Discuss. :) Johnny Stew |
yuck
Not ONE new song as a "teaser" for the new album? PLEASE! Yuck! I hope
it's at least remastered, the long, not-edit versions, remixed, something! Maybe some REALLY never seen before pictures, something really personalized with comments, kinda-like Timespace. And what's up with that writer saying that "Silver Springs" was a "minor" hit off The Dance? Didn't it get nominated for a couple of Grammy's??? Pardon me if I seem to be in "bitch at" this greatest hits package mode... It IS a full moon and I AM PMSing;) PS:I wonder if THIS is the "double album" Mick's been gushing about! :distress: |
Well I'm gonna buy it, of course, it will be a nice collection, BUT I want the new one!
The time spent waiting for a new album's release is really great, and I'm glad to be in on this..... But we've been waiting so long! OK, enough whining. I'll be glad to have it. I wonder what the cover will look like? |
While I am a little disappointed that they didn't find space for at least one new tune, I am very impressed with the diversity of the tracks.
Never in a million years would I have guessed that they'd include "What Makes You Think You're The One" and "Storms." Overall, I think this is a very nice little summation of the 'Rumours'-era lineup, and I'm very excited for the new album and the next phase in FM's history. Johnny Stew |
wow!
October 15th release...?!?!
Didn't they say "Christmas time" originally?? ....could it be...??.....a Fleetwood Mac release actually ahead of schedule....?!?! ......... The track list looks good! And if they're gonna be with a new label for the new album I'm not surprised there are no new tracks... I wonder which version of I'm So Afraid (live) they've chosen Christy???....:D :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: |
seteca...
Hmm...I'm having a tough time with this one....Go Insane live....Big Love live...ISA live....Hmm.....somebody, help me out! LOL Bailamos!! ;) Enrique...sigh....
|
Really weird tracklisting. Really. It has all the hits, true but... some choices are odd... like "What Makes You Think You're The One", "Storms" and specially "Family Man". I know it was a single and the like, but "Oh Diane" for instance (not one of my favorites either) was a bigger hit in Europe than the other one and it's not included... Perhaps some other great Lindsey tunes like "Eyes Of The World", "Walk A Thin Line" or even the fantastic and terrific "Tango In The Night" could have been included instead... Just my opinion, people.
Song of the moment - That's Enough For Me |

"Excitement" ain't the word for it .... Once I get my hands on this baby, I'll actually be able to play "Don't Stop" & "Dreams" simultaneously on six different CD players throughout the house. It just doesn't get any better than this, folks ... let's all savor the moment. |
LOL...
with what David said "Once I get my hands on this baby, I'll actually be able to play "Don't Stop" & "Dreams" simultaneously on six different CD players throughout the house."
...Ain't it the truth, Ya can never have too many copies of the same song to play, hehehehe...Even though I'm disappointed in the song selection, I'm still going to buy it, Thats "IF" I have any money left over from the Sir Paul McCartney show the same day. Man the 15th is going to possibly bankrupt me...lol...Brian |

What do you guys think? Lori :wavey: PS: Assuming my theory is correct (and that's a BIG assumption  ), why couldn't they have found some room on there for Angel??? I love that song and would give my eye teeth to see them do it live! I mean, there would have been plenty of room on the cds for that song if they, say, bumped off one of those old, tired, long-winded live tracks of Lindsey's, right? JUST KIDDING!!! **evil grin** |
I know what you mean, David and Brian... but it could be worse, we could be die-hard Heart fans.
Capitol Records is putting together ANOTHER Heart greatest hits compilation. This makes their fourth retrospective in five years, and the fifth of their career! Johnny Stew |

But all in all I have to say I'm disappointed that they're releasing this with no new tracks or anything, especially when their last release, The Dance, was virtually a greatest hits package itself, with a few new goodies. I wonder how they plan to promote it then to the non-obsessed public who don't follow their every move? Are they going to release a single from it, or just hope that people buy it while rooting through a record bin? |
what a disappointing track list...
this album is a 'fleetwood mac for beginners' kinda album. as for me, i'm afraid i'm not in an economic state which allows me to buy a double cd for the sake of the sleeve alone. still, i do see warner's point in releasing it, coz the 1988 greatest hits album needs to be replaced by a new, more current and more comprehensive version. |
Well I know I will be buying it. I'm am very suprised to see Storms on there....love that song

Let's hope...!:) :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: |
I am relieved that I won't be tempted to go out and buy this thing, since I have all the songs already. I shelled out the $40 for Enchanted a few years back for the unreleased stuff, and turns out I rarely play any of those discs. I certainly wouldn't play this "very best" compilation either.
Not even one measly new track? And I've got to say, "No Questions Asked" in a "very best" collection? Who are they kidding? Wow, double WOW!! The Stones are releasing a compilation around the same time, and they are including four new songs. I think I'll save my $25 for that one; I am sure it will be more interesting by far. Also of interest to be released this fall: Tom Petty's new record Steve Earle's Jerusalum I'd like to thank Fleetwood Mac and its label for helping make my CD budgeting decisions that much easier. Oh, and I may finally get around to buying Law and Order on CD. By the way, I've been enjoying the new Bruce Springsteen record immensely. If you don't have it, and you like Bruce, I strongly recommend it. Peace, everyone. |
One strange thing I noticed...
No "Save Me." That was a Top 40 hit in the U.S. I wonder why they decided to include "Skies the Limit" instead? Maybe the band liked it better than "Save Me"?
And yeah, I think it's lousy they're not including ANY new or unreleased vault tracks. I definitely won't be wasting my money. |
Hmmmm, very very odd set of tracks
I personally would chuck off Family man and replace it with either Angel, Beautiful child or 'Cant go back' which was a single Will certainly be buying it |
I know it doesn't say on the track listing, but do you think we might be so lucky to get the "Sisters of the Moon" LIVE version from the Mirage tape? Oh, what palpitations of joy!
That would make the whole collection for me! It probably the studio version though, since it doesn't say it is live. I also hope they do some of these songs on the tour, and MAYBE that is one of the reasons they did this in this way. Maybe it is "Fleetwood Mac for Beginners" because they are hoping to turn even more people on to the older stuff, and then it will be better recieved in concert. I know they must be tired of thar same old, same old. Even Stevie shook things up a bit on her TISL Tour, so I like the idea that we may get things like "Storms", "WMYTYTO", "Never Going Back Again", "No Questions Asked" and "Seven Wonders" (which I LOVE Carne!) in concert again. Sadly, I know Stevie can't do SOTM anymore. That's why I want that darn LIVE Mirage version on CD! |
Silver Springs
Just a quick question about the article...
You know how it says that Silver Springs was a minor hit in 1997? I was just wondering how minor it was. I always thought it was a big hit, because it seemed like it was always on vh1/mtv and the radio for a while, even on the pop music stations. Hearing and seeing it so much then was actually what turned me on to Fleetwood Mac in the first place. So did it chart at all, or was its success all in my head? (I already looked on this site and I didn't see anything about either single.) |
Now that...
would be interesting to see alot of the songs on this "Greatest Hits" that were rarely played live be included in the setlist for the current tour...And where is "Angel" & "Beautiful Child"???...Brian
|
In a word...
LAME! I'm very disappointed in the decision to release this album at all. And the song list sucks. But, of course I'll buy it, 'cause I "have to have it." Will the liner notes say, "This is dedicated to those suckers on the Ledge?" LOL Please don't flame me, just my honest opinion.
Livia :distress: |
I understand the concept of this package; an update of the 1988 GH set & highlights from the box set...BUT, what I DON'T understand is why nothing to reel in the "completists". There's nothing here that hasn't already been released before, so therefore nothing to grab those couple of hundred thousand EXTRA people to make them want to buy this. Boggles my mind.
(and why not just add "I Don't Want To Know" & "Oh Daddy" to COMPLETE the Rumours repackage?) Quote:

Livia!!
Too Funny!! No flaming from me at all. That's the funniest thing anyone has posted in a coon's age! We are bunch of suckers, anyway! LMAO!! |
I know...
what Johnny Stew said is very true..."but it could be worse, we could be die-hard Heart fans.
Capitol Records is putting together ANOTHER Heart greatest hits compilation." ...Darn, I have only 2 of those Heart releases...Must run and buy the other 2...lol...Capitol records seems to be suffering from "redundancy syndrome" again... Livia said "Will the liner notes say, "This is dedicated to those suckers on the Ledge?""... I hope they list each of us suckers individually by name if they do...LOL!!!! |
this album was put together with the general public in mind..not the fans. i think its a GREAT mix for somone who is new to fleetwood mac. And its a very best of album..not a greatest hits..so its going to have songs that were hits and songs that the band just likes and thinks belong on the discs.
I said this before on another forum..and i dont mean to get on a soapbox...but this is a good thing just to get someething out on the market and their named mentioned here and there...a few press articles. Just to get the name out there before the new album really gets going. This will probably help the band more than we know. All of us know that they cant fill an arena of 15000 die hard fans like ourselves...that rarely happens. Yes its a money maker blah blah...i don't blame them for trying to make a living and that dam GH from 88 is kinda incomplete. I will look forward to having this set in my car to play. About the fact that no new tracks were added...we dont know that. They could throw in a freebie third disc on a limited amount that has just a new tune or two. Dave matthews did that with a dvd disc thing. It would spoil the suprise if they told us they were going to include a bonus track you know. Just wait and see Just my two cents ....didnt mean to preach Alex |
Hey, I never thought of that. Maybe there will be a little surprise after all, or maybe that is not the final or complete track list.
Here's to being optimistic. It's all just a foretaste of the new tunes to come. Isn't all this build up exciting? The months leading up to record release are almost as good as when you finally get it! I'm ready to start seeing their names all over again. I hope they are planning and shooting videos as we speak! |

I concur Al. It is a nice package for the general FM fan. Just the right mix....not too much(Chain Box Set), not too little(Greatest Hits 88....didn't capture the whole sound of FM). I like the mix of songs especially the inclusion of World Turning and Seven Wonders. I didn't start buying FM cds until BTM so a lot of my stuff is still on vinyl. Whenever I can get some songs on cd without having to go back and buy the original cd I'm happy. And I don't have a cd burner so I can't "pirate" the songs and make my own copies. All in all I think it's a good thing just for the publicity for FM. I'll buy it and highly anticipate the "STORM"! Joe |
This is garbage, get the new album out...FAST.
|
This is one big, giant, YAWN!!!!
There is no reason to buy this album...... Too bad- they could have really done something great. Oh, well........ |

I have a 45 of Silver Springs...
as the B-side with "Don't Stop." I always thought that was unusual, since every discography of FM I've seen always says it was the B-side of "Go Your Own Way." I found it in a regular old record store too, plain wrapper, with the old palm trees Warner Bros. label on it.

Livia
The SS single that has "Don't stop" on the other side was the WB reissue on their "back to back hits" series when they would reissue old singles for the "oldies but goodies" sections of record stores (when they used to sell vinyl, let alone vinyl singles!). The original pressings of the GYOW single had SS on the B-side. I think on the WB "back to back hits" series version of the GYOW single, "Dreams" was on the B-side but I'm not sure as I don't collect singles unless I can't get the songs on them elsewhere but I think that was it and I think the original "palm tree" pressings of the "Don't stop" single had "Never going back again" on the B-side (in the US anyways). I hope that was of some help. :)

The Beatles: Paperback Writer/Rain 45 The Beatles: Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever 45 The Beatles: Hey Jude/Revolution 45 The Beatles: Something/Come Together 45 Both sides of those singles got equal airplay...and were considered "double A-sides". I think the Beach Boys had two or three, as well, but I can't think of them off the top of my head. The one with "I Get Around" rings a bell, though. |
More "Double A-Sides"...
Queen-These Are The Days Of Our Lives/Bohemian Rhapsody-UK Only
Queen-We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions Definately ALOT of airplay for these 2 great songs... Queen-Fat Bottomed Girls/Bicycle Race Ditto, Plus a great picture sleeve on the original version of the 45...Hehehehe, I remember my brother had that sucker before it was "censored"...Brian |

I own the Silver Springs single with Gold Dust Woman (kick-ass, I don't know WHY they couldn't find room on The Dance cd to stick it on there!!), Over My Head & Go Insane from Germany as well. Even if it wasn't "technically" released as a single anywhere else, to call it a "minor" hit is still an understatement!! Grammy nomination!!!!!!!!!!!! But anyway.........
Lori, good to see you posting, and they are very good words, at that--might I say I think you may be on to something there!! Songs they may be considering blowing the dust off of and playing on the new tour.....hmmmmm........(the wheels are turning and the heart is racing!!) And while I'm not so inspired by the track listing, I will definitely be buying this 2-disc set. If anything, I can alternate between the '88 disc and this set--which one goes in my car and which one stays in my cd player at work!! Plus, like what was mentioned, maybe we'll get some new or never before seen pics and things inside..........I do agree that this IS a best of set.........there are a lot more people included in the "general public" who will enjoy this set, then there are huge, obsessive Mac fanatics like us, who may not be so enthusiastic about this collection (been there, done that many times before kinda thing)....it's a good thing to get them back out there and saying "hey folks, we're still here, here's something to re-familiarize you with our greatest music, we're coming back soon with something totally new--buy it too, and be there on the tour!!!!" I guess I'm just one of those suckers from The Ledge!! I am getting more and more excited every day about hearing and seeing The Mac again!!!!!! Stephanie |
