Jam sessions with...
Which guitar player (living or dead) would you think make the best jam partner for this guy? I'm thinking SRV or Jimi...
|
In no particular order:
Danny Kirwan Rick Vito Walter Egan Mike Campbell Waddy Wachtel Bob Welch And, if they get into some old '50's R&R roots grooves: Jeremy Spencer Billy Burnette |
For anyone who loves the (way too short!) blues jam at the end of the Mirage-era Don't Stop, they might agree that Clapton would be a pretty good match. At least I think.
-Brian |
I'd like to see LB jam with Bela Fleck. Another good choice would be Mark Knofler.
|
Jam Sessions!!!
My favorite guitar genius would be Les Paul!
Also...Elvis Presley who Lindsey admired! Sky:) |
Quote:
I would also give anything to see him playing with Hank Marvin, my original idol and inspiration. I thought it was very cool that Lindsey chose to almost perfectly replicate Hank's signature "Echorec" guitar tone for "Oh Daddy" on the Dance tour. :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: |
DUDE!!
Mark Knopfler would be AWESOME...as well as Danny Kirwan!!
|
Elvis Costello :-)
|
Jorma Kaukonen and Little Toby Walker.
|
thought about another:
César Rosas:-) (los lobos) |
I've really enjoyed Santana's resurgence, he always seems to be having a good time, so he might be a good choice...
|
Santana's resurgence is good and bad. "Supernatural" sold more records than almost all of his records of the last 25 years combined and it gave him a bigger (and younger) audience. In that sense its good. But too many times, Santana seems like a sideman for many of today's artists and most younger people today do not know how important of an artist Carlos Santana is.
Another good choice for a jam would be Peter Green. |
It is true that Santana seems like a sideman, but it is mainly because today's music is focusing on the image of the singer and not the meaning or style of the music. Which is why having him and Lindsey jam would be one of the best things to see if it were to happen.
Thought of another good pairing...BB King |
I just can't see Lindsey jamming with any blues players. He's even gone on record to say that "blues bores me". (which pissed me off and lost him alot of respect in MY eyes when I originally read that)
I think it "bores" him cuz he doesn't play the blues very well at all. |
I don't think that it's because he can't play it well...it's that blues has a very set style. Most blues songs follow one of four patterns and there are almost no variations from that handfull of patterns. Lindsey likes to try different things and dislikes going back to things that he's done before. He can do blues style music (listen to the solo on the studio version of Say That You Love Me) Plus BB King has broken out of the blues mould enough times that I feel he would be a great pairing.

Technically, ok, I'll bite, a little...but blues is such an EMOTIONAL art form, variation is infinite depending on the individual's playing. Clapton, Peter Green, Buddy Guy, etc, would probably not be as agreeable to your comment as I am! ;) |
I'm not saying that...I am well aware that the emotion playts a big part of blues. Are you saying that Lindsey lacks the emotional power for the style? The main thrust of my argument is that Lindsey is a 'Been there-Done that' type of guy. It's evident in the huge difference between Tusk and Rumours, and even his solo albums. They do retain a basic style, but he rarely does things identical, say like The Rolling Stones' preference for open C tuning and Kieth Ritchards predictable solo's. (for any Stones fans out there, I apologize, but the man does play the same solo over and over again to a degree. I do like Gimme Shelter.)
Besides, this is a theoretical situation for a jam session. Neither person would hold the other to their style. They'd integrate the two in a neat style. |
I don't see LB as much of a blues player either. I wasn't all that keen on his 1980 rendition of "Oh Well" off of the FM Live album. Wretched.
In fact, he was moved from guitar to bass while playing in Fritz b/c his guitar style wasn't a bluesy sound. The only blues player i'd like to see him play with is Peter Green, just because i think it would be interesting to see LB get blown away while trying to play the blues. To me, LB's best "bluesy" song is "I'm so afraid" I think his style would blend better with a guy like Mark Knofler, who uses a fingerpicking style as well. Also, Al Dimeola would be cool. |
I agree. I see Lindsey as a rock and roller. The people who he always mentions as influences are folksy-rock, never any blues. It ain't his THANG, you know.
As far as the emotion, he sure has a handle on that, and he's had enough life experiences that could definitely apply to the blues, but he's just a rockin' man. He likes to be out front doing what he does. Maybe he doesn't care to really work with others that way. |
I just was listening to Prince's "Sign O' The Times" album.
I'd love to hear a live version of Fleetwood Mac doing "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man". That would rock!! |
Prince! Now there's an exciting combination:cool:
another one I thought of: Mick Ronson |
Ugh...Prince. What about Neil Young, or anyone from the CSN and Y group? (Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young for those that are wondering.)
You know, streaming media is weird...I went from listening to Hendrix's 'All Along the Watchtower' to America's 'Horse with No Name' Odd... |
I like the Prince song idea, Steve. That's a perfect song for Mac to try live.
I would like to have seen Lindsey play with Chet Atkins or Merle Travis -- maybe something off "Folk Songs of Our Hills." |
Jam Sessions!
Hi David Darling!!!
How about our man Lindsey with Eric Clapton, Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers, Peter Greenbaum, Mark Knofhlar or as you suggest Merle Travis! I Met HIM!!! Chet Atkins is my country Hero!!!We have everything he put on record!:D What a talented man he was! Lindsey has played with Steven Stills...he is his buddy! Lindsey just doesn't grab at the spot- light...HE hangs Back and Plays for the Song!:cool:Cheers! Sky :) |
MikeD- Prince was the **** back in the 80's with albums like Controversy, 1999, Sign O' the Time and, of course, Purple Rain.
In 1984, it appeared as though LB was somewhat influenced by Prince. Go Insane has similarities to Prince's stuff from that time. LB even had the Prince look back then. |
PS, "A horse with no name" is the ultimate Neil Young rip off.
|
My picks...
would be the following guitarists:
#1-Mark Knopfler #2-Keith Urban #3-John Petrucci & Gary "My musical style changes ALL the time" Moore |
Concerning the Blues (which I like)...my brother is a pretty decent musician. He plays guitar and (mainly)drums. He has always stated that the Blues can definitly be a boring style of music to play, for the rhythm section especially....I am not a musician so I couldn't comment, myself.
take it easy.... |
