stevie's saddest lyric
I thought this might get some fans thinking. my choice is..
''and not all the prayers in the world could save us'' |
From the demo, The Tower...
"Don't take me to the tower, and take my child away..." Oh, man...that's sad.:( ~Angela~:wavey: |
I have to agree, the Tower has the saddest lyrics...what a devastatingly sad song!
|
I definitely agree with the Tower....truly sad.
Also the lyric from "Ghosts": "To feel the empty spaces she's feeling She depends on her music like a husband And she knows it's no good to fall in love again" This kills me every time I hear it. |
al of Storms...
and the part in Beautiful Child (closer to the end) when she sing "I wish that you were mine." It's not so much the words, but the way she sings them.... :( |
:wavey:
Can someone please write out the lyrics to the Tower?? thanks Jen:cool: |
i COPIES THIS FROM sARArHIANNONS SITE (many sites have demo and outtake lyrics):
Stevie Nicks Demo Don't take me to the tower... And take my child away... Twas I who was the hourglass And sands of time like shattering glass Went past me... Like a tunnel to the sea... And I who went to sleep in tears Woke up in tears for all of the years... And I had said goodbye before and then... I said goodbye again... And when you hold yourself and know that There were two... Now only you remain... You'll close your eyes and travel back... Through the time when the light went fading fast... And the words you'll never, never forget.... As I slipped away... Goodbye, baby... Goodbye, baby... Goodbye, baby... |
"She is dancing away from you now...she was just a wish, she was just a wish. And her memory is all that is left for you now."
-OR- "Now I know Well, I was wrong To live for a dream If I had my life to live over I would never dream, no I still wish you gone And I will live alone Yes, I will live alone" -OR- "No one knows how I feel What I say unless you read between my lines One man walked away from me First he took my hand" --- Oh Linds, why'd you let her marry Kim? -OR- "And now you're gone and I'm alone, and I'm so lonely Nothing seems to be the same One day I turned around and you no longer loved me" -OR- "Sits across the table...same glass table And she cries to her friend, "Why am I so alone?" He says, "Woah, woah, baby...oh, my baby You have to know...you have to know" |
The Tower definitely ranks up there. I don't know if I could pick a "saddest" lyric, but here's a few that come to mind:
"He watched from the corridor, watched from the corner of his eye seemingly waiting for the time when her castle walls would all fall down..." Like someone that you once loved is now waiting for you to screw up and will be happy about it. Not so much sad as it is just upsetting when put into context. "She is dancing away from you now, she was just a wish...and a memory's all that is left for you now." Someone died, you only have their memory left. "The people, they love her, but still they're the most cruel." Again, more upsetting than sad...the people who love you most are the most critical of what you do. "So I ended it all for the both of us, I fell down the stairs, a broken rag doll." Someone committing suicide is never a nice thought... |
"So I ended it all for the both of us, I fell down the stairs, a broken rag doll."
Sorcerer, Which song is that verse from? Thanks, Brett |
oh every thing on space needle. most stevie songs have some feeling of hope on them but this one doesnt i cried the forst time i heard it. ive heard its about kurt cobain (RIP) and all that. oh god its depressing tear...
|
Brett, that line is from Street Angel. I really REALLY used to hate this song, and I still think it's not nearly the best musically, but I just liked the story of the song.
And yes, I completely forgot about Space Needle... We've got to get out of this place If it's the last thing we ever do A haunting song from the rock and roll past Ooh, they said that too Now we are dying just like them It's a stranger deja vu... And of course: Beautiful faces not so beautiful anymore Getting older is something that really freaks me out, as I'm sure it does to mostly anyone (unless you're a teen). By the way, I'd really like to know what "the tarp people" is all about...anyone know or have an idea? |

Even still Adam, what the Hell are the "tar" people?
|
The "tar" people?? lol, wth?
I always thought she was saying the "dark" people....? As in depressed. I'm gonna have to go listen again, lol. ~Angela~:wavey: |
"Rock on gold dust woman, take your silver spoon, dig your grave..."
That whole song now that I know what it was all about. 'Love Is'. The entire song. 'Sara' makes me sad. But I love it. |
>"The TAR People Are Back Again".....
>I guess no one really knows? Tar is another name for heroin... as the song sounds to me like it's about her experience in rehab, "tar people" could refer to heroin users who were unable to stay clean. (I'm thinking of an interview quote from EW mag in which Stevie says that her Klonopin detox was 45 days, and she saw generations of other drug users who underwent much shorter treatment periods come & go) (btw, I think I chose a weird post to introduce myself with, but for the record, I've been a long-time lurker here & post on some other forums around the net. some faces here are familiar, others aren't... hope to chat with you guys often & get to know those I haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet :)) |

Hi Tifanny, You beat me to it, but I also was going to clarify that "tar" is sometimes used as drug jargon, referring to heroin. I wasn't aware until now that Space Needle was inspired by Kurt Cobian, but it all makes sense now!
|
Thanks for the welcome Isabel :).
And PenguinHead... that never occured to me about Space Needle having to do with Cobain. I understood the drug/rehab references, but always wondered why the space needle was mentioned in the song, as neither Betty Ford or Exodus are anywhere near Seattle. Lol. That sounds a probable theory! |
I still hold Space Needle up for interpretation. I think the whole Space Needle thing might have to do with the Seattle grunge movement as a whole, which of course was pretty much led by Cobain. Mostly the whole music industry was filled with dark, angry lyrics, and around this time WAS when she was at her Klonopin height and then biggest weight after rehab. Plus, that's just part of the song. The other part is just about getting older and realizing it...they're "dying just like them," the older rock and rollers. But with Stevie, who really knows? The Space Needle in Seattle might have nothing to do with HER Space Needle. I just really want this song on the new album and hope she talks about it.
Also, thank you for clarifying what "tar people" are. :wavey: |
From Storms:
"Every night that goes between, I feel a little less As you slowly go away from me, this is only another test..." "So I try to say goodbye my friend, I'd like to leave you with something warm For never have I been a blue-calm sea, I have always been a storm..." "Everynight he will break your heart, I should have known from the first, I'd be the broken hearted, But I loved you from the start..." This song kills me. Kristin |

I agree with whoever mentioned the lyric in *Beautiful Child* at the end, where Stevie sings "I wish that you were mine" over and over. There's a heartache in her voice that beats any vocal I've ever heard in any song, ever. *Beautiful Child* is one of my all-time faves of Stevie's songs anyway, but hardly anyone ever mentions it. Isn't there any other big fans of that song here? I used to play the keyboard part over and over, for hours. It's just exquisite.
Oh, and there's some sort-of sad lines in "Sara" (which is one of my other Stevie faves). "Drowning...in the sea of love...where everyone would love to drown" has a magically somber ring to me. And the line "All I ever wanted...was to know that you were dreaming" is sweetly sad. "Poets...priests of nothing" in HAEWAFY seems not only sad, but kind of nihilistic...but I notice Stevie manages to convey a quite dark view without seeming totally anti-love or life. That seems to be a very special talent of hers. |
Yes, I am a HUGE Beautiful Child fan as well. Her vocal is so well done and sounds so fragile, it's perfect for the song.
Kristin |
i LOVE beautiful child! it's one of my favorite Stevie songs.....and that part is so sad.....when her voice cracks "i wish that you were mine..." and she just sounds so sad.
also, one of the saddest lines ever written "and not all the prayers in the world could save us"........that line just gets me every time. it's my favorite part in storms.... oh, and also, in HAEWAFY, she only does this during live versions, and the best one is during Storytellers....but it just kills me at the end when she sings "Priests of.....*looks behind her dramatically and pauses* nothing" i LOVE that pause in between! it's just so....wow,lol. i can't describe it. |
Sara - "And there's a heart beat and it never really died"
Beautiful Child - the whole darned song makes me cry Fire Burning - "there is no fire burning, just a soul crying" Rose Garden - "I've got all these things, all these things but a small gold band, on my finger, on my left hand" |

Sorry, didn't mean to get off the main topic...just thought i'd add my thoughts on this song since there seemed to be a subthread going on... |

duh! it would have been nice if i made reference to what song i was talking about huh? "Space Needle". |
I really hope"Space Needle' turns up on the new album.I thought from the first some of it is about Kobain's death.Would love to hear Lindsey's work on it.
|
even
"It's only me who wants to wrap around your dreams."
-She sounds so resigned and dejected. I first payed attention to the lyrics one night driving along near the coast under the light a bright moon. |
Space Needle is far more interesting to me lyrically than Thrown Down but it puts me in the mind of Joan of Arc- interesting but WEIRD. Ican'timagine it ever being on a FM album.
Hmm, what was this thread about again?:) |
Boo hoo:laugh:
|
I agree with Storms and Beautiful Child for sure...especially from Storms...the chorus...
Every hour of Fear I spend My body tries to cry Living through each Empty night A deadly call inside... That just gives me the chills. I always listen to this when I feel like I need a good cry...'cause it never fails to get me going!! I've felt like that too many times not to be affected by it. The whole darn song though. Beautiful Child...the ending... I'm not a child, I know I will do as I'm told Even if I never hold you...again... Ever had to say goodbye when all you wanted was to stay? That's it, right there. ~Bree |
The saddest lyric for me is on If You Ever Did Believe.
You've left me now and it's seasoned my soul And with every step you take, I watch another part of you go... I continue to build a wall... You were so strong, I fell to my knees... And I don't think I can handle this at all Also the part at the end where she repeats "baby don't leave me, I'm down on my knees". This just kills me because I have been there before. Sean |
- "the timeless face of a rock and roll woman while her heart breaks... the dream keeps coming even when you forget to feel"
- "I would be your only dream - your shining over oceans crashing" it just sounds like she so desperately wants to be EVERYTHING to someone, and damn, don't we all know how she feels... - basically all of storms (that song gets me ALWAYS) but particularly: "I should have known from the first - I'd be the broken hearted - but I loved you from the start - save us... and not all the prayers in the world could save us" - and also Beautiful Child in itself... Ashley :woohoo: |
