World Premiere of Talk To Me
This popped up in my suggested videos. A few eye popping things here. This world premiere video showcases much more of that body double. The video seemed to be edited to show the real Stevie during (there is nothing here to fear) looking through a glass door. However in this world premiere video the body double is bending backwards. This is a clue that maybe it was too obvious and why there are different versions of this video that vary slightly. You really have to know the video to see these quick edits.
Mark Goodman says the song is top ten yet its a world premiere video. That would suggest its late December or early January. All those delays making the video made it a very late debut on MTV. World Premiere version. Body double in the beginning but not at the end. Much more Stevie singing at the microphone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mExbLgmb6Zc Edited version which is the most common one. Notice the body double only appears in the end. Less close ups of Stevie overall https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQl62w71Ets |
Sorry I don’t see any “body double” in this video of Stevie.

At 3:19 in the edited and official video you can see her dancing in the background. Its clearly not Stevie but it's implied that it is her. She is dressed like Stevie. |
I kinda think it’s her…….

The Talk To Me video was a mess from the beginning. Shooting delays and she was such a mess which is why so much of the video is shot from a distance and her face is not clear except for the close ups of course. |

Maybe it's just because I've seen it fewer times, but I much prefer the 'world premier' version of the TTM video to the standard one. Just as I much prefer the Japanese version of the SIAB video, which has many different cool shots of Stevie twirling, staring into the camera smolderingly, etc. |
I do remember one clip I never thought was her in the video from day one but I quess I was confused on which one that you were referring to.
|
the supposed body double is in the white outfit.
You can see Stevie's original teeth in this video (apropos of the discussion of her teeth and her lisp in the other thread). Her top two front teeth here are larger (can see in the closeups, good example is around 1:24). When she got veneers they were made smaller and more the same size as all her other teeth. |
I am hesitant to comment on this, as my memory is horrible, but I could swear I read an interview with the girl (now woman) on the Nicks Fix years ago, and she said she was 12 or 13 at the time, and that she was the person in the dining room scenes, which is seen mostly at the beginning. You’ll note all you can see is someone in a black dress with a lot of blond hair, but you can’t see any of her face. I think she said she never met Stevie, at least not on set. I don’t remember her saying she appeared in any other scenes, including the scenes with the white dress. That really looks like Stevie to me.

I searched YouTube but am not finding the interview with that girl...was her name Kara?
https://www.reddit.com/r/stevienicks...ks_talk_to_me/ "We worked together many many times, from Fleetwood Mac “Mirage Live” to her first solo concert, “Belladonna” to “Red Rocks,” from “Talk To Me” and “I Can’t Wait” to Fleetwood Mac “Seven Wonders” and more. This pic might look like we were just hanging out, but it is actually me giving her direction on the set of the “Talk to Me” video. The reason I am on the floor with her is because it was difficult for her to get up in that dress. The video actually has a back story. We built all these elaborate sets. We brought the art director (Bruce Hill) and the make up artist (Derry Hawes) in from England. It was unbelievable and ultra expensive. The night before the video Stevie got really sick. She was sick for days and we had to tear down all the sets because Raleigh studio needed the space back. We rebuilt 2 weeks later. Insurance covered a portion but not all of it. I won’t tell you what that added in cost. Ultimately it came out great and features her brother Chris playing the sax and dancing with her. She remains a force, and what she has added to culture will forever be cherished. I’m honored that I got to capture and help her mold a lot of it." |

Stevie is only shown from the waist up when its close. The shots of her are so far away when its full body. She had gained weight but she definitely was not fat. But the video sort of highlights what a mess her career and personal life was in 1985. Her Wild Heart videos were good. Her RAL videos were crap. Drug addiction is really scary. Just imagine the money she spent on renting studios and never showing up and they creating a full music video stage that had to be torn down because she could not make it. The reason why they said Stevie is on the floor and cant get up is a bit ridiculous. You can sort of see why there was literally no promotion for this album. It was all so dangerous. They kept Stevie far from the public eye. You can also see why her management forced her to rehab. |

I was 15 when the Talk To Me video came out. As a rabid fan we all had been waiting years for this album that was always delayed for release. However at the end of the video when Stevie purposely holds up her hand to showcase her neon, fingerless Madonna gloves I cringed. Stevie had jumped the shark to a pop star or at least her people tried to make that leap. I can almost hear the director say "ok, Stevie....hold up your hand now to show everyone how hip and cool you are. Show off that neon glove
It looks so unnatural and so staged that even at 15 I cringed. Inside my head I was yelling NO NO NO DONT DO THAT. I think the beginning of the video was sort of a rip off from Gypsy and trying to rekindle that magic. That cheezy dancing of her and her brother is ridiculous. You can almost understand the frustration "lets just get this done." |

Technically she could be both, video technology was already capable of putting double images since the 70s or before, they could even put Stevie's villainous twin sister. |

I remember all the jokes about "why is she banging her head on the floor?" in the scenes where she's thrashing about. Agree it has a lot of same flavor as the beginning of Gypsy. Isn't that weird? |

Its something that satisfied the record company. It's shocking how late the video came out. It almost was a waste of time and money. On another note, things don't get much better for I Cant Wait. Her brother and the rest do equally bad step dancing. The special effects are so bad and cheap that they show them going in reverse. I think unconsciously Stevie was so out of control which is why she brought her brother into her solo career so much in 1985 and 1986. He was given a co-write credit, appeared in both videos, introduced her at concerts, and started doing her tour merchandise. |
The girl in question is Cara Cooke. She was a Georgia teenager. Cara was interviewed on a local access channel about the experience. She was a taciturn young woman who had nothing to say (except that she had a crush on Benmont Tench) and she giggled a lot. There’s also some raw footage of Cara twirling with a counter on the frame. Somebody at Frontline got her in the video.
As for the world premiere cut, I think I prefer that to the final. It’s a little messier, but it has more of the footage I like. |

Cara Cooke is the answer to the ultimate Stevie Nicks trivia question :) https://www.ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/s...ad.php?t=26582 |
Now that the name is mentioned, I found this page about a compilation:

I was quite close with the name, "Kara." Thanks David.
Super cool watching the original edits of this video, and in the background, Brad Jeffries and SN are having a swing dancing moment... Wonder who, if anyone, has the outtakes from this. Do we think that she does?? |
If I'm not mistaken, the Crystal Visions DVD that had Stevie doing all the commentary for her music videos, I think she mentioned in TTM that the girl in the Candyland set was not her but a girl. But looks like it was already figured out in earlier post.
