Stevie at the Met Gala

She was there, all in a top hat and huge black ballgown.

I was so surprised when i saw photos of her at the gala on Twitter last night. I first thought maybe AI. The videos and photos are stunning. Bravo to her. The theme was fashion as art. She probably didn't really take on the assignment, but a lot of others didn't either. She did her. And did it well. Also, Sabrina and Stevie sounded awesome on Landslide. Maybe the Stevie Gods heard me when I posted that I was tired of the same 'ol stuff all the time. We got something new and exciting.

Macfan4life 05-05-2026 09:27 AM

I don't know much about the Met Gala but they were talking about it on Stern this morning. They said a much of A list celebrities boycotted the event this year because its sponsored by Bezos.

David 05-05-2026 10:42 AM

She looked spectacular in her high-fashion resplendence. Reminds me of the time she got dressed up for the Melbourne Cup in Australia. A bunch of sillies asked why she was wearing a top hat. Duh. Not only is it her look for 50 years but it’s an opera hat for formal evening wear (and Fred Astaire movies for RKO).

According to a few articles I've read.

Yes, a lot boycotted because Bezos and the administration are responsible for cutting funds for arts, among ICE aspects and various other important issues.

Not really a good time to show your face if you're against what Bezos and the admin stand for.

But also free speech. Bezos bought the Washington Post and sacked the editorial department. They are not allowed to write editorials criticizing the administration.

well..... this certainly reveals the incredibly limited range of Sabrina.
Especially next to Stevie who could and still can harmonize with anybody brilliantly.
It also shows how so many of the younger performers don't know how to connect and hold the attention of an audience onstage just by themselves, without a troupe of dancers and LED screens full of images.....Again, something Stevie absolutely does know how to do (despite that her team has had her using big screens with images for a long time. My point is if you take those props away, she still delivers. The young 'uns....not so much. Except maybe Miley.)

It also reminds us how indiscriminate Stevie is and always has been in terms of attaching herself to whoever is currently popular without any regard for who they are or what they stand for or bad things they may have done. (One is reminded of her gushing about Kid Rock back when he was popular beyond a certain political base-- or how he treated her friend Sheryl. Or all the things Bezos has done as mentioned above).

That's always been one of the big differences between Stevie and Lindsey-- Lindsey could often be too much of a snob, and Stevie often not discerning enough.

Yes i was kind of surprised she did that also. Same w Bad Bunny lol. But hadn't she always wanted to go there? maybe that was the overriding reason she showed up. plus she loves to be in the spotlight.

Macfan4life 05-05-2026 04:51 PM

Stevie does like to be in the spotlight. I was reading that American Horror Story is going to do another season of The Coven (the witches). What are the bets there is another Stevie episode? I would only enjoy it if she got possessed and they tied her to the bed like the Exorcist and they made her head spin around while yelling profanities. Otherwise I am not for it.

In Your Dreams 05-05-2026 04:58 PM

Stevie also performed Gypsy, Edge of 17 and Don’t Stop (Sabrina and a 12 person choir joined her on Don’t Stop) at the gala. The gala has a no phone policy so images and video from the event would only be released through them.

what's with her co-opting Don't Stop lately

sue 05-06-2026 01:57 AM

She looks amazing…the outfit isn’t all black, shades of midnight blue.
That’s wonderful.
And she makes herself vital, which is so important.

Villavic 05-06-2026 08:05 AM

She looked pretty good on the stage singing with Sabrina.

But about her outfit on the stairs, with that big tent, I mean skirt… well I read the point is that the guests are “expected to curate their fashions to match the theme of the annual exhibit, generally in haute couture”. Ok, more than haute couture or fashion, it looks a costume parade to me, especially after watching Madonna, Beyoncé, Heidi Klum, Jordan Roth and even Anne Hathaway whose skirt looked like an Athenian vase from the Age of Pericles.

So compared to them Stevie looked sober, in spite of that big skirt. Anyway, neither that outfit nor most of the others seemed for “the world's most prestigious and glamorous event in fashion”. But I don't know about fashion, this is just my opinion as a simple observer. And I confess that more than laughing, I felt nervous watching that moment, even though they were helping her up the stairs, knowing she'd had an accident a few months ago. It seemed risky. I haven't seen the rest, but I suppose she and those wearing accessories took them off before sitting down in a chair.

The world is a mess and I think she is trying to project some positivity. Her songs are not that sort of anthem that Don't Stop is let alone its positivity about thinking about tomorrow.

She's always on the "Wrong Side" of history due to wanting that spotlight. (pun intended)

Storms123 05-06-2026 03:26 PM

I think it's kind of funny that to fit in with the theme of the night she essentially dressed as herself, on steroids. Now I've looked at a million photos, and did not see Karen on the red carpet or stairs with her. That has to be a first!
ALSO, I really want to know how she got there, in a van, standing up? There is no way she could sit down in that hoop skirt!

SteveMacD 05-06-2026 05:00 PM

Not to be all political, but Stevie is a big tent party.

Thankyou, and bless your beautiful heart David! It's just beautiful to see her smiling into the camera at us! As long as she looks happy, I'm happy!:)

I thought she looked gorgeous. The Met gala is always over the top and I loved what she did. She stayed in her lane, or comfort zone , but went for that over the too feel to it. I'm just glad she didn't show up in her regular stage clothes. With the awful tennis shoes.3

reebokandlace 05-07-2026 02:13 PM

Not sure what shoes she was wearing. I cringed watching her go up those stairs thankful that she didn’t trip.

She looked regal. She truly is the queen of rock.

I hope she just focuses on her music, her health and her magic.

My advice to her: Let go of what is going on in the world, stop rambling at concerts and just go back to creating that space for her fans to run away to that fantasy world for just a few hours. The power of her, Mick and Lindsey together on stage is pure magic. Give us all that magic at least one more time.

That Lindsey is SO MEAN to her. She should NEVER step foot onstage with him again. He's an old mean weenie!

LOL.
If have learned to tolerate your point of view* over the years I am pretty sure they can tolerate each other for a year.

* your biting comments and sarcasm can sting those of us who are fans of ALL members of the band but I know that more often than not you do call it like it is. Harsh pill for most to swallow but there is usually a string of truth to your words. It just took a while to understand where you are coming from. Right or wrong, it is what it is. To be honest with you, for a while I thought you were someone from Lindsey’s camp who just enjoyed taking off the gloves and swinging at Stevie. I’m still not so sure who you are as your comments harbor some deep anger and you pay a lot of attention to someone you cannot stand. But that is your secret, if there is a secret and it is what it is.

bombaysaffires 05-08-2026 05:43 PM

there were pics of her onstage with Sabrina and she was wearing some sort of block heel footwear.... the chiffonheads were going nuts over it saying things like she's back to wearing heels as a normal thing again... to which I shake my head. It's a special SHOW people, she wore it as part of her onstage costume (not the red carpet one). I am positive she is NOT wearing heels in real life. She just didn't want to wear clunky sneakers at a FASHION EVENT.

yes the socials were raging iwth people saying it was Bella Donna blue....and that the whole outfit was somehow a recreation of her bella donna outfit (which if you look at the cover was WHITE, minus the cape)

and then some were referencing it back to the blue "riding jacket" she had with FM like on the Tusk tour that had black piping on it, and which she wore with black skirt and long chiffon scarf-type thing around the top hat and draping down the back.

DownOnRodeo 05-08-2026 07:24 PM

Rumor is her performance concluded with one of her trademark magic acts. After deftly pulling a rabbit from the top hat, she produced five llamas and a flock of doves from underneath the dress. The doves stayed onstage for the Edge Of Seventeen encore.

bombaysaffires 05-08-2026 10:53 PM

Madonna wore a similarly large skirt on a dress for a performance at one of the MTV Awards shows years ago (a sort of Marie Antoinette look) and she had actual PEOPLE come out from it so......

I mean, is it coopting if she was on the album? McCartney opened with “Hard Day’s Night” when I saw him and he did “Something”. I dig that someone with credibility is keeping Christine’s flame going. I mean, if she’s doing “Free Fallin’”, why not “Don’t Stop”?

Street_Dreamer 05-10-2026 09:18 PM

It would be as strange as Lindsey performing Landslide or Rhiannon solo.

And don't forget Rock and Roll. I agree. I don't see a big deal about Stevie singing DS, I mean referring to whether there is a co-opting issue.

But about if I liked it, that's another story. Paul sang "Something" beautifully at the concert I went to see him, and very emotional because of the tribute he was paying George. But I saw Stevie and Lindsey singing DS on the Unleashed tour, and I just watched a Stevie 2011 performance video. In both cases, meh. They weren't bad, but since I think Christine was irreplaceable, I didn't like them very much. Just my opinion.

And performing it over three years since Christine passed away. During those three years she performed on tour a The Buffalo Springfield cover, a Led Zeppelin Cover, a Buddy Holly cover, and lighthouse.
