Solo Show Setlist
For anyone wondering:
Outside The Rain/Dreams If Anyone Falls Stop Draggin' Fall From Grace For What It's Worth Gypsy Wild Heart / Bella Donna Soldier's Angel I Sing For The Things Gold Dust Woman Sara Edge Free Fallin' Rhiannon Landslide |
And also - the boots are not back. Looks like some sort of frankenbock situation but almost looks like tennis shoes. Hey, whatever makes her comfortable on stage I guess we can't complain.
Edit: Apparently in a recorded version of the show I heard on YouTube, she found out she broke one of her toes, so that's why. |
Thanks Krrrby! The big surprise here is that she added I Sing For the Things. This is a shock because it certainly is a deep cut. It’s also a surprise because of all the solo songs she could have chosen from, this has to be near the bottom of the request list of the fans. I mean, Stevie chose this song over If I Were You? Imperial Hotel? Talk to Me?
And she brought back Soldier’s Angel. I don’t even remember what album this song was on but whichever one it was, it was probably my least favorite song. So for her solo shows, she brought back Sara, Fall From Grace, and Soldier’s Angel, and added For What It’s Worth and I Sing For the Things. |
Here is her performance of I Sing For Things. She never knows her own stuff. She claims she did not know when she wrote it and says it was recorded in 1986. It was originally recorded during Wild Heart sessions which is a good version. The song was ruined on RAL and she even speaks ill of that recording. She says here that she does not remember when it was written and was recorded in 1986 when she was not in a good place. It was most likely recorded in 1984 or 1985 for RAL. It was recorded in 1982/1983 for Wild Heart. I always thought I Sing For Things would have made Wild Heart but the bouncy piano that Roy plays made it sound too much like Enchanted. Just my opinion.

Did she dedicate Landslide to Christine? |
Aw she sounds great on “I Sing for the Things!” I’m a huge fan of the Wild Heart arrangement of this song, which this version is clearly inspired by, even if it lacks some of the punch and variety. I wanted a break-down on the last verse and then a build up to a bigger vocal climax with the backup singers at the end (“Anythiiiiiiing….”) Still, good stuff!
|
I'm impressed! She does the song justice and it transfers to the stage extremely well, my ears hear bits of both versions in the arrangement. Kudos where it's due for her pulling out a Rock a Little song (although still, not a great album by any stretch) but a reimagining shows the tunes with better arrangements and vocals, were actually pretty good.

As for RAL being an un-Stevie like album… that’s probably why I do like it. |

RAL was just a party. She could care less about the sound or song writing OSOTM she had trouble writing and was too drugged to notice many things Street Angel was a noble effort but it was her rock bottom. I dont think she cares for the song Talk To Me. She did it on RAL as necessary promotion and dropped it on her next tour. She dug it out again for her promotion of Timespace since it was one of the songs on the album. Besides Street Angel which she was trying to be relevant again, has she ever performed it again? Her RAL staples in concert have always been No Spoken Word and HAEWAFY. I always saw the quality of I sing for the things. But always hated the song because of the cheezy electronic bass and other 80s gadgets. It needed to be acoustic or uptempo like on Wild Heart. She sounds so fragile on the RAL version and you can tell not much effort was put into the song. Having said all that, its still in the better half of songs on RAL (which is not saying much). |
I have to say, I listened to the whole show and I was rather impressed with her voice. She jokingly said to the audience that it's a different animal being outdoors vs. indoors, and she loves being indoors. I think it's true, a lot of times when she plays outdoors she's having audio issues or seems to can't hear herself. Her concert in LA with Billy Joel sounded bad to me in a lot of parts. This concert last night she sounded really great and I think not wearing the high heels and despite having a broken toe, she looked like she had some of her mojo back that has seemed a bit lackluster most of last year's concerts.

I haven’t seen any concert footage except for the duet with Billy Joel and Landslide. I guess I should at least watch I Sing For the Things before I criticize it, but it’s just such an odd choice. I don’t know, for some reason I’m perplexed as to how or why she chose that song over Sleeping Angel, If I Were You, Battle of the Dragon, heck even anything on the Wild Heart.
It’s like hearing she performed a deep cut FM song and finding out it was When I See You Again- not Angel, not That’s Alright, not Fireflies, not even Freedom, but… When I See You Again?!? And the thing is, that recording is so awful, if she did it live now it would probably sound 100% better, because it couldn’t be worse than the recorded version (no offense to the few fans who may think it’s her best song). Still, gotta admit one thing- she surprised me by adding that song. |

I don't think she's capable of doing the other songs that you mentioned because she will just be staring at the teleprompter the entire time like a karaoke concert, and she also can't hit a lot of those notes like she used to, unless she brings the key way down. Maybe she thinks they're too deep cuts for the audience anyway. |
I’m as judgmental of Stevie as anyone and in particular her stale ass set lists. But props to her literally debuting a revamped version of a song from a 37 year old album that has never been performed before. It would not be my choice at all but I like the idea of doing this. She has a lot of albums and songs that are forgotten to the masses.

Sorry but I just don't hear a whole ton of difference between this version and the RAL version... I was hoping for the bouncy piano from WH the way she was going on about it and how bad the recorded RAL version was.....but nope.
Interesting no gloves onstage... has she been gloveless for the whole tour so far?? I can't explain why, but I'm getting the feeling that she won't tour again after this.... she so wanted to tour during Covid time and was vocal about her resentment at losing those couple years... I feel like she's touring now because $$$ and also to somehow "go out on top".... But who knows. Maybe she'll want to headline one more time after this.... Her voice shows the effects of age but it also feels like the effects of not singing for several years. Like how Chris's voice diminished with age and lack of touring (albeit no live singing for way longer than Stevie). Given the state of Stevie's voice on this tour....I personally don't see her doing many more. Maybe that one more headliner and that's it..... just special appearances and such, like she's done with her recording.... |
I am surprised at the surprise of many that she did this song. Its a surprise in the sense of any new song in her set is a surprise. But I Sing For The Things is one of the tiny few songs on RAL that she wrote. Of course going over her albums this would be one to showcase since its never been done before and is from the RAL era. Her other songs she regularly performed live from RAL are also songs she wrote (No Spoken Word, HAEWAFY). Its also on 2 studio albums (RAL and Wild Heart reissue).
I applaud her for adding a deep track but when you think about it, it would not be a surprise. Why would she perform a deep track from an album she does not like and did not write? She would have to bring in drum machines for many other RAL tracks. |
I listened to a couple of songs, and I was very pleasantly surprised..
I thought she sounded better than of late. Bit more melodic. And I like the little black trainer things, they look far better than seeing her stumble around on her platforms. Why does she wear a uniform. Beyond me. One thing I do not like ? The hair, it’s dreadful. |

I also think this might be the last tour. Or at least the beginning of the end. I think it should be. How long can you keep going as you get older and without any new music. I'm so glad she did I Sing for the Things. Surprised us all.
I'd like to see her do a book. If not about her life than a book on her art or photographs, or her clothes and hair thru the years. I think she needs to keep busy to feel young, but I don't know how much more touring her voice and body can take. |

I don't see this tour as the end. I think it's the beginning of the end. I think I've summed up the rest of her career with these questions:
1. Will she create 1 maybe 2 more albums, one being something brand new and the other being another 24-karat-esque style album? 2. Will she announce a farewell tour and call it off as far as "touring" goes, but could still do shows like Billy Joel does at MSG but Stevie does it in Vegas or something until she's tired of it... 3. Will hell freeze over and she and LB make amends and do one more final fleetwood mac farewell and end it on a less than sour note? I understand that it's over-over with Chris being gone, but even if it's just for a handful of shows I think Stevie could swallow her ego and give it to the fans one last time so they can say goodbye somewhat properly. I think there's a 5% chance of this happening, btw. |

On one hand I was like omg wow look at her hair, she's doing something different for a change. Then the more I look at it, the more I think of Timespace Tour Stevie hair and the Street Angel Tour hair, and I'm like gurl, no. Stop it. |
2 shows postponed for Covid. SF and Sac….

1. No 2. Maybe... to the doing one last tour but don't see her doing a residency anywhere....but who knows 3. No. it'd be like admitting she was wrong, or like admitting she was petty and she will not do either. |

Secondly, THIS. Thirdly, THIS. She's got to be winding it up, and nobody buys records, and she's never been wrong. |
The sad thing is she could explore a new direction and make records that really serve her current vocal range really well, instead of hobbling through her pop catalog that is quickly doing her zero favors. I'm sure there are a line of producers who would love to make a record with her, if she was willing to go outside of her comfort zone.

I wonder why she chose I Sing for the Things, Fall From Grace, and Sara only.
Whole Lotta Trouble, No Spoken Word, and Juliet would be great replacements for Free Fallin', For What It's Worth, and Stop Draggin' My Heart Around. |

I just wish that guy wasn't, talking, so loud. |
Stevie didn't sing And So It Goes with Billy in Nashville. Sheryl Crow sang Landslide with her. After Landslide Stevie said Sheryl was very close to becoming the only female other than Christine and Stevie to join "one of the most famous bands in the world" and thanked her for almost doing that.
In my mind they would not have made new music with Sheryl had she been permitted to join. It would have been Sheryl just singing Christine's songs in Fleetwood Mac. |

Wait! In terms of studio albums, not tours, Time got two female singers. So Bekka is the Invisible Woman to Stevie? |
