[2023-07-28] Stevie Nicks "Complete Studio Albums And Rarities"
[2023-07-28] Stevie Nicks "Complete Studio Albums And Rarities" 10CD box set (Atlantic)
http://www.imwan.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=118771 I know many will complain but as a long time fan of Stevie's music I'm excited to see Stevie's catalog getting some attention and for both "Real Tear" and "My Heart" officially on CD! |
I'd love to know about this but is that a safe link? It isn't https
Is this legitimate? I've never heard of imwan. I thought she was with RHINO now. |

If, indeed, these were really remastered, am I the only one who finds it odd they would stick everything in one not very exciting box set instead of going the route started with the BD and WH expanded sets, especially with RAL and TOSOTM? Seems like the latest is a looooong string of missed opportunities. I don't get it!

Like you, I would have preferred individual rereleases. Especially in the case of Rock a Little, which I believe the liner notes and lyrics were printed messed up and out of order; I’d have loved a corrected booklet. Amusing that Show Them the Way isn’t included. Not that I’m complaining. Very happy Mirror Mirror is. |

If Show Them the Way is not on there, then For What It's Worth (The Buffalo Springfield) surely is, right? |

Not to complain--especially since I've boycotted since 2018,-- but I agree that this is another missed opportunity. A compilation of unreleased live shows would be far more interesting than--whatever this is. I guess since she's sold her catalog, they can just churn out anything they want for measly cash grabs here and there.

I wonder why Show Me the Way wasn’t included? |

Stevie’s been on the road since May of 2022 and has not performed it |
I wish it would have been each individual remastered cd with rarities from Rock a Little to present like the first two albums but…whatever, I will still buy the Cd release for my collection.
|
The vinyl edition is crazy expensive, if Rhino wants people to drop £300 / $300 then they really should offer something like Blondie did with their 'Against The Odds' set, at least this had a lovely coffee table book included. Hopefully, the albums will be sold individually, I really don't need another copy of Bella Donna on vinyl, that album has been released so many times in lightly differing vinyl formats, would be nice to get Street Angel, Trouble In Shangri-La, and In Your Dreams on vinyl though, first time these have ever made their way to vinyl.
And why is the UK edition the same price as the US edition, seems Rhino must use the same currency calculators as Apple does on their iPhone prices!! |
Does this mean her last album will be 24 Karat Gold?

I mean....
Guess it's nice for the die hards who want vinyl. But I don't see anything shocking here. The rarities track list is disappointing to me. Would have rather heard a live show. But I get it, Rhino is just pumping out the catalog. Maybe I'll get it some day when it's all said and done with her career. |

Rarities is what us diehard fans want. Her live “best shows” have all been released. |
.......yawn.......
|
It's a major bummer not to get any outtakes or live recordings from RAL/OSOTM etc.
I bet that vinyl box set will be heavily discounted when sales slump. |
Another cash grab so grab your cash and buy all the limited editions.
I don't believe Real Tears and Mirror Mirror have appeared on CD or vinyl before but hardly worth buying it for that. WHAT'S INSIDE: BELLA DONNA (1981) THE WILD HEART (1983) ROCK A LITTLE (1985) THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR (1989) STREET ANGEL (1994) TROUBLE IN SHANGRI-LA (2001) IN YOUR DREAMS (2011) 24 KARAT GOLD: SONGS FROM THE VAULT (2014) STEVIE NICKS - RARITIES (2023) COMPLETE STUDIO ALBUMS & RARITIES combines all of Stevie Nicks’ solo studio albums in a new, career-spanning boxed set. It comes with eight albums: BELLA DONNA (1981), THE WILD HEART (1983), ROCK A LITTLE (1985), THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR (1989), STREET ANGEL (1994), TROUBLE IN SHANGRI-LA (2001), IN YOUR DREAMS (2011), and 24 KARAT GOLD: SONGS FROM THE VAULT (2014). The collection also features RARITIES, a new compilation of hard-to-find tracks only available with the set. Several albums were newly remastered from the analog masters for this release, including ROCK A LITTLE, THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR, STREET ANGEL, and TROUBLE IN SHANGRI-LA. COMPLETE STUDIO ALBUMS & RARITIES follows Nicks’ musical journey across four decades and features her Top 10 hits, “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” (with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), “Leather And Lace” (with Don Henley), “Stand Back,” and “Talk To Me.” Other essential hits include “Edge Of Seventeen,” “If Anyone Falls,” “I Can’t Wait,” and “Rooms On Fire.” RARITIES collects 23 of Nicks’ best non-album tracks, including numerous contributions to film and television soundtracks like “Blue Lamp” from Heavy Metal and “Free Fallin’” from Party of Five. Several B-sides are featured in the set, including “One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star,” the flipside to her 1985 hit, “Talk To Me.” A trio of songs originally released on Nicks’ 1991 hits collection TIMESPACE also appear, including “Love’s A Hard Game To Play.” RARITIES closes with Nicks’ most recent release, her 2022 cover of Buffalo Springfield’s classic “For What It’s Worth.” You can hear a sneak preview of "One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star" right here, right now. https://www.rhino.com/?eml=2023June1...ubid=118559702 |

So much unreleased stuff, such as those Dallas Austin tracks that will probably never see the light of day. I mean, how bad can those tracks be compared to Show Me the Way? I’m ok that Stevie doesn’t record anymore, but geez, why not just give people what they want- live stuff and unreleased tracks! |

It definitely was a lost opportunity to release some lost 80s tracks. Most she would not be proud of. But there can be a few good ones at least from the RAL era. Of all the outtakes and demos from the OSOTM era are nothing I would want. The best tracks definitely made the album. Songs like Dial The Number and pure klonopin hell with Kenny G on sax. |
What can be worse than the Tango outtakes from that box set? A release of earlier songs from the “3 Birds of Rhiannon” tracks etc.. would have made sense to be included with this release.
|
|
I also noticed there are so many songs missing here, which means this collection wouldn’t be a replacement for other collections. Songs like:
Whenever I Call You Friend Gold and Braid Magnet and Steel Needles and Pins Insider Gold Twisted Plus songs that have never appeared on one of her albums: Intuition Desiree The unedited Planets of the Universe The Gypsy remake for the series Beautiful People Beautiful Problems Borrowed You’re Not the One You Can’t Fix This Show Them the Way In other words, a whole other disc would be needed. Too bad this seems to be such a rush job. |

Oh look, ANOTHER version of Blue Lamp that isn't the incredible outtake.
Complete yawn and another missed opportunity. This might have been the chance to finally have the "alternate" Rock a Little with Running Through the Garden, Lady From the Mountains, etc (both INCREDIBLE outtakes that deserve a good quality release). And does anyone else thinks its odd that there is a 70s pic of Stevie as the cover but no music from that time period? Bleh. |
The design of the box is really half-baked. A design intern at Rhino would have done a better job. This makes me wonder if this is another Chris Nicks design.
Also, a big white box is playing with fire. It's going to show every scratch, dent, and scuff that could possibly happen in shipping/fulfillment. It's interesting that there has been a focus on utilizing early '75 photography, I wonder if theres a specific reason behind using photos from that time or if somebody on staff at Rhino is biased towards them. It makes me wonder if there is some sort of issue with Herbie's estate and getting licensing for any of his photos. It could also be camp Stevie avoiding any photography from the drug years. The vinyl box cost about the same price as two crappy arena nosebleed seats on her current tour. The vinyl box is a better deal, IMO. |

Back in the 1990's I gave all my Stevie solo CD's to a friend who lacked funds but loved her music. I figured at the time they would be easily replaced. They weren't. I shunned the 1999 multiple Stevie CD with the ink pen on the cover because of the same attitude most of you share and regretted not buying that many times over. I decided I am going to order this 10 CD collection because most of the songs say "2023 Remaster." An upgrade in sound is always welcome. Plus I am thrilled to have a CD copy of One More Big Time Rock & Roll Star, Real Tears & I think it said Desert Angel (I only looked at the list once). Plus to top it off I just remembered as I was typing this that I have a 100 dollar credit with Amazon for a returned gift item! So this is a total win win situation for me.

I'll still love her music, but her personality has lost a lot of charm for me. She's basically been in the bitter old maid era for quite some time. |

We got a 24 Karat Gold Tour that barely touched the album the tour was named for. Whereas the In Your Dreams Tour and Trouble In Shangri-La Tour had 5-8 new or newer (Sorcer and Love Is we’re newer) performed each night. Then after 24KG you had Stevie returning to the 2005-2010 style set list (which included a surprise like Love Is so that would be I Sing for the Things for this tour) |
She was a bitter old maid going into the 2014/2015 Fleetwood Mac tour. Christine's return put a big damper on her plans and proceeded to make it very clear to the band via her "alleged" two weeks album drama and Rolling Stone cover story.
Christine broke the 3 year rule..tsk tsk tsk. |

OSOTM is something I would not care for a deluxe version because of all the leftovers and demos I heard, they are horrible. Unlike RAL where the worst tracks made the album and some better ones were left off, OSOTM the best tracks are on the album and the horrible ones left off. She recorded RAL for 2 years. There is tons of material to go through. Much of it cokey screams but when you pan for gold you might just find a nugget here or there. Ok. Dream on silly dreamer ;) |

Then I remembered how bad the remastering was on Stevie’s 2019 box collection and the 50 YEARS DON’T STOP box. If the remastering isn’t as excellent as it was for THE VERY BEST OF FM (2002) with Daniel Hersch and especially Bill Inglot at the helm, don’t even bother. |

I think Enchanted is her best box set. Crystal Visions was a joke. 2019 picked the worst tracks from In Your Dreams and 24 Karat Gold. |
