Will there be a comeback tour?
Will there be a comeback tour?
Will the Say You Will line up of the band reconvene one last time? Why/why not? Real Music Observer blog/YouTuber thinks so, but someone I doubt it, even though he has been right about other things before. And before someone jumps down my throat, yes, I'm aware this has already been discussed in other threads but I could not find a recent, dedicated thread on the subject in the Rumours forum. James |
Stevie’s tour dates currently stretch into March 2024 (March 19 in Arlington TX). No word yet on Lindsey’s latest plans for a solo album, but he has a solo appearance booked for a charity event.
Children get older, and THEY’Z ALL GETTIN’ OLDER TOO. The bow and stern lines have been untied and coiled, the fenders have been pulled up, and the SS Retire is pulling away from the dock. |

Retirement seems likely. But Stevie once said "it's never gonna be a farewell tour until one of us drops dead", which sadly, Christine did. :distress: If Christine hadn't succumbed to her cancer, unfortunately, maybe there could have been a farewell tour with Rumours 5, she seemed somewhat interested had she not had her back condition/cancer, in her latest interviews prior to her death. And I was listening to the Peter Green tribute concert - her last public performance - Christine sounds great on Stop Messing Round and Looking For Somebody. |
I seriously doubt it, and really hope they don’t. Just let it be over.

Agree with you that it's both unlikely and not a desirable event. The only good thing about it is that it would be nice for Lindsey and Stevie to mend their burnt bridges and for fans to see them perform together one more time - but this could be done as a duo, just doing Landslide and Big Love ... again, also unlikely, but more to my enjoyment than an almost full band reunion. |
Agree it's unlikely and not a desirable event. Personally, I wouldn't go to a concert cause I know I wouldn't enjoy it. Not anymore.
Nice for Lindsey and Stevie to mend their burnt bridges? Definitely yes. I always think that resentment and bad feelings should be eliminated, chapters must be closed, etc. It is not healthy to live with bitterness towards anyone. But if they solve their issues, it is enough (to me) that they do it privately or enough sharing a post on the networks telling the fans. No tour needed. |
I say no. The top reason is Lindsey reportedly did something to Stevie so unforgivable at MusiCares 2018 that she doesn't want to see him again.
I also don't think Lindsey or Stevie have the energy or vocal power to put on a 3 hour show worthy of $400 admission. John McVie is 78 years old and he's not a Jagger or Rod Stewart 78. Stevie will do more athletic venue shows with Billy Joel in 2024 and her own indoor shows in between like she's doing now. |
Yes, there will undoubtedly be a final farewell reunion of the Say You Will lineup. It will happen sometime in late 2024 or mid 2025.
The tour, in whatever capacity, will either be very short, or a series of sporadic dates similar to what Stevie is doing right now. There will not be many dates, but a reunion/farewell of the Say You will lineup is inevitable. It will happen. |

With Christine dead and John retired, Mick won’t do Fleetwood Mac. |

ETA: The bigger issue is Stevie. I don’t think she would feel any obligation or pressure to go out with Fleetwood Mac without the McVies, and she doesn’t need or want to work with Lindsey. |
There’s no point in a Fleetwood Mac without any Mac’s involved. Chris is dead. John is seemingly retired. If Stevie wasn’t able to sell out arenas and coheadline stadiums with Billy Joel, she (and Irving) would likely be pushing for some weird ass Fleetwood Mac amalgamation with randoms involved along with Stevie and Lindsey - but that isn’t the case. They’re too old. Maybe the two children share a stage again for a few songs but the days of touring as Fleetwood Mac are likely done. And they should be. Nothing else needs to be said.

Wonder what Lindsey did at MusiCares that was so bad. Honestly, I reckon Stevie and Lindsey just never ever stopped hating each other's guts since 1977 and after 50 years, she and he didn't want to work together - and Stevie was the one with the power so she got to stay. |
Well I’m not speculating on a 40 date North American tour.
The reunion will be short - a few sporadic dates. And John “sold all his gear”. Is there no money to buy John a bass guitar and some “new gear” and let him sit in the corner and play it? Nope, he sold his gear and there’s not another bass to be found. Heck - with the new technological sound systems for concerts — no one technically has to play anything. 6-10 dates, wheel them onstage with some backing tracks and call it a day. It’s not even about playing. It’s a way to close the book and say a proper goodbye. When the Say You Will lineup reunites for a few concerts, it won’t even be a surprise. This band is so predictable . I can hear the speeches now. |

Since Christine left us, I’ve decided I’m kind of done with Stevie and Lindsey. Their inability to be professional with each other coupled with Irving’s greed killed off what was an amazing band. I wish they both would have left after “Tusk” and Mick, John, and Christine carry on without them. I guess I could also be mad at them for not collectively demanding they get their $h!t together and commit to the band or leave, but arena money and adulation is a helluva drug, I guess. |

I also think if they did tour but John declined to join them, that he wouldn’t try to stop them by refusing to let them tour under the name Fleetwood Mac. John doesn’t strike me as that petty a guy. |
I propose an hour of John and Mick phoning in the rhythm part to Tusk while Stevie and Lindsey chase each other around the stage hurling objects at each other. Get Laurie Anderson in to direct.

And about the proper goodbye, mmmm it must have been with Christine few years ago. I think it’s too late now. My opinion. Quote:

I thought John not doing the Peter Green tribute show said it all with respect to his desire to travel around in a touring capacity.
|
I don’t think they will tour, I certainly wouldn’t want them to tour.
They are too old..full stop. But I would like one last concert with the remaining four on stage. Just to say goodbye and embrace what a fabulous group they once were. And I think they had better do it quick. |

Also, John would have had to pay for his own travel for that tribute. For a FM tour, traveling would be arranged for him. It’s not that I think he’s cheap, I just suspect he didn’t have any desire to pay tribute to Peter. |

Paul Simon was on Howard Stern this week and it was a fantastic interview. He said something that really applies to Fleetwood Mac. He was discussing when Simon and Garfunkel were breaking up. The record company was furious because they were the biggest sellers of albums worldwide. Paul said all duos break up. But then Howard pointed out when the breakups happen i.e. The Eagles, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards they always get back together.
Paul said they get back together NOT for the music but for the business. There is a huge difference. Besides Buck/Vie all Fleetwood Mac tours were not about the music but about the business of Fleetwood Mac. This is why I have always said there will be some sort of short lived official Farewell Tour. Mick will always need money and the Fleetwood Mac business may have one last gasp. Its why so many of us on this board are always frustrated at these tours. They are not about the music. We at the ledge are about the music. And before everyone agrees, let me shame you SYW haters. Post Dance Irving was making groups money making touring machines. Lindsey wanted to make an album that some say went too far in his direction. Yet it gets flamed when one of the few times it was about the music. Yet the audience did not respond which only reinforced the band to be only about business. |

I’m not even sure why this is a discussion. The fact that the remaining members of Fleetwood Mac will reunite for a very short series of farewell dates is a no brainer. This band is predictable. |

Stevie seems to be doing fine with her lame setlist solo shows. Lindsey enjoys a moderate amount of success with his own shows and has the creative freedom to go out and do whatever he wants including new songs that he isn’t ever going to have in a reformed Fleetwood Mac. The wild card is mick - he will always need money but will he be able to get Stevie on board with what will be an in depth rebuilding of the band including S & L reconciling and agreeing to work together. Do we really think Lindsey will just go along with whatever Stevie demands related to who is in the backing band etc? Will Stevie really sit through rehearsals where Lindsey dissects every note that is being played and challenges what songs should or shouldn’t go in the set? Can Mick make any of that happen? |

Coming soon... the thread about the new studio album.   |

But it won’t happen. More stadium shows for Stevie. She can bring Elton out of retirement or open for The Stones. |
What a sad ending. Clinging to shreds of a once great band. And for WHAT? To be embarrassed by your awful 80yo vocals? To play with karaoke tracks? To pretend to dance around the stage when you should be in a wheelchair? To stage fake love, for the sake of some idiot fans?
P.A.T.H.F.U.C.K.I.N.G.E.T.I.C. I'm embarrassed for them. Because it's over, and they can't accept it. |
