New album imminent?
Judging by Lindsey's latest post, his new album is coming soon... The sooner the better, as far as I'm concerned. I adored his last one, so I have high hopes for this. Hopefully we'll get some more information soon:
https://www.facebook.com/share/17jj8964ce/ Interesting that this seems to have been filmed at the same time as the other snippets we've been getting on his various social media accounts over the past few months - he's obviously been storing them up! |
"My new album reflects what I’ve learned from making solo records over the last 25 years, and it stands as a culmination of both the ethical and idealistic line I’ve worked to hold."
But what about 20th-century solo albums? |
I Can’t Wait….wait…wait.. I love all of Lindsey’s albums. The last self titled release is up there with Out of the Cradle in my opinion.
|
A landscaper ran into Lindsey in LA a while back and posted somewhere that Lindsey said the album was going to come out in the spring. It's been in the can for a while, waiting to be released.
I kind of wish Lindsey could just release things on his own label, instead of waiting the better part of a year just to release something. |
Anyone know if it's more rock, or pop, etc.?
I'd love some rocking Lindsey. The 50's pop stuff is good, but would love more rockin, or shakin the cage. haha |

Yes my least favorite song of his also. |
I don't like Come either. It's hard to understand artists decision. Why did he include Come in the 2003 setlist, but he never included Tango in the Night in any tour?
Fortunately he discarded Come in the Unleashed tour when I went to see them. |

I don’t like Come very much at all….WTWCT…is okay…
I would say that, as I like SYW… But I don’t like Holiday Road….really do not like it When I watched the film in the 80s with my kids… I could not believe it was Lindsey Buckingham…the song is so rubbish. The lyrics…what lyrics er what lyrics ? (I can still see my eldest having uncontrolled hysterics watching the squirrel, different film I know) |
I would be more than happy to have an experimental album from Lindsey with songs along the line of "Come", "Murrow", and "Power Down". His last few releases have been pleasant, but I'd like an album from him with more guts to it.
|
I've been waiting forever for this album. Now we have to wait till spring ? Why so long?

"Come" bad "WTWCT" just okay "Holiday Road" just okay, but the live version (with extra barking) bad (In 2006 my mother and I went to see Lindsey. When he played "Holiday Road" she said it is her favorite song of his. I had never heard it before.) |

I hate Come (the song, I mean), love WTWCT, and really love Holiday Road. It still gets airplay to this day, which is pretty remarkable for a song that peaked at #82 in 1983! I agree with others who said the barking dogs suck. I can only imagine the thought process Lindsey had when he determined the perfect final touch for the song would be… a bunch of dogs barking. |
As soundtrack of a comedy movie, I liked Holiday Road, though not big deal. But it is just a pop song, and along with Go Insane album, it wasn't such a smart change from the Lindsey I knew, and it was far from the direction Lindsey had been heading since Tusk. Just my perception. OOTC was a good return to the Lindsey I liked.

It was his ethics that drove him to insist that Fleetwood Mac follow up Rumours with Tusk, and to record songs like Come, fully knowing that the majority of the simple minded namby pamby potential audience would not understand it, and that the potential audience were the sort of people who instinctively hate what they don’t understand. And for those of us who think Come frickin’ rules, there is no way to express the gratitude we feel that Lindsey followed his ethics, because if he merely gave the audience what they wanted, we’d have been deprived of some of our favorite music. Lindsey is a dusty artifact of the past. Today’s popular artists wouldn’t dream of doing anything artistically that’s might even slightly alienate their audience. Is not fair to analyze Lindsey through a modern lens, because today’s paradigm mandates that the audience be made to feel like their reactionary opinions in comments sections and message boards actually have value. And the audience isn’t even capable of discussing paradigms. In any case, the video about “the new album” is clearly from at least two years ago, so I’ll believe there’s a new album when I see it. If it does happen, I hope that he stays true to his ethics, and the album contains songs that will be hated by the lame clownshoes who don’t understand Come or who say that Go Insane isn’t “the Lindsey they knew”. It will be glorious. |

But I disagree about qualifying as lame clownshoes the people who dislike or even hate Come or Go Insane. I mean, you like what you like, good for you. Who doesn't like the same as me, that's their problem. That doesn't prove I'm better than them, or vice versa. For example I don't like reggaeton at all, some friends would say I hate it, although I don't think so because I don't like to be a hater. But I don't say reggaeton fans are lames or whatever, I just avoid that music. Now it's interesting you mentioned Go Insane, a song or album released more than 25 years ago. So according to Lindsey words in his post, it wouldn't be included in his ethical and idealistic line he's worked to hold. |
Don't let the lame clownshoes door hit you in the ass on your way out.

Songs like "Come" and "Red Rover" were included on Fleetwood Mac albums to challenge listeners and push creative boundaries. In the latter case, Buckingham wanted to build upon the framework he established with the acoustic rendition of "Big Love" where a single guitar underpins the entire track. This innovation allowed for Buckingham's work on Say You Will to possess the dynamism that an album like Christine McVie's In the Meantime lacked, where the production and songwriting was generally safe and by the numbers.
Certain songs on Buckingham's self-titled release (specifically "Swan Song" and "Power Down") demonstrated a willingness to embrace multi-layered electronic grooves, and that's something that I wish he pursues in the future. His self-titled album and 'Seeds We Sow were a bit too reliant on stiff programmed drums (ie "Blind Love" and "On the Wrong Side", so a willingness to collaborate with some talented bassists and drummers could also propel some of Buckingham's solo work to greater heights. |
None of the above concerns ethics.
An artist who prioritizes commercial success over staying true to his natural creative spirit is not ONE IOTA less ethical than an artist who does the opposite – and it is pretentious in the extreme to claim as much. (Also it's easy for Lindsey, with all the money in the world and then some, to say something to that effect vis-a-vis a struggling artist whose rent money is in question and on the line.) The only "ethical line" Lindsey could be referencing that one might at least consider a legitimate ethical line is no autotune, no pitch correction, no AI. |

As for Go Insane and Lindsey specifying the last 25 years, my impression is that with Go Insane, with "Holiday Road," and perhaps with Out Of The Cradle; Lindsey *was* pursuing commercial success [and understandably so; his solo career was on the line (plus, as I say above, the label had invested money into such projects)]. When the label rejected his would-be 1995 album, however (or perhaps a bit later as he encountered further difficulty getting his solo material released – see article linked below, or salient Lindsey quotes I list from it), Lindsey realized he was not going to have a commercially successful solo career – or, without the "large machine" of FM to help prop it up, even a viable one (a realization he describes in "Castaway Dreams"). At that point I believe he decided he would henceforth make the music he wanted to without any concern for sales figures (an outlook covered in the Destiny Rules documentary). article I reference above: https://www.fleetwoodmac-uk.com/arti.../FMart115.html salient quotes from Lindsey: "I spent about seven years trying to get my material that's on this album placed and heard." "I felt an extreme need to have it have a home and get it out so someone could hear it." "It was difficult for me to find interest in that solo album. If it's Fleetwood Mac, that's one thing, but [if it's] Lindsey Buckingham [then] probably not." "I would be completely happy to continue with this, never to pursue anything solo again. Because it's a hell of a lot easier." [I read "easier" to mean "easier to get my material released this way."] |

I think there are a lot of people (including his bandmates) who feel like this "ethical line" was an overcorrection, and that sometimes he insisted on producing stuff that was the opposite of Rumours for the sake of being the opposite of Rumours. I sometimes agree with that -- I've never liked Come or Red Rover, and get varying mileage off of the stuff on Law and Order and the album tracks on Mirage. I could do without the moans in Big Love and the barking on Holiday Road. There are production choices that I haven't loved both on SYW (Running Through the Garden), and some of his recent solo albums (vocal processing etc.) But he's got the right to make the music he wants. And while I'm a fan, he has to realize that his choices have sacrificed a broader appeal. Though, without the kind of persona and songwriting that someone like Stevie brought to the table as well as her ambition to be a star, he might not have achieved large scale solo success anyway. So, he might as well follow his muse -- he can afford to do it musically and financially. And it's been an interesting ride for the rest of us, and it's likely what has kept his music feeling so fresh after all of these years. |

Lindsey used to post just old photos, memories, and the release of BN. Nothing about the new album, but he (or his media team) was active, posting about once a week on average.
But now he hasn't posted anything in over a month. I hope everything is fine. |

I know many artists don't post often, but Lindsey (or thru his team) had been doing it once a week for a while, and then he stopped in December and hasn't posted since. It's strange. |
One can only hope he's too busy working on his forthcoming album.
