Who is Judy Wong?

:wavey: Hi!
As I was reading The Tango insert I noticed the
Album Tango In the Night was dedicated to Judy
Wong? Does anyone know who she is? Bye, Sky:)

joe 05-19-2002 01:19 PM

Judy wong was a long time friend and spiritual advisor for the group...if my memory serves correct. I know Mick mentions her in his book. I'll double check. Also, i believe she passed away in the late 80's.

macfan 57 05-19-2002 04:22 PM

Judy Wong??

Joe,

Judy Wong did not pass away in the late 1980's. I just saw Mick's documentary from last year and there were several interview segments with her. As of last year, she was alive and well.

"Madame" Wong was also formerly married to the bassist from Jethro Tull, forget his name, but he had been friends with Mick and John and gigged with them too.

chiliD 05-20-2002 12:50 PM

She was also the person to introduce Bob Welch to the rest of the band.

Jethro Tull's bass player: Glenn Cornick (who also was in Paris with Welch)

Judy Wong!!!

:wavey: Hi!
Thanks for the input ! I think I saw Judy Wong
in The Dance video sitting back by Elliot Scheiner,
Lindsey's co-producer and their pals!:D
Some how I got the idea she worked in Mick's
office when they were making F Mac LIVE...it says
S.C.O.E....Judy Wong!!! Know what that means?
I think she is a very pretty Oriental lady! :)
Thanks for the interest in this question! Bye! Sky:)

tuigirl 05-21-2002 05:19 AM

Also, according to Micks book (Life and Adventures in FM) Judy ran the office of Seedy Management back in the 80's. Looks like she's one of those" behind the scenes" people, who have been with FM from the beginning since the late 60's.

Skylark 05-21-2002 08:45 PM

Seedy Managment...

:wavey: Hi Mich...from France!!!
Yes, I read that about Seedy Managment...cute name that!;)
I see Judy mentioned in very small print on Cover two of TUSK!
Mick lists menue at Chows and then talks about a weird drive thru Hollywood to arrive at The Studio to meet his group and The Dog!
Carol and Lindsey {Buckingham} will / explain all! ????
Mick{Fleetwood}go up stairs to religious meeting hall???? {with}
John {McVie}...Christine...Stevie Nicks...{ His writing is so tiny!}
Then Mick lists others to be present as Greg...Ray...Richard...Bill and
JUDY WONG!!! In a closed session!{Iam supposing to discuss his trip
to Africa and to meet The Dog on the Tusk cover!!!} SKY:)

When did she introduce Bob Welch to the band? it must've been in England in the early 70's...

macfan 57 05-29-2002 10:03 AM

Bob Welch, Judy Wong & Fleetwood Mac?

According to Mick's book, Judy Wong got Bob Welch in contact with Fleetwood Mac in 1971, just after Jeremy left the band.

Macfan4life 07-28-2026 10:55 AM

Judy was considered the mother of the band. Tango In The Night was dedicated to her. Not only did she get an early Fleetwood Mac song named after her Jewel Eyed Judy but she introduced Bob Welch to the band. She was the band's secretary
She passed in 2005.
Could you imagine the stories she could tell.

I cannot recall this but on a Facebook page someone claimed in Mick's book Judy picked the song order on Rumours. Anyone can confirm this?

oh dear, no wonder Stevie had to publicly and loudly proclaim that it was she herself that sequenced Rumours, being the "expert sequencer" she claims to be.

I thought I had read that Judy and Chris were very good friends, and at some point years ago (maybe on here) people were taking the band to task for abandoning Judy and others who had been key elements of the band's success. I thought someone wrote about Judy needing healthcare (dental?) and being very down on her luck when she passed when anyone in the band could have lent a helping hand.

sleepless child 07-28-2026 12:38 PM

I heard or read that she was found passed away in her home. I gather she had been there a bit before anyone found her. I thought I read or heard that Mick paid for her funeral. She played a major role in the Fleetwood Mac family during the Bob Welch to Tusk era. I think after Mirage, the band just sort of dissipated and were doing their own thing and the rest of the "family" got left behind.

Some info on Judy for those who don't know about her:

Judy owned a boutique in SF that many bands used to shop at. She was friends initially with Jenny Boyd, before Jenny married Mick, and that was how she connected with FM.

She was gorgeous, some photos here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/chin...4549695102754/

this shows a pic of Mick at a memorial service for her and it claims the band paid for all expenses

I remember reading somewhere that it was... an 'extended amount' of time, before her body was discovered. Sad.

As a single person, am I the only one who thinks about the possibility of this in our own life?

Street_Dreamer 07-28-2026 04:25 PM

It's too bad Judy didn't write a book. There are so many stories we probably don't know or missed out on not just in Fleetwood Mac but her connections with other musicians/artists/bands.

I am picturing her hippie wild clothing store in San Francisco in 1969. Janis Joplin shopped there as well as the Crocketts. The Crocketts were a drag queen band with future disco icon Sylvester. Sylvester would go on to be a huge disco star dressed as a woman most of the time. 1969 San Francisco in the middle of it all and Judy had this shop along with making Fleetwood Mac tour books while also working as the band's secretary. Not only should she have written a book but there should be a documentary on her life.

Yeah, it's crossed my mind. I guess people can often go a few days (or yikes, even weeks) before being found. bob weston was another one who had been dead for a while before anyone knew...

I actually remember Bob Welch writing us to tell us Judy had died, and i immediately wrote to John, who had just heard from Mick about it, he said it was very sad. I think Bob also told us that Mick was gonna pay for the burial etc at that expensive Hollywood cemetery. we had a relative of Judy's send us a message about her that we put up at the ledge, I believe, because i think initially it was thought that Judy had no family.

It would have been great if Judy had written a book. So many folks w incredible memories and stories...all gone from us now. bob welch never wrote his book (and I had sooo been looking forward to that, he said he was saving his hairiest stories for the book!) Ed Roach was gonna write one about Dennis Wilson and i'd guess there'd be stories about all his time w Chris in there, but ed passed away a few mos ago and i doubt the book will ever be released. I guess we got books from bob brunning, mick, Carol (does that count lol) Ken... and that's it?

i guess LB decided not to write the book..? John never did his book of photos... chris just had that crappy bio written about her... it would have been so cool to get books from all 5 members and then compare memories of certain times etc. I bet they'd all recall things slightly differently.

but we'll never know all the great stories that will just disappear into the ether... :(

Leo Rossi has written a great book about his time with the Mac and other artists. He worked in stage design. He had some great stories about working with Ricky Lee Jones. Also some juicy info about the Wild Heart tour. An accountant was sent on tour to bring down costs and he accused Lori and Sharon of using and mooching off Stevie. Stevie and the girls were not pleased to say the least.

Sounds like a juicy read. Stevie was in horrible shape during that tour. However her looks and body were still in top shape so it was not as noticed as the RAL tour. Stevie said herself that her dad criticized the Wild Heart tour because he thought it should be running more efficient and he left the tour after the first few weeks of the tour. Stevie attributed her dad's comments of him always running businesses. But I am sure he saw things that shocked him. Lori and Sharon were always loyal to Stevie but the mooch had to be Marilyn Martin who suddenly was doing double duty late in the tour both opening with Joe and a third mic stand set up for her during Stevie's set. She did not need 3 background singers.

You saw the Wild Heart tour with me in Pittsburgh. Some speculated she was really ill which led to her confusing performance. Stevie has said that her dad came to her on tour one night and told her she needed to hit the stage and not disappoint fans. He only toured with her on the short 1981 tour and about 2.5 weeks on Wild Heart. I wonder if this happened in Pittsburgh. After a very very rough GDW she said something like "nothing can make me feel better than I felt just 10 minutes ago." It was very cryptic and I always thought she got bad news or something. But it could be she was really sick and of course the drugs did not help either. You can see in the Largo show which was filmed about a week later she was still lethargic but not nearly as bad as Pittsburgh.

sleepless child 07-29-2026 04:29 PM

The wild heart tour was the first time I ever saw Stevie live. Yes, here in Pittsburgh. I was young, so I didn't care or notice much of what was really going on with her then. Looking g back, yes, she was a hot mess that night. I remember her moving the sound monitors on stage. She was kind of all over the place. It was drugs, Joe Walsh, pressure and stress and being overworked. It's a wonder she made it through all of that. And mourning Robin. But it is my favorite Era of hers. I love Wild Heart and all the songs

Where did you read or watch that???

Not in Mick's book, that's for sure. Cause I only found In early December, we sequenced the album.

Maybe its in the second book!!!!!

Edit: I checked the index for Judy Wong in "Play On'. Judy was the hook to Dodger Stadium for Tusk since she knew someone that worked there. During the recording of the album Tusk Mick fell for Sara who was still married but Mick said he knew it was wrong but the attraction was too strong. Mick considered Judy his "white witch" of matchmaking since it was Judy that introduced Jenny to him.

So I could not find anything but did not re-read the book. So someone posted that on the Facebook tribute page to Judy either has inside information or just made it up. Things were so crazy and Mick's white witch could have assisted the band or gave her opinions on the tracking.
