Fleetwood Mac Plans Tour Behind New Album
This was posted on Billboard.com today...
Fleetwood Mac will embark on a 40- to 60-date North American tour of arenas and amphitheaters in April 2003, Billboard.com has learned. The group's most popular lineup of Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, Lindsay Buckingham, John McVie, and Christine McVie last toured in 1997 with an arena run that grossed $36.2 million in 44 shows; the upcoming tour will include everyone but Christine McVie. The same lineup's first new studio album since 1987's "Tango in the Night" will arrive next spring via Reprise. A greatest hits package, "The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac," is due Oct. 15 on Reprise. The 36-track, double disc album spans 1975-1997, omitting material recorded by the more blues-oriented edition of the group prior to Buckingham and Nicks' arrival. Nine top-10 hits are included, including "Dreams" (No. 1), "Don't Stop" (No. 3), "Little Lies," and "Hold Me" (both of which reached No. 4). Three tracks are culled from the group's 1997 reunion album "The Dance": "Go Insane," "I'm So Afraid," and "Big Love" (the original version of which hit No. 5 in 1987). Other tracks include "As Long As You Follow" and "No Questions Asked" from the band's 1988 "Greatest Hits" album. "The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac" will also feature footage of the band recording the new album, as well as rare live performances, interviews, and music videos. In related news, Buckingham sings on the cut "The Man Who Loved Women" on Tom Petty's new album, "The Last DJ," due Oct. 8 from Warner Bros. Here is "The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac" tracklist: Disc one: "Go Your Own Way" "Dreams" "You Make Loving Fun" "Rhiannon" "Monday Morning" "Silver Springs" "Say You Love Me" "Second Hand News" "Over My Head" "Sara" "Never Going Back Again" "Love in Store" "Landslide" "Songbird" "What Makes You Think You're the One" "Storms" "Go Insane" (live, 1997) "Tusk" Disc two: "Don't Stop" "The Chain" "Little Lies" "Gypsy" "Think About Me" "Gold Dust Woman" "World Turning" "Hold Me" "Seven Wonders" "Everywhere" "Family Man" "Sisters of the Moon" "As Long As You Follow" "No Questions Asked" "Skies the Limit" "Paper Doll" "I'm So Afraid" (live, 1997) "Big Love" (live, 1997) How great is this news about having footage from the band recording the new album.. plus the live performances, interviews and music videos!!! Woohoo!! I am so much more excited now!! :) Michelle |
WHOA!!!
'The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac' is an enhanced CD with videos, and new studio footage?!? Pardon my language, but... HOT DAMN!!! I'm so happy I pre-ordered it thru Amazon.com last night (using the links here on The Ledge, by the way! ;)). :D Johnny Stew |
I wonder what they mean by it including this "footage from the band recording the new album.. plus the live performances, interviews and music videos". I wonder if it is going to be like one of those "enhanced CD"'s or something? Does anyone know how much "video footage time" an enhanced CD can hold?
Oh well, it looks like the new album WILL be on Reprise after all so I guess we can't do much about getting the back catalog remastered just yet then. John |
.....oooohh....my....GOOOOOD!!!
I am completely freaking in my seat here at work!!! Wait, lemme get up and see if I wet myself..... Enhanced? With footage? Oh sweet rain falling on hot, dry, parched mudbanks!!! Can it be? |
This does sound real coool. I also would think if the tour starts in April, we may see a February release.
|
This is great news, however one downer again for overseas fans, no mention of touring overseas again. :distress: :distress:
Come on Mick sort yourself out, don't forget your roots, and maybe persuade Christine to do a final apperance in the UK ;) ;) |
This is excellent news! Lets just hope Mick keeps his word and they come to the UK!

Thanks for posting that Michelle. I have to admit my enthusiasm for "the very best of" just took a turn skyward.
|
ok what does enhanced mean.

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe this.....awesome news about this package!!!!! I was going to buy this anyway, but now this makes it even SWEETER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fleetwood Mac actually made the news ticker on CNN--I just saw it like a half hour ago!!!! Talking about info from Billboard about a "hefty US tour in April"!! I couldn't believe it....THEIR NAME ON CNN!!! I HAD to sign online and come here, because I knew there would be more info!! I am so so so excited!!! Much more goodies on these discs than we all thought! God I love this band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! :blob1: :blob2:  :blob1: :blob2:  :woohoo: :blob1: :blob2: Stephanie |
Whoa!
Wow! If this is really true - that it will be an enhanced CD with all of those extras - then I absolutley forgive them for not including any new songs or rarities on TVBoFM. And the fact that they'll do something as cutting edge as an enhanced disc? Maybe they aren't as stuck in their ways as we had thought. Welcome to the 21st century, Fleetwood Mac!
And 40-60 dates? Wow again. That sounds excellent, enough to hit alot of markets. I just hope the schedule doesn't wear Stevie out. The TISL tour nearly killed her. ;) And Neil & Pip - don't give up! I've got my fingers crossed for you guys. If this is going to be as massive as it sounds - and since it is, in all likelihood, the last Fleetwood Mac tour - they have to go to the UK. (Well, they really, really should.) I almost hate to read stuff like this because it is so far off. And nothing follows this band around more than bad information - wasn't it Billboard who told us a fall tour was planned? Still, this is great, great news. FM has an awesome opportunity here, and I hope they do everything right. Mike B. Edited to add: Hey...isn't this the first indication that Reprise will definitely be releasing the new album? I know that has been debatable lately, but the article sounds like they'll stick w/ Reprise. Interesting. |
Stevie had a hard time on the TISL tour because it looks like she went into the tour with a cold...by the chicago and mansfield shows you can hear a bit of wrasp in her voice..more so than normal. It progressed into something much worse obviously. The tour itself didnt kill her..it was just the headcold that turned bad with the combination of singing everynight that did her in. Im sure if shes healthy going into this tour..she will be just fine. I bet she is already going to start gearing up.
Just my two cents Alex |
Hawkeye, and anyone else who might be curious... an Enhanced CD can be played on a conventional CD player, but when played in a CD-ROM (or DVD-ROM) drive, there is additional material to access... which can include videos, image galleries, interviews, lyrics, artist biographies & discographies, and other promotional material.
Several albums and singles have been released in this format over the last couple of years... I know I have some Madonna and Foo Fighters discs like this, and a couple others that I can't remember right now. Now, I'm not holding my breath that all of the videos for the songs contained on the compilation will be included... but I'm sure they'll include the key videos, such as "Gypsy" and "Little Lies," for example. Then again, maybe they'll surprise me... but, in the meantime, I'm remaining cautiously optimistic, due to the space limitations inherent on these discs. :) Either way, I'm *very* excited that this is more than just your standard "greatest hits" set. Johnny Stew |
It's really one of the few ways in which this CD could actually be a more interesting purchasing for the die-hard fan (should I say for us Ledgies ;))... Putting together all of those songs without something else (could've been the booklet as well, it was an enhanced CD) would have been totally wrong. But now of course it makes the product more attractive, both to casual listeners and for more fanatic people... :)
 This is really great news, thanks for posting. Song of the moment - Dust |
YAY!!
WOO FREAKIN HOO!!!!!!!
YAY!!!!! *Choir singing* HALLELUJAH...HALLELUJAH.....HALLELUJAH!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!! Thank you FM for giving us LEDGIES a reason to buy the GH album!! |
i'm sorry to be a party pooper again, but for me this is bad news.
if they skip europe again i won't go see them (no way i'm spending 800$ for the plane ticket alone, AGAIN.) and the worst part is that the new album is delayed till next summer. that's almost an entire year away!!! do you really think some videos and pics on the very best album compensates for the longer waiting? i don't.:distress: i'm happy for all you guys who will be attending this tour but as far as i'm concerned i feel i've been ripped off again. badly. |
I know exactly where you are coming from Tommer. I will go to USA to see the tour but that is not the point. I know alot of people who won't. It will be a really poor show if they don't tour outside the US after all the promises
Pip |
There is nothing about the album being delayed until next summer. The quote from the article states the new album will arrive in the spring of 2003 via reprise. That jives with Mick's recent interviews, stating an early 2003 release. They will release the album before they do such an extensive tour.
|
I tend to agree with Tommer on this. And I would add that the footage on the best-of CD will probably be quite limited. With that number of songs, even on two disks, there is likely to be very little room left for any extensive files. Previous speculation about including old videos and so forth is simply pie-in-the-sky thinking.
But take heart, folks. It looks like Reprise is going to put a lot of marketing muscle behind this effort, so you are likely to at least see a new Fleetwood Mac video, perhaps even a behind-the-scenes thing about making the new album. As for the tour itself, I am not even sure that I will go see the band when they come to New York. Prices are likely to be ridiculous, and seeing Stevie Nicks do another antiseptic version of Rhiannon doesn't thrill me. I've seen Lindsey do Go Insane and Big Love twice now, and I don't need to see it again. If this band's last tour is any indication, they'll play the same show every night, rake in their $50 million and call it a tour. They'll do four new songs tops. I'll wait for the video. |
Good news
This is definately better news than what was originally reported. The footage of the band recording the new album is a big bonus. Hey...it's something new!
do you really think some videos and pics on the very best album compensates for the longer waiting? No, but there is always that possibilty that the tour will be extended to include Europe. I'd think that England has more of a chance of this happening and that Christine might be persuaded to reunite for a couple of performances. It's a long shot, but it could happen. -Karen |
Justin's thoughts first hearing about another GH's package...
"This is garbage, get the new album out...FAST." Justin's thoughts about hearing that it will be an enhanced CD... "Whoopty frigggin doooooooooooooo!" |
don't get me wrong...but i sware some fans just like to bitch. Or you just havnt had sex in a very very long time.
just my two cents, Alex |

Now, as for the added extras to the Greatest Hits package... WOOHOO! Just goes to show that they are considering the true fans to an extent. Laura. |

I just knew someone was gonna point that out........
I guess it might as well be you, huh Carne? Now, I shall scurry back to my dark corner before I get smashed like cock roach! HA! Missed me! |
Thanks for explaining what an enhanced cd is-I had no clue. This news certainly makes me more interested in buying the album, but I still long for new songs! or cd recordings of some of the demo, outtake, alternate versions stuff I have on tape:)
I can certainly understand the frustration of the English fans if the band doesn't go there-but I don't see where it says they won't-or did I miss something? I can't wait for the tour, though!! Awesome!! |

I was planning to go and catch the L.A. show if time and funds allow anyway, but seeing as this is most likely going to be the last Fleetwood Mac tour ever (and therefore I MUST see them no matter what), l will be SERIOUSLY p**sed off if I'm (in effect) FORCED to travel at least 6,000 miles and spend probably well over £1000 to see them, simply because they can't be bothered to show up here. I'm LA bound also! They still bloody well better get themselves over here!

As for touring & promotion, I wonder whether the whole promotion model has changed from 25 or 30 years ago. The promotion seems to be the marketing for the album, & the touring itself seems primarily designed to fill coffers (in other words, as a huge revenue generator). Whereas in the old days, the tour was not profitable except insofar as it pumped up interest in an album. "The Dance" album was promoted by the TV concert, & the tour was supposed to just make money directly rather than to specifically beef up sales of the album (which had already sold millions even before the tour started). Does this seem feasible? |

I was quite amazed today when Mrs nodmod found out on the net the cost of going to Boston in April, seems she doesn't mind coming over at at all.
All the time I thought I would I would have terrible trouble persuading her to travel to the USA again to see Fleetwood Mac. But so be it, If we have to come over then that's what I/We will do, but hey Mick sort yourself out and get your band over here to the UK. I have a terrible image in my mind that a European tour will be scheduled to happen after the North American 40 - 60 dates, and after the North American tour has wrapped, there will be a problem, and no tour........................much like 1998, TISL in 2001   |
Well, the only thing I can say about this is why don't we just wait to see what happens? Did anyone really think FM (with or without CM) would be touring or making new albums? And all of the sudden it happened. But there's no point in just giving up hope and complaining now whenever we don't really know what will happen. If anything, FM has proven to be very sparatic. And in earlier interviews, didn't they say they were gonna tour for a long time? Again, saying and doing are two very different things, but until it's done (or in this case, NOT done), I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

Canada likes Fleetwood Mac Too
I hope that the band does come to Canada and plays a few dates. I live in Ottawa and since they haven't toured here at all chances are that I wiill have to trek to Toronto where they almost play. (Except the last tour). Also Can someone tell me why the only Canadian date in Vancouver for the Dance tour was cancelled? I was reading the tour dates and noticed this one date was cancelled and no explanation was given.
|
If memory serves me right (which lately it hasn't), it was RUMORED that Stevie got really upset because she didn't want to do the show, and so they canceled it. If this information is wrong, please someone tell me...but that's the RUMOR (again, I repeat RUMOR) that I heard.
