Christine’s London Penthouse Hits the Market
|
Very nice place. It was weird, trying to picture Christine moving about through there. It still seems like a bad dream that she's gone.

Wow, what a cool place. I like the view from the top and the privacy. And neat architectural touches like those beams on the top floors. Very nice and tasteful. Cool location, too. I wonder how much time CM spent here in her last years? And, what shops and coffee spots she enjoyed frequenting that are nearby? Very cool.

Quite lovely.
The article says this is Eaton Place, which is across the street from Eaton Square. These units in Belgravia are ultra-high-grade residences. Historically, some really important people have lived in Eaton Place and Eaton Square: two prime ministers, Neville Chamberlain and Stanley Baldwin, Vivien Leigh (who died there), Sean Connery, Rex Harrison, Roger Moore, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and even Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. This is the London Bel Air. When Christine was in the mood for swank, she was certainly in the mood. |

“She liked Belgravia, because she could walk to Harvey Nicholas and Harrods around the corner, and that’s what she used to always do when she came up to London,” he [Wyatt] recalls.

Speaking of her auctions, I bought one of her road wardrobe cases in the first auction, and it was *very* fragrant with her perfume when it arrived. I assumed this was since it had been closed up for a while and that it would dissipate over time. It has not; in fact in recent weeks it has suddenly become almost overpoweringly strong out of the blue. |

that's so cool that the scent of her is getting stronger! i think expensive perfume/cologne lasts a while... --Lis |

I suppose when I still had my big house, that I'd have put it in the corner of my music room or something. Do you have your things in it, or is it just empty? Sorry, just curious... |
You gotta hand it to Chris, John, and Lindsey. They went very long periods of time where they were not touring or releasing material and still managed to be smart with their money, living very lucratively for their entire lives.

When opened it has one side with a clothes bar for hanging stuff and other side has a series of drawers with labels on them like "makeup" "jewelry" "shoes" "underwear" etc... I had thought I'd put her in a guest room and have it opened up so guests could hang a couple things in it while staying, but I could never bring myself to just clean it out and sanitize it. There are little bits of things like sequins that fell off stage clothes, an old hotel room key, the tag out of something made of cashmere, etc that I thought I would clear out and make it more utilitarian to justify the cost. But I've so far never been able to remove those traces. So I've kind of come to realize that it's actually more of an artifact to just display more than "use", like a piece of history, or a piece of art that you just enjoy for what it is  |

SOMEWHERE I have a response from Bob Welch, saved to a computer, explaining royalties and how they work. Mechanical royalties, etc. I still can't say that I understood it all, but he wrote a rather lengthy response to me. |
