Diarrhea-of-the-Mouth Fleetwood. Most of the rumors, as far as I can tell, have originated from him. He was the one who spread word over and over about a double CD, and now that things seem to be changing, he is conspicuously quiet.

I have some more fingers, but I'll leave it at that.

BlueGrass 01-22-2003 03:32 PM

CHIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

We have been getting tons of info...like what about all those articles and stuff. About what songs will be on etc. Mick's been saying stuff, same with radio stations.

I still think this album will be released in May. The single will come out in like March sometime.

Just calm down, your all jumping to conclusions without any news about a delay. I understand how you guys feel cause this album has been a long time coming.

FiercestCalmSea 01-22-2003 05:15 PM

May?? wtf...that is ridiculous...the album is supposed to be done right...so start promoting already...they took long enough to make the damn album as it is already..and now they are gonna push it back...jesus...I understand they put alot more into their craft than some groups that just release an album every year...but good god...by the time i hear this i am gonna be their age,lol....

BlueGrass 01-22-2003 05:29 PM

What's wrong with May? That is Spring. I think once we get an actual date...it will be pushed back acouple of weeks because that is what always happens.

chiliD 01-22-2003 06:31 PM

Since when has a Fleetwood Mac album EVER come out on the originally announced release date?

I'll be surprised if it is in the stores by JUNE; but that's just cynical ol' me.

There are TONS of factors to take into consideration when naming a release date...# 1 is WHO ELSE is releasing albums a couple of weeks either side of the projected released date. I hear Madonna's new album is scheduled to be released around the same time as FMac's...so they move their release date so that they have the maximum amount of exposure when their album DOES get released.

Johnny Stew 01-22-2003 07:33 PM

I want this album ASAP, but I'm trying to be a patient guy.

I was disappointed when Stevie & Mick both said the album would most likely be released late summer/early fall of 2002, and it wasn't... and I was disappointed that Mick said the album would be released "just after Christmas," and now it appears that it won't be out until May.
But... at the same time, I try to remain cognizant of the fact that no official date has ever been given.
Very rarely is an album ever released when the artist predicts it will be.

It's never a matter of, "ok, the album's finished... let's release it next week," though we all wish that were the case.
There seem to be a lot of politics on the business end of releasing album, and a lot of things to coordinate.
Once the album is finished, turned in, and approved, the band (and all the "business people") still needs to hammer out a tour itinerary, arrange photo shoots, approve the album artwork, pick a single, review, choose, and approve video scenarios, set up the video-shoot, schedule interviews with the various media outlets, etc., etc.

And I'm sure the dilemma of whether or not to release a double or a single album, caused a bit of a delay.

I suspect that in a matter of weeks, we'll be inundated with all kinds of info all at once... album title, track listing, tour-dates, and then some.
Of course, that's little consolation to those of us who are dying to know something now! :)

re...

Good points Johnny Stew. But even with all things considered...
the album should have been released last week!!!!!!!!!!!!

wetcamelfood 01-22-2003 07:53 PM

Remember that TISL actually came out on May 1st in '01. In fact I think I can think of a few FM/Stevie albums that were released in May for that "season's sales".

So May does seem like the time labels consider it to be a "hip and happening" time to release stuff. Who knows WHY labels think people will decide "oh it was released in March so I'm not going to buy it, if they released it in May then in that case I would have bought it but..." is beyond me! Even if people DO prefer to buy albums in May as oposed to March, heaven forbid they wait 2 months to get their money (if it isn't relased until later then they have to wait until then to get their money ANYWAYS so I don't know what they think they are "saving" by doing that). :)

Just a thought. :)

John

Mike B 01-22-2003 08:23 PM

I can kinda see waiting to release it as close to summer as possible. It seems like a May date is a little better than say March or April in terms of generating the push needed for the tour.

Yes, we will! :) I'm just waiting for that deluge of new interviews, new photos, and tracklistings to hit us. I remember there were so many Stevie interviews during the TISL release that I could sit here for hours reading and listening to new details. It's gonna be great.

And I can already see that one post on the Ledge announing "Peacekeeper (or whatever)- Full Tracklist!" ...and me trying to keep myself from reading it for about half a second...and then reading all the juicy info and spoiling myself silly. :)

It'll get here. God knows it feels like it's taking forever, but it'll get here.

John Run 01-22-2003 09:38 PM

I can not agree with Blue Grass more. Chill Out !!

Who cares if the record company is behind it? Yes, we would like it now, but we don't. We know the band has finished an album and at some point in the future we will have over a dozen to nearly 20 new FM songs. It is music. Made to be enjoyed. We have no control over anything except our choice to buy it when it comes out.

ShangriLaTroubl 01-22-2003 11:15 PM

I mean HOW MANY times was TISL pushed back...I remember it was like Oct. 99 one time, then SOMETIME IN 2000, and then winter 2000, and then april 10, and THEN MAY 1ST....i was surprised it ever came out, and i do remember, February is about when everyone starting finding out the hardcore info on TISL also...soo

I heard a little news today (oh boy?). The mastering was done in about three weeks' time, but apparently a vocal got redone just a few days ago (owing to a change in lyric). I don't see why that would delay the release, though, but as you all have pointed out, when you're dealing with Fleetwood Mac, you just ... suffer. Plus, Stevie & Mick & Sheryl aren't the only ones in Hawaii. Mr. Buckingham left for the islands this morning & plans to return February 10. Maybe he's sick of the album already.

chiliD 01-23-2003 12:43 AM

With as much time as Lindsey spends in the studio, I would ASSUME that by the time the album is deemed "finished" and handed over to the record company for release, he just wouldn't even want to HEAR those songs again, much less rehearse 5 hrs a day for two months and then PLAY those songs 4 nights a week for another YEAR or two.

Plus, his going to Hawaii is a good way to get rid of his "Studio Palor" and get some color in his skin. :)

estranged4life 01-23-2003 01:09 AM

Well...

I wished if would come out sooner like everyone else, But at least there is a light at the end of the tunnel for 'Mac unlike another band I listen too (Been waiting for "their newest" release since it was rumored for release in Feb. 2000...Still no official word/release date from the "red-headed one".)

...So a couple of months won't kill me, Besides May 6 is cool with me (A week later for the release would make for a cool birthday present...), Brian "Use a lil' Patience" J.

Janet 01-23-2003 01:33 AM

I don't think anyone understands.

We get the Dance...all the promotion, its everywhere.

Right after that we hear about 1. Stevie's Enchanted and Lindsey's solo album.

Stevie's thing came out in 1998, like a good girl she put that out, she knew what the Dance did to her career.

BUT LINDSEY, its 2003, and NOTHING.

Im tired of waiting and its just crap to even think or guess a date because whatever we want give it another 6-12 months because of whatever cruel fate we have all been dealt I wonder if we'll ever hear anything again, except for good ol Stevie who at least puts albums OUT.

I need to chill yes but I have been waiting a LONG A** TIME!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully the band is just enjoying a few weeks of rest and relaxation before the world tour, and the media blitz everyone's wishing for. :)

chiliD 01-23-2003 03:31 AM

Exactly!!

That's the problem with recording an album...its done so far in the background, that most people just don't realize how much work goes into the process. After all that work, and knowing what is coming up with regards to a long tour, a few weeks of lounging & catching up with family and friends is well deserved Plus, getting AWAY from music altogether, so that when tour rehearsals start, the songs (hopefully) are somewhat fresh and exciting to play...because they'd get pretty stale, if not.

Of course, I still don't believe that only playing 2-1/2 hrs a night to an already enthusiastic, if not over-zealous, audience, 4 nights a week, staying in luxury hotels, being driven around in limousines, flying First Class airfare from town to town, having a 100+ person road crew schlepping, setting up the equipment, tuning guitars & keyboards for you, is "hard work".

*I* still equate "touring" as playing in seedy dives 6 hrs a night, 6 nights a week, months on end; traveling from gig to gig in a barely running Ford Econoline van, sitting on top of amplifiers (with the handle up my butt) for miles upon miles (which is why I prefer DRIVING!), getting NO sleep (hence overdoing the stimulants of all sorts), just barely making it to the next gig and hustling to set up our OWN gear and have the PA working properly and all the guitars in tune by "show time", then having to entertain a ambivalent, yet drunken, audience...having to "prove ourselves" night after night.

album delay

Album delays are old news to us long-time FM fans=:-)

Carne-I agree with you re: Mick-Mick sometimes has his own version of reality, shall we say-hehe..

I hope though that Warners does something to promote this album. We want it to sell.

Didn't I see something on Mick's board about a photo shoot? Or maybe that was hot air too=:-)

Pushed Back???

Why adore these ppl when they toss us around with rumours and delays???Because they Procrastinate but...ARE GREAT!!!
Hang in There!:DIt's already been 15 years!hahaha! Luv Ya',Sky:)

joe 01-24-2003 10:05 AM

I think a lot of you are newer fans than myself. Anyway, i've been a fan for a little over 20 years and there has been delayed releases and rumours about stuff since back then and i'm sure even before that. I guess you just harden up to it through the years. For some reason it's not bothering me as much.

Back in around 1984, Rolling Stone had a short article with Lindsey and he said that FM was most likely going to release an album in 1985. Well, obviously it didn't come out till 2 years after that. Also, Stevie was supposed to be dueting with Bob Seger on a song for the RAL album which never happened. FM was supposed to play some gigantic concert in the late '80's and it never happened. I think Stevie's Street Angel album was supposed to come out in 1993 and it didn't till 1994. FM was supposed to be recording a "blues" album in what turned out to be BTM. Oh, there's also the European legs of tours for Enchanted and The Dance that never happened. So......that's just some history of delayed releases and rumours over the years that i remember personally.

Therefore, i totally take everything i hear with a grain of salt regarding them. Plus, i'm not as obsessed with the newer releases as i used to be in the past.

I also remember reading rumours that Fm was supposed to play Russia in 1978 or so and that never happened either.

same for me but add 1 more day!!!

Wldhrt315 01-24-2003 11:11 AM

Thanks Joe for that post. It does shed a lot of light on their past processes to help identify the problem at hand right now. I kind of feel more at ease just reading your recollections over the past 20 years. Yeah we all want new music, that fact is naturally accepted among all of us but I guess what we have to open our eyes to and remember is their trend. It will come out and it will be awesome for all of us die hards and in 6 months the annoyance of this delay will fade out of our minds and only the music will stay.

joe 01-24-2003 12:55 PM

Also, for me the anticipation of ANYTHING is always more exciting than the actual thing i'm anticipating. When i go to a concert, for example, i'm usually not as happy that day. weird huh? i guess cause i know it'll be over soon.

Anyway, consequently, as a result, therefore....i don't mind this "waiting". i can wait another 6 months if i have to! Also, i need to save up some money for the concerts. I live in an area just north of NYC that allows me to see FM or anyone several times when they come to the area. Plus, i'm going back to school next week and it would be great if they could come around in the summer so it doesn't conflict.

I know that once the concerts are over that'll be it. And that's ok but i'd rather be in this "timespace" than that one.

joe68 01-24-2003 01:05 PM

Hmmmm...

This to me does not hold out much hope for a FM May 6th release date...

Steely Dan Embraces 'Everything'

Legendary jazz/rock act Steely Dan has put the finishing touches on a new studio album, "Everything Must Go," due May 6 via Reprise. The set is the follow-up to 2000's "Two Against Nature," which was the Donald Fagen/Walter Becker-led group's first album since 1980's "Gaucho." "Two Against Nature" went on to win the Grammy for album of the year and has sold 1 million copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

In marked contrast to Fagen and Becker's notoriously methodical recording pace, "Everything Must Go" was wrapped up in about a year. "We went for live tracking this time and got great, in-the-pocket tracks," Becker said in a statement, adding that the album was recorded on analog tape. "It's mad: it's wiggy: I love it," Fagen concurred.

Fagen and Becker are backed on the new set by drummer Keith Carlock, keyboardists Ted Baker and Bill Charlap, and guitarists Jon Herrington and Hugh McCracken. Beyond his usual bass and guitar duties, Becker takes the mic on one as-yet-unnamed tune, marking his first lead vocal in Steely Dan's history.

Despite its critical acclaim, "Two Against Nature" didn't generate any hits along the lines of the "Gaucho" favorites "Hey Nineteen" (No. 10 on The Billboard Hot 100) and "Time Out of Mind" (No. 22). Indeed, backstage at the 2000 Grammys, Fagen told Billboard any new Steely Dan music wouldn't likely be influenced by any modern tunes. "I haven't listened to the radio for, like, 30 years," he admitted. "I still listen to the same jazz records I listened to in high school, basically."

The group is expected to tour in support of "Everything Must Go," but no dates have yet been unveiled.

"This to me does not hold out much hope for a FM May 6th release date..."

No, and it also shows how an "aging" band can still crank out more than one good album every 15 years .

It's funny, I think it was at around this time last year (possibly a bit later) when I did that "Place your bets on the release date" thread, and we got guesses as early as May 2002, and the latest "pessimistic" ones were September/October...........how wrong we all were!

I don't know, it is very annoying that "Spring 2003" is getting closer and closer and yet we have had hardly any official news. But if Lindsey "has the greatest case of obsessive compulsive disorder when it comes to ensuring that albums are perfect" Buckingham has packed and flown off to Hawaii for a bit of surfin' and dancin' with his Mrs. (or someone else:D), then it gives us hope that everything has gone to plan.:)

Cristian 01-26-2003 02:14 PM

What I think...

The kind of thing that makes me be more worried is that everything we've known... we've known it from here. I mean, I haven't read any site, anywhere else, except for the sites handled by fellow Ledgies, with info on the album. And the info that they reunite is the same that we've been sharing and commenting for the past time. There's no official world, at least not from the company. That's what's worrying, I think... Not having any kind of official info, more than "an album is coming". Why not giving the title away, tracklisting, cover... just one of them. A concrete word that would make us say "oh yes, NOW I believe it -- they are releasing an album". To me everything is still in the air. :(
